My husband broke three ribs in Feb. & has been on delodid (sp?), then Percocet, now Oxycodone. He quit cold turkey two days ago & is going through pure hell! How long will these symptons persist? We called the pain management Dr. today & he suggest taking another oxy & weaning his way off. He is afraid to take another pill...thank GOD! He want off but is feeling extremely depressed...aching all over, chills, etc. Any help or suggestion on what to do is greatly appreciated!
ive read on here that Neurontin 300 mg works for withdrawals does anyone know how many a day I need to take to releave withdrawal pain and sickness to be able to stop taking oxy?? plus how many days does it take to be on the down side of the withdrawal from oxy??
Ok, I am just into day 2 of quitting ocycodone cold turkey. My doctor decided this was the best way to do it as opposed to weaning. I have to say he was right. this is hell. He pout me on 30mg of cymbalta to help ease the anxiety which seems to be helping however tyhe nausea is really bad. I cant eat, sleep or really do much of anything.
This is what makes me crave the pill not the high but quashing this type of w/d that I experience. I absoltely need to know about how long I can expect to feel depressed. I absolutely will not take anti depressants, they make me feel so much worse. I have thougt about tapering off slowly as I arge that I got this way slowly, but I am afraid that is just an excuse to keep using a bit. I am a mother and I feel like I am not being a very good one right now.
Today (3/4/08) makes day 5. How long does this goes on? Managed to sleep one night. Seems night is the worst time for me. That is when I would wake up every 2 hours and take 2 until about 6:00 am. My arms are crazy. No sweating today. Just sore arms. After reading the topics here, I am hoping I don't have long to go. I keep wanting to go and see the doc, but my husband won't allow me to. Probably just subconscious illy want to get more drugs.
That depends on how long you used for i belive.Usualy for me,and believe me i can take enuff to kill a person,but at the same time just a few does the trick.
But day 5 is key,that's when u want to eat,normal bowel movements.Sleep starts coming back.
I use trazedone to help sleep,Anxiety isn't too bad.Read up on PAWS tho so u know what to expect,it can come back down the road,it is the price we pay.
But don't fear support is right here.Nutrition plays a big part.GOOD food.

It does sound like it could be withdraw symptoms. Usually withdraw last about 7 days. The worst days are days 3-4. Just let him know that things will get better. Luckily he was not on the meds for very long so his withdraw will not be as severe as other peoples on here. He should be fine in no time.
I need some guidance. I've always been a responsible person with a good job and good morals. A few years ago my boyfriend was using pain pills regularly. If I had a bad migraine or something he would give me one. I never thought I was in danger of addiction. I've never had an addictive personality. Well I began to use recreationally occasionally. Like take one every couple months at an event or something like that.
On 10/13, I had total knee replacement. They put me on lots of pain meds including morphine, percocet and oxycontin. I am home and have to go to PT twice weekly which is quite painful. I went to my surgeon on 11/2 and he said to wean off of oxycontin and oxycodone. He didn't explain how to go about that. My husband cut the oxycontin in half and I took that once at night and once in the morning for 3 days.
So, now she is off the butalbital - cold turkey and says the withdrawal is hell. Does anyone know how long the withdrawal lasts? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. I'm determined to try . It's actually oxycodone I take, not hydrocodone. Does that make a diff when weaning. I am just going to start by cutting down the amount per dose and the frequency of doses. Yesterday I did 5 doses at 2 tabs each. I usually take 6 or 7 doses at 2 1/2- 3 pills at at a time. At least it's a start. Idk how I will do when it really goes down but I got to try. I have 2 kids and a husband I love so much.
Does anyone know how long (like consecutive days or weeks) it takes to get physically addicted to oxycodone? I know it depends on the dosage per day, but assume one to two are consumed per day. This medication is 30mg tablets. My friend asked me this because he recently started using, and wanted to know before he goes off the deep end. Thanks for all of your help and support guys. This website gave me hope and reassurance that I am not the only one out there with issues.
