Common Questions and Answers about How long does a angiogram procedure take

angiogram

Avatar n tn Based upon the known and published inaccuracies of stress tests, a cardiologist would never perform a cardiac catheterization on a person that does not have any symptoms of poor coronary artery flow, unless s/he suspects some type of congenital abnormality of the arrangement of your coronary arteries, that have been documented in the past, and s/he is aware of, whether you have diabetes or not.
Avatar m tn t have to do it again for a long, long time.
Avatar f tn I have just been scheduled for an angiogram and I'm scared to no end I have a 3 year old son I love to death same as my soon to be wife. I'm so scared something will go wrong during the surgery how coming are complications? Also my ej is 73 is this bad?
Avatar n tn An angiogram is a very important diagnostic procedure to determine if there are any problems with blood vessels in the retina. Time is of the essence for some problems that may be treatable in the early stages - wait too long and your vision can be permanently altered if it isn't already.
Avatar f tn Yes there is a possibility that harm will come to your baby. To suggest such a procedure while so early in pregnancy must be because they feel you are at great risk with your heart. I would ask about the risks, and I assume they KNOW you are pregnant? In most cases angiography will be refused if you are pregnant. I believe the chemicals used pass through the placenta, which means they will enter your child and possibly cause deformities.
Avatar f tn You do want someone who doest the procedure frequently in a facility that does them frequently. Mine were done at Columbia Presbyterian in NYC. My first was a 55. Worry is stress.
Avatar n tn I'm having a CT angiogram Thursday. It avoids an interventional procedure that has some risk. X-ray exposture presents some risk for cancer, but my non-interventional cardiologist feels a CT angiogram is sufficient and I'm not disputing his recommendation. I had a cath angiogram and a stent 4 years ago, there was no problem as I was in a hospital setting for 3-4 days. However, some people experience a bleeding problem at the site of the cath insertion and pain that lasts several days.
Avatar m tn My doctor is obviously recommending an angiogram to rule out/in a blockage, but I just cannot understand how this is possible. I'm terrified of the angiogram and its risks, and the possibility of a stent just doesn't compute (my father was 70 when he got his stent, how am I possibly getting one at 39?!) Part of me wants it to be a blockage so that I will finally have a definitive diagnosis. If it's not a blockage, then what could this be?
Avatar n tn When I feel the discomfort and I stop and rest, it takes 2 to 3 minutes and the discomfort will go away.
Avatar m tn Thanks alot for all the reassuring words. It does help. Does anyone know how long a stent will last. Are there any stats. What if you do everything right , take the pills, exercise, proper diet. How long could it last. Do you know anyone who has had one for a long time with no issues?
Avatar n tn A CT angiogram is more sensitive than a straight forward angiogram. They both rely on a radioactive substance being injected into your blood stream and it's this which the scanners pick up. If a CT angiogram doesn't reveal a vessel, then no way will an angiogram. I had a vein that was closed after a bypass procedure and they looked for 30 minutes in a standard angiogram procedure to try and find it.
776302 tn?1241091853 I had a 2 hour procedure the other day and a LOT of contrast. As soon as the procedure was over, I was given 2 cups of water to gulp down, even though I felt nauseous. I was then supervised to drink 3 litres of water in 2 hours which certainly flushed me out. I was then given a healthy lunch and the nausea disappeared. Most people suffer dizziness and sickness because they don't drink lots of fluids to aid removal from the body.
Avatar f tn That said, it could also be a reaction to nitro meds that sometimes follow a heart procedure, they can cause bad headaches, especially if one sips a bit of wine with the pill. I've been there and done that, frankly. Let us know.
Avatar n tn What are the risk 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours after the procedure, meaning how long before you know you are out of the risk zone? 5. Is there any other testing that comes close to this one or is this the best one? 6. What are the odds of a healthy woman my age having any blockages? Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated... Sorry for the many questions just seems like a great place to get information.
Avatar n tn An angiogram can be performed with a cath (intervention with a probe through the leg vessel to the heart), or ct scan (best is a 128 slice) that views the blood flow (dye has been injected) through the coronary arteries. There isn't a high risk with a cath, and it is not painful, but have an understanding with the doctor whether or not your father wants a stent implant if there is some blockage, and whether the stent(s) are drug coated or not (obtain an opinon what the doctor prefers).
Avatar n tn If it can ease your mind a bit, though I have never had an angiogram myself it sounds like the procedure is a lot like an ablation where they simply insert a catheter through an artery in your groin to study the arteries leading to your heart. I had the ablation done and it really was not a big deal at all. You hardly feel anything and is not nearly as tough to recover from than surgery would be.
Avatar n tn nuclear stress test 1 week ago showed restricted blood flow. Angiogram done. One of the grafts has backed up blood which is restricting flow. Doc said may get better with exercise or stent the original blocked artery which is a 5 yr old stent on right side that is 90% blocked. Unsure what to do grafts on left side are doing great. What do u think Bill S.
Avatar m tn Immediately following an angiogram subsequent to a minor heart attack I developed a severe cough which at times produced a dense grayish mucous/phlegm. Does anybody know what caused it? Could it be side effect of one of the meds prescribed post procedure?
Avatar m tn I am 37, how long can a person live with Angina? I was negative on the exercise stress test. But I have off and on chest pain usually due to stress.
Avatar n tn An angiogram is a procedure that images a contrast agent that passes through the vessels during rest and then with exertion to observe if there is any obstruction. There shouldn't be any risk with a CT scan, and if the procedure is with a cath the risk may be a problem at the entery site (groan) as a diabetic may have some difficuty with the healing process other risks are minimal i.e. rupture, uncontrolled bleeding, etc. Doctors are quickly available if there is a problem.
Avatar m tn Hello~I would certainly discuss this pain with your doctor, how long ago did you have this procedure? Perhaps it take awhile for the pain to subside.
