How long do risperdal side effects last

Common Questions and Answers about How long do risperdal side effects last

Avatar m tn There was one side effect that I read that sort of concerned me aside from the movement side effects. Does the inability to move the eyes always go away or can it be permanent? How long does it take for it to go away if it occurs?
Avatar f tn Some of the medication prescribed for autism/ADHD can have permanent effects such as tics etc. Also, you don't have a diagnosis yet, so how do they know what to prescribe? I know other parents who have had hormes prescribed to help with sleep.
559509 tn?1216184046 At the time in which she was beginning the Risperdal she had been off her bipolar meds for sometime. Not sure how long she had used it or any side effects which may have occurred (lost touch) She is currently just using lithium and doing well. I didn't see any weight gain side effects when I googled it, and I currently work with many patients who use it and haven't seen it there either. Good luck to you.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if anybody knows how long it will take for Risperdal to get out of my system. My psychiatrist prescribed it to me last week as a supplement to the Prozac I have been on for about 3 weeks now. Both to treat GAD. I was kind of getting an obsessed about dying thing which is why she prescribed the stop the obsessive thoughts. I was VERY reluctant to use any medication...I had been prescribed Paxil about a month and a half ago and I had a horrible reaction to it.
Avatar n tn my 8 year old son has PDD/NOS and has just finished being weaned off of risperdal. He was having side effects of facial tics and body twitching. Does anyone know how long the "detox" period takes. He is very angry right now and I am hoping he bounces back. I do not want to put him back on anything just yet. any suggestions on the waiting period length?
Avatar n tn I think he may be having withdrawls from the risperdal. Last night he could not stop throwing up and his body temp kept going down. I took him to the ER and they couldn't find anything wrong with him. Could it be that he is having withdrawls from the risperdal and what should I do since it's been 5days now since he's had any at all? Will it go away? Poor baby.....
Avatar n tn When I am, that is when I have bizarre thoughts and paranoia. I still just stay on Risperdal and it doesn't last long. See if you can help him eliminate some of the stress in his life. Couldn't hurt.
898530 tn?1268622382 The Neurologist just started her on Risperdal Tabs 0.5mg but after reading the possible side affects and all the other information, I am a bit worried. Has your child taken this drug and improved or benefited from it? I'd love for you to share your experiences and story with me if possible. Hoping this will really work but I am a bit anxious. Hope to hear from you! Take Care, Kimmys Mom.
2010625 tn?1329375656 I have tried several different antipsychotics and keep getting bad side effects with them that have been so bad I can't take them. I have been on seroquel, risperdal, geodon, abilify, and currently on latuda. On the latuda if I take more than 40mgs I get akathisia real bad, but on the 40mgs I start rapid cycling. My doc said I could try saphris, but I am sick of trying these antipsychotics. He said then the next option would be to try lithium. I am currently on lamictal 200mgs, latuda 40mgs.
Avatar f tn Such as side effects or positive effects. Also, if you have tapered off, how long did the withdrawals (and what were they) from tapering?
1798419 tn?1315814027 I'm experiencing brain wobbles, fuzzy sounds in my ears, find it hard to sleep, and yesterday uncontrollable crying for no reason, feelings of utter rage, and suicidal thoughts. Im feeling a little brighter today (so far). How long do the side effect last?? And is weight gain a common side effect? My doctor swore black and blue that she had never come across a person who gained weight, and that it was more common to loose it on effexor.
Avatar n tn I also have had chronic nausea and frequent vomiting since my gastric bypass in January of 2005 but the nausea is even worse than it was and I know this is from the Effexor-XR being lowered. I am just wondering how long this horrible nausea will last (different than the nausea) I usually experience. I am also suffering from horrible headaches.
Avatar m tn hi. i just stopped taking risperdal after being on it over 1.5 years last week because of the side effects. it was supposed to be helping with the ptsd related symptoms but found it was making them worse. i had a really bad night with it last week and decided i'd had enough. by all means get off of it if it doesn't seem to be helping---just let your doctor know first.
Avatar f tn I don't think a child that young should be taken any medicines. the side effects are not worth the risk . most doctors don't diagnose until after, they are at least 5 years old or evens 6. I would let the doctors know that you really don't want your child on medicines. can you tell us more about how your son's days and night are like? like dose he sleep well at night, and dose he sleep during the day? and have you tried vitamins to try and help him?
Avatar n tn Even tho' I kinda doubt it (cause they're not the usual side effects) to rule it out I'm getting off. Problem is it really works for me! I'm bummed to have to get off, but my question is this -- how long do you have to taper before you can just quit? I've been tapering the last couple weeks. I'm down to a pretty low dose, so when do you just quit? Anyone have suggestions?
Avatar f tn This includes prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal products. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor. Side Effects While Seroquel is not considered addictive, it does come with some inherent risks, much like any other prescription medication. Some of the most common side effects are fairly minor in nature, including headaches, dizziness, drowsiness or fatigue, stomachache or abdominal pain, congestion and weight gain.
Avatar n tn Its just most of the medications out in the next few years (including one potential this year) are clinically similar to Abilify so they have the same effects of akathesia and long term effects of tardive dykinesia and diabetes (less of a risk than others but still on the warning label, someone I knew got it).
Avatar f tn I have been taking Seroquel for a long time. I was trying to switch over to Risperdal to get up to 6mg. so that I could receive the injectible form of it because I am too dissociative with so much stress in my life and suffering from severe depression for so long...I am bipolar type mixed...this is that I become manic and depressed at the same time, which is not something I can ever wrap my mind around.
865817 tn?1255285681 The elementary years are where kids learn all of the basic skills they will need later on in school and in life. How well do you think that child would do in the 6th grade if they were reading at a 2nd grade level and didn't know their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, much less formulas and writing methods and scientific method?
606584 tn?1224853036 Lithium does not cause cognitive blunting (its a non psychoactive drug) and yes it has a long list of side effects - its been around since 1849 and in use for mental illness treatment since 1949 but when you did into the side effects the incidence of severe ones is very small - the most common side effects for lithium are bringing on incipient thyroid problems, dry mouth, increased thirst and muscle tremors.
Avatar n tn Very few meds work first time for people, often maybe a dozen are tried before any help is achieved, . Side effects of many meds are worse than anything already happening. How will a 4 year old explain that to you and will you understand? Ask people here if they have trouble describing side effects. Ask., , Most meds have been released and pronounced "safe" simply because they have passed clinical trials set by government.
Avatar m tn I just wanted to get feedback on the best long-term SSRI-type drugs (Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa, etc.) you all might have tried. Do they ever work at all? I suffer from stress-related generalized anxiety and occasional panic attacks. This has also, I believe, helped to increase my typical blood pressure readings to above normal (very healthy 28-year-old, otherwise. I work out, am at healthy weight, etc.).
Avatar f tn now, i have this underlying fear that he'll leave me and it seems like i'm on thin ice--whenever i become this way, it's an obsession, an all encompassing thought--about him leaving me, but also about how everyone always has and that this is how i'm destined to live. the other side is an extreme apathy. but i'd simply like to enjoy things and people without living with this fear of abandonment.
Avatar n tn I think the problem is more the Risperdal then the Concerta. Side effects listed for Risperdal include - Aggressive behavior, agitation, anxiety, stiffness or weakness of the arms or legs, tic-like or twitching movements, trembling and shaking of the fingers and hands, trouble sleeping, and twisting body movements. The site said to, "Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking risperidone:" talking about those mentioned above.
Avatar f tn This is more of a question than a can any doctor or patient keep track of what side effects are being caused by what, what new side effects are being intorduced by adding another drug to counteract the problems of the first, what's helping what, and what are the short and long term effects of having a slew of substances in the body?
439168 tn?1307935340 How come the meds would work somewhat, great and then not so great? Why are those adverse effects or side effects would happen. How come other people have it so easy? I knew this doctor was very competent. His specialty was in treating mood disorders. He was really easy for me to approach and he paid attention. Don't compare yourself to others. Everyone is different, and things can change ith the med requirements.Everyone reacts different to meds and med combos. I can't take Lamictal.
Avatar n tn Javitt, glycine) that will promote a fuller recovery and have less long term side effects, I should know. As I was recovering I thought the local cemetary had "evil spirits" and saw hallucinations of dead people and when the treatment began to work it stopped. I don't believe it anymore. And currently available antipsychotics should work as well. Please don't let her think any of what she's experiencing is real. It would only hurt her recovery.
607502 tn?1288251140 After spending about 6 weeks in hospital last year I was discharged on Seroquel (600mg) and my good old Lithium. I have a pretty complete memory hole for 7 days where I remember nothing - According to witnesses I was full tilt manic, paranoid and delusional. It now appears I was sicker than we knew, ive earned a new diagnosis in BP1 and a new chapter has started. I was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2 late last year.
Avatar m tn I got side effects(involuntary movements) so had to quit.My doc will be back 4 days from now.Any suggestions.
Avatar n tn Yes I'll get a second opinion, but till then do you know how long will it take to get addicted on risperdal? cause I don't want to.
