Crestor is a statin (rosuvastatin calcium) only, Vytorin is a statin (Simvastatin) with Zetia (ezetimibe). Statins work by controlling the production of cholesterol in your liver while Zetia works by preventing cholesterol to be absorbed in your digestive system.
Of the two, Crestor is the stronger of the two. In addition, recent trials have shown that adding Zetia does not improve the performance of Vytorin over Simvastatin alone.
I am presently taking Zetia every other day. I also take Omega 3/6, vitamin A,E. With Zetia interfere with the absorption of the benefits of these supplements and if so what can I do to get the full benefit of Zetia and the supplements, if anything.
Ar there any other supplements that should be avoided while taking Zetia?

I think they have concluded that neither do Zetia, except when used with a statin, so it is the statin doing the work. I also think Welchol has been shown to not reduce cardiac events too. not sure. I am on Repatha. Third bi weekly shot. have about 1/3 of the severity of symptoms that I had on statins. headache, muscle aches. may put up with it and may not. just keepin on keepin on for now. Will see if this gets better, worse or stays the same.
The current clinical practice is to discontinue statin when the liver enzymes have increased to more than three times the upper limit of normal. Although zetia on its own does not generally cause liver enzyme abnormalities, it might potentiate the enzyme abnormalities, when coadministered with a statin.
Generally, when that happens, physicians would generally withdraw the statin or both medications, depending on the extent of enzyme elevation.
Ever since I started taking Zetia and Fenofibrate together as recommended by my DR, I have put on pounds, am more bloated around the belly,a nd have persistent chest pains. I noticed this has occurred ever since I have been on cholesterol lowering meds, but is more noticeable in the past year with the new combination of drugs. I mentioned this to my DR and he said I need the drugs because of my High Cholesterol. What do you think?

The normal ranges of GFR, adjusted for body surface area for males is 70 ± 14 mL/min/m2 (56-84) . Risk factors for kidney disease include diabetes, high blood pressure, family history and older age.

I have been having some highCholesterol level for 3 years now. I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person.
Incidentally, unrelated to GA, I started taking Zetia for cholesterol about 3 years ago and soon thereafter developed a severe chronic cough that nearly drove me crazy (and everyone around me!) I saw several doctors and was given many different medicines.
Anyone here know anything about zetia and its affect on the thyroid and or levo absorption? I have read it may affect absorption and the rx monograph says talk tp your doctor if you have thyroid disorders.
He knows I am on synthroid, but I am curious how this drug affects it.
Well, I can only say that when I had my MI, I could not find a single comfortable position to relieve it. Breathing fast, breathing slow, laying down, standing up, curling up, kneeling down, the pain was intense no matter what I did and lasted for about 20 mins then completely disappeared.
t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
After stopping each statin, it has taken me longer to get back to normal mentally. It is amazing how much better I feel now that I have been off of them for 4 mos. My energy level is back and my mental status is great. My latest numbers are T-343, Tri-171, DLDL-212, Direct HDL- 104. I do not have HBP, diabetes and do not smoke or drink alcohol. My diet is good but I do not exercise.
How many medications, vitamins or other supplements do you use on a daily basis for treatment of your Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue symptoms?
My doctor has changed my medication to Crestor which I was told to first take one a week for a couple of weeks, then (2) pills a week for 6 weeks then he will order another blood test. How long does it take after I go off the first medication before I should be able to tell if it is the medicine causing my muscle soreness? My cholesterol was a total of 282 with a HDL cholesterol in the 80's.
They are suppose to strip my membranes how does that work? Does it hurt.
