antibiotics

Avatar n tn I had a sore throat in April, and the doctor gave me amoxicillin believing i had strept throat, without swabbing. The antibiotics didn't work until day 7 out of 10, and a few days after i finished the antibitocs it came back. A different doctor prescribed me cefaclor which worked after using it for 1 day. When I finished the prescription, a day after i had a sore throat.
Avatar f tn I Messed Up On My Last Post Lol But I Just Really Wanna Know How Long Does Tonsillitis Last ? I’ve Been On Antibiotics For 5 Days Now &&’ I Feel Great !! I Just Wanted To Know How Long Do It Last ?
Avatar n tn You need other antibiotics depending on what kind of strain you have you need medical attention. No money go to clinic or hosp.
Avatar m tn I had to take a seat i was so blown away. That indication meant to me that I was to suffer with this pain forever. I know for a fact that this was originally caused by an std but they detect nothing. As I sit and type this my legs burn, testicles burn (especially when sitting) and I feel so far away from normal. Tired, depressed (i'm taking stuff for that..celexa).
Avatar f tn I never needed a test for the doc to know it was tonsillitis, they could tell by how it presented. But you know, if you do have to wait for test results, it is what it is.
Avatar f tn I would give the antibiotics some time to work, because tonsillitis is pretty easy to identify, and I'd be surprised if the doctor got this wrong. It's very common, and your doctor has probably seen it 1000 times. If it's not better by Monday, follow up with your doctor and ask for a throat swab for herpes and strep. It is very unlikely that you got anything from giving oral sex to a female.
Avatar m tn At the beginning of April (2016) I started feeling unwell so I went to the doctors on the 10th of April and was diagnosed with tonsillitis. I was treated with antibiotics and it went away. I was going through a very stressful period in my life and was smoking (never smoked in my life before) and drinking heavily which started around January so I thought this may have caused the tonsillitis. In May I got a bad urine infection and it turned out my ex had given my chlamydia.
Avatar f tn That's a long time for a sore throat and fever. Best not to ignore that and am glad you are going to the doctor. I'd try to get in as promptly as you can. You can always attach a photo to your profile page under photos. :>)) I agree that this could be strep. Sore throat that persists often is. This article goes through how to tell what kind of sore throat it is https://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/sore-throat-cold-strep-throat-tonsillitis#1.
Avatar m tn Send blood or throat swab for culture and antibiotic sensitivity. Need to do antiseptic mouth gargle to take care of source of infection. There are other causes needed to be ruled out are laryngo esophageal reflux, irritative pharyngitis (due to dryness of throat), certain chemical exposure, other source of infection etc... If chronic tonsillitis or hyperplastic tonsil then tonsillectomy will help. Acid reflux needs a treatment with antacids and proton pump inhibitors.
Avatar f tn Each time iv just been given more antibiotics for tonsillitis none of which seems to help. I have reffered to the hospital to have my tonsilis taken. However when i went to the doctor last week he suggested that when i saw the consultant at the hispital they should consider throat cancer, this worrys me as i am 18, however i did used to smoke heavily and only recently quit and i am a student so i do drink alot. The doctor suggesting cancer has really worried me, what do people think?
Avatar f tn You post a lot about your throat issues. Have you ever seen a doctor for them? You get these symptoms enough that it's time to be evaluated for them. Even if it is allergies, there are medications you can take that can help.
Avatar f tn bacteria (streptococcus). Continuing, undiagnosed, or re-occurring infections can lead to chronic tonsillitis which will take longer to heal .Tonsil stones, are formed when trapped debris hardens, or calcifies. This tends to occur most often in people who suffer from chronic inflammation in their tonsils or repeated bouts of tonsillitis. Ensure sufficient intake of zinc,B complex vitamins and vitamin C.It is best to see an ENT specialist and discuss your queries. Hope it helps.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much for your response! Since writing this I have had on an off white spots but the tonsillitis has not returned. However my throat hasn't felt the same since, more often than not it feels very dry and I sometimes get some shooting pains. (They don't last very long) I feel a little bit run down and get very mild earache most days! Considering how I was for a month, this is absolutely nothing in comparison and doesn't seem bad enough to contact the GP!
Avatar f tn I have had several blood work done for this and that recently. Would if I had a trace of cancer it would show up, right?? Like some kind of abnormality would show?? The doctor who said I need them removed said that the blood work was good, nothing more than tonsillitis. But why have they been swollen SO LONG?? I am 20 years old. I use to have strep very bad has a child. But I really never had trouble from my tonsils til now. I live on a dirt road.
Avatar m tn I had an extreme (Unprotected virginal sex with infected partner)exposure about 12 weeks ago, immediately went on nPEP within 24 hours, finished my nPEP more than 6 weeks ago,i last tested using antibody test at juss more than 10 weeks from exposure and just more than 4 weeks after last dose of nPEP and was negative( i prolonged my nPEP,took it for 6 weeks unsteady of 4 week out of ignorance thinking it might help) my problem is since week 4 after exposure i have been having a mild sore throat,
Avatar n tn ve also been given a course of antibiotics - erythromycin 250mg four times a day for seven days - for tonsillitis. Only one tonsil was slightly swollen and red over a week, a couple of bits of puss, no pain and no fever - the doctor has not performed a swab test. I have read that the side-effects of this drug are commonly nausea and vomiting and as someone who has a morbid fear of vomiting, I am really reluctant to take it.
Avatar n tn you have to be very sure there is an actual infection, than the culture needs to show what antib will work for that strain. and how long it will take to kill it, if you don't use a strong enough dose or not for a long enough time, the infection will return with a vengeance and become a super bug that most antibiotics won't cure..this is than 'antibiotic resistant' Are you not able to take this cat to a Vet and have the culture done?
Avatar f tn I have had the same boyfriend for 3 years and have been performing oral sex on him for most of that time (he loves it) and haven't had issues until the last 6 months. I've gotten tonsillitis 3 times this year, once in January, again in late April, and now again at the end of May. Two out of these three times have happened the day after performing oral sex (January and May occurrences). He normally finishes in my mouth and I swallow it.
Avatar m tn Hi! Thank you for responding, sorry if the post was confusing. I went to my doctor into the second week of my sore throat, she said it looked like tonsillitis so she did a swab and it came back negative for any bacterial infections. I have been trying all the home remedies for a month, since I fist started feeling my sore throat like salt water, tea, honey, ginger, etc. I haven't noticed an improvement but I am still continuing to use them.
Avatar f tn Does strep tonsillitis take so long to clear??
2102364 tn?1334181277 Oops wanted to add you to my watch list to hear how all goes for you and I forgot to put a check mark in the box--also apologies for such a lengthy post above--lol
Avatar m tn Yes you can still feel pain and some slight symptoms even after all seven days, the antibiotic continues to work for a day or so after antibiotics are finished. However if it continues for more than 48 hours after finishing the medicine you should go back to doctor....or if it gets worse. The other thing is you may have a strain that is resistant to amoxicillin and may need to get a different antibiotic altogether. Are you getting better at all? Gargle with warm salt water.
