My doctor gave me an dna pcr test along with an hiv1 direct p24 with elisa. My pcr came back negative in 7 days but now its after 8 days and I haven't got the results from the other one. I'm a little worried that the longer it takes is not a good sign. What is the average time for this test?

hiv tests are usually run in batches. this is why it can "sometimes" take up to a week or two to get your results.
getting it done early really doesnt have anything to do with it...

About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though.
I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).
Thanks for the answer Dave. Couple of follow up questions. Do you know if the specific test I took was an Elisa test I couldn't tell because it said ARUP in the title and I've never heard of that before.
I remember reading an old post from grace that asked someone if they ever had cold sores and the person said no and she responded saying that if they never had cold sores and had contracted HSV-2 they would probably be showing the typical herpes blisters.
Your tests and the protocol used are reliable, regardless of where you live. Your non-reactive results at 84 days are conclusive.
I cannot speak to the qualifications of the labs technicians, but if this was a private lab, I feel you can rest assured they are professionals.
If you are still anxious I can only advise you to find another lab and test again. But at some point you're going to have to trust the results. I say you should do that now.
Hello, Grace. I've had contradictory test results for HSV 2 and I was hoping you could shed some light on it. I went to the doctor in February for a routine check up and asked for a STD screening as I do every year. I tested negative for HSV 1 and positive for HSV 2. I tested negative a year prior, but I've had three partners since then. One person tested negative, one chose not to get tested, and the third was not given a type-specific test and tested positive.
They are expensive, yield 4-6% false positives and take a long time to run and get the results. They are only used in HIV diagnosis as a last resort where other results are disparate. Only your testing clinic would order these if results if repeatedly positive on screening tests and repeatedly indeterminate on confirmatory tests (WB). Best not to go ahead and get these without your healthcare provider/s saying so as the stress of a false positive wouldn't be in your best interests.
If you are located in the US. You can reset assured that any HIV test you take are FDA approved. At 3 months it doesn't matter what generation ELISA test you take it will be conclusive.

I happened to get very stupid 7 weeks ago and received unprotected oral sex from a prostitute in NYC. She assured me she was negative. About 20 days after this exposure I started to get a little cold. Went to my doctor's office on day 30 and had a complete blood test including all stds (HIV included). All stds were negative, but the number of white blood cells was increased, showing some kind of infection.
Please tell me rapid test after 8 months from ur last risk is enough to have an 100% accurate result or how accurate are hiv rapid testing people here are talked about ELISA test but no information are available on rapid testing coz what upto my knowledge is rapid test take 15 min. to get the result and ELISA test give result in 5 days atleast i ment to say that long period result means more accurate test rather then test conducted in 15 or 20 minuts.
