Long acting meds. are addicting, but probably less than the so-called "break through" pain meds. like Vic's and Perc's etc. because they don't give you the buzz. i did take the extended release morphine for a very short time and it was fantastic 1 pill a day and felt like my spine was numb--not my brain. The name Morphine scares me, and I wont take it....but, it is effective. Don't know about Avinza, but as long as you take it like your suppose to.......
My third visit to PM Dr is in two weeks and I am not getting any relief. I take my medicine as prescribed. I went from 10/325 oxycodone 4x a day to 30mg avinza, and now I am taking 45mg avinza still with no relief. My pain remains between 5-8 with 9 most evenings. I dont want to be labeled by telling my doc I am not getting any relief.
I am looking for suggestions.
It is generally used for moderate pain and, so I have heard, and it works well for lower back pain. That may be a good thing for him but if it does not work, more will put him back to square one.
I don't know if your friend is seeing a pm doctor but that may be the way to go.
You didn't mention whether or not he is an addict and has been abusing his medication. If so, then Avinza is not for him.
I was recently diagnosed with dermatitis by a local dermatologist and he prescribed me a topical medication called "Elidel", since he didn't think steroid creams were appropriate for the area of body that I am treating which has thin skin. Anyways, I have been using the Elidel for about 10 days now, and have NOT seen any noticable difference in my skin condition.

I got myself off of the Diluadid and am currently trying to get off of the Avinza. I went from 90 mg to 60 mg to now 30 mg then 10 mg to 5 mg of Percocet. So my goal is to be off of the 30 mg Avinza and 5 mg Percocet by the end of the year. I looked at a Detox center but it was just for illegal drugs and people who seek out drugs where as my legal drugs were brought to me by doctors. My questions are: How did you stop the Avinza because I can't do cold turkey and I am just miserable.
It takes 4-6 weeks for a med change to reach full potential in your blood, then after that, it can take another few weeks or even a couple months for your body to get well.
While I don't condone sassiness and talking teenagers talking back to their parents, ask your mom to be patient and understand that the thyroid controls quite a few body processes, so without it, your entire body has to readjust and get used to the medication.
