1179632 tn?1263935878 I was diagnosed with pcos 6 months ago and i am on 500 mg metformin 2x daily... I just started my period after taking metformin alone for 12 days... i had been charting my b.b.t. for those twelve days and today i finally started bleeding! so my question is... do you have to ovulate to have a "normal" period? as you stated in the answer to sarar78 (Metformin will not make you ovulate. In time it will help you to have normal cycles.
1627189 tn?1300655664 ve had this since i was 16 im now 24. Almost at the end of Febuary i started taking Metformin. But im not sure how long i should wait to take a pregnancy test. I've read alot of stories about people getting pregnant just by metformin. I was even told by a family friend not to stop taking the metformin she is also a nurse. I have been pregnant once before and miscarried at 8 weeks. Someone please help. I don't know how long i should wait.
Avatar f tn if you ovulate you have every chance of getting pregnant..hope clomid works for you!
Avatar f tn your doctor might be waiting (on hopes the metformin helps, and possibly brings on ovulation) to give you Clomid to help you ovulate. How long have you been TTC a baby? Most doctors wait 6 months to a year depending on your health issues before giving you any fertility treatments or medications.
Avatar n tn how long have you been on those medications and did you get pregnant? bcuz i am on the same thing, i had the same problem. They checked my blood and I am resistant to insulin and have to much testisterome hormones. I have been on both clomid and metformin for 2 months.
Avatar f tn I am not sure of the risks for taking it for you i never had any problems and as far as i am aware no risks for baby. Umm... Doc said that you ovulate around 6-8 days of taking them so to bed on days 11 through to 15. After that just a waiting game. Good Luck. After i m/c i went on and did 5 more cycles with no luck. If you do not ovulate with the first month of taking them they just increase your dose for the next month until they can get you to ovulate.
788199 tn?1236611657 Metformin is not meant to help you ovulate. If your not getting a period, your doctor would have to give you something like Provera to jump start it, and then maybe something like Clomid to help induce ovulation. I don't know why everyone thinks metformin will make you ovulate, because it doesn't. It will help with weight loss, if you start dieting, but other then that it wont help you ovulate. Metformin is known to be given to women who have pcos.
1360237 tn?1351816181 I plan on talking to my doctor about taking clomid bc it does help you ovulate but make sure your doctor monitor you b/c you dont want to develop cysts on your ovaries.
801413 tn?1333539276 Do you know if you are ovulating? Its good your cycles seem regular for you. If your not ovulating you may need to take Metformin and Clomid or Fermera. I haven't read too much about just conceiving on metformin (unless your ovulating correctly).
Avatar n tn If you do not ovulate regularly, and after you start to take metformin it helps you to ovulate, the it will help you to get pregnant since it's main reproductive benefit is to aid women who do not ovulate regularly to ovulate. If you are already ovulating regularly and are having regular periods, then metformin will not help you to get pregnant. Of course, if you need metformin for other reasons, such as diabetes, then you should take it regardless.
Avatar n tn I think the first thing to try is clomid (or maybe femara), since it's just a pill you take every day for five days in the beginning of your cycle. Your doctor will probably start you off on the lowest dose, and then monitor you to make sure you ovulate. If you don't ovulate on the lower dose, he or she will probably give you a higher dose.
1559168 tn?1294731785 And Higgins is right most doctors use clomid with metformin however clomid is not a good drug for women with PCOS, it causes cysts (and increases your chances for breast cancer) and current research shows that metformin alone is more effective at getting you to ovulate than the combo of drugs. I also have PCOS, we tried for 3.5 years so needless to say I've done a lot of research. You will get pregnant it just might take a little longer (not 3 years I had over 100 cysts).
Avatar m tn I am just curious as to how long after stopping birth control do young women(women in general) start to ovulate? I am curious because she is on a trip and might stop taking them and/or take them very irregularly and stop altogether when she comes back in a couple weeks. If she were to stop let's say 5 days before she were to come back home, how long after that would she be able to get pregnant? I have heard mixed things pertaining to this matter; (weeks, months, years in older women etc.
Avatar f tn Is that somewhat a good sign? And could metformin alone possibly help me ovulate? Thank you all for taking the time to read this and I would appreciate any advice and support from others who also have PCOS. Id also like to hear your story so please share your story.
393893 tn?1283551230 I also have PCOS so I know where you are coming from. As long as you are taking other fertility drugs, you should still O. I am on a natural cycle after m/c and still waiting to O at CD 18 - kinda wishing I had been taking the metformin again because it did make me O. See i your doc can give you something else. Good luk sweetie!
1360237 tn?1351816181 and How many people started to on 150mg.
400358 tn?1320234443 If you are overweight, and of course taking metformin you should start losing weight along with diet. Therefore, you could start having cycles and normal cycles for that matter, as well as also ovulating on a monthly basis. I take metformin twice a day 500mg, but I am also on birth control. Before knowing I had pcos, I always had a cycle every month...just was very irregular and heavy. I gave myself a 6 month break from the pill, and only stayed on metformin...
Avatar n tn If I'm taking metformin 500mg twice daily(which I just started august 12,2016) and my period came on 4 days after, when should I ovulate???
Avatar f tn I understand what your going through and no one can tell you for sure if you will get pregnant or how long it will take but there are so many options to help you get your little one! And you probably will not be as complicated, most women with pcos ovulate with clomid and metformin. good luck hun, It might take longer than planned but it will be worth it!
Avatar f tn If you are not pregnant and you end up getting your period on your own, then you did ovulate. if no period and not pregnant then you did not ovulate! then you need to use provera again.
418703 tn?1308825220 Not to sound discouraging but clomid never worked for me. I took the highest dosage allowed by the FDA and still did not ovulate. Now, for a positive note, I am taking Femara. A lot of people don't like this idea; however, it has been proven that the femara is out of your system long before you conceive and there is no risk of birth defects. Keep Femara in mind if Clomid doesn't work for you.
Avatar n tn I have recently been diagnosed with pcos and I have just started taking clomid and metformin. I was wondering how long it took for you to ovulate and to become pregant.
Avatar f tn I started taking 1 500 mg tablet per day and just started taking two. My question is, how long does this take to work. I haven't had my period in six months (definitely not pregnant). Thanks!
