How good does valtrex work in suppressing HSV 1 I started taking 1000 mg a day?

have you been back to be tested for yeast and bacterial vaginal infections at all? there is a small percentage of folks who report more ob's while on valtrex. Why, we don't really know but it does happen ( nothing officially listed on the prescribing info about this - just things folks have mentioned over the years on the various boards ).

does valtrex works? i've tried acyclovir, didn't work. i was suggested to switch my prescription. i read about hsv-zero. have you tried it?

Hi Mike, I know that Valtrex does not affect antibody. But how about p24 antigen? At early 34days test, the main portion of test should detect the antogen rather than antibody?

I was swabbed and all tests came back negative however I did test positive for hsv 1 via blood work- my question is if this were an oral herpes outbreak genitally would being on valtrex every day for 4 months have made these symptoms subside ??? Is the pain people talk about with a herpes outbreak the actual open sores that are painful or is it a generalized pain ? Anyone have success with valtrex alleviating symptoms ?My Dr. prescribed it for 1 week. I also take desipramine (TCA) and have not had any relief from that yet either. It has been 2 weeks. How long can this crazy virus last? Does it subside or run it's course within 6 months? I thought I read this somewhere. Sorry for the multiple questions- this is just so frustrating... I want relief. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!!!

I am going to have to blood retaken again this week should be 18 weeks Friday.. How long should I stop taking the meds before I have blood work redone?

Has anyone tried laser treatment of the lesions? Does it work? Is there anyother medication that will help? I read a study about Complement C4 deficiency and HLA homozygosity in patients with constant HSV1. Is there anything I can do that will boost my C4 and HLA production which will hopefully help me fight this thing. Does anyone know anything that will help? I am ready to check out because of this terrible thing. Someone please help.

No that's incorrect. You do not have genital HSV1, there is no reason to suspect that you do in addition to the fact that you have near immunity from being infected genitally in any event. Add to this you are getting no relief from antivirals, which are most effective. Normally you can expected improvement within a couple of days. I think you need a fresh approach to identifying your problem.

That is the worst feeling for me never knowing when it will come back to give me pain. So that is my I take Valtrex daily it does give me somewhat of a feeling of control, but I know it is not a cure! So if you want some security ask your doc for daily valtrex and see how it works for you. Please do not look at your wife any different she probably already feels terrible and needs your support also. Take care!!

Wanting to know which is better for the purpose of decreasing chance that partner will become infected, use to decrease amount of asymptomatic shedding. Keep hearing only Valtrex does this, but someone on site suggested Acyclovir. Thanks in advance!

He said that valtrex is no $50 for a fill now that there is a generic brand. He said that it should work the same and you take it the same, but he said if I notice I am getting an outbreak that I need to talk to my doc about going back on the other valtrex and see if I can get it cheaper. This has thrown me for a loop as I am scared that it wont work the same or that I will get a small break out that I wont notice and infect my boyfriend.

I read that dental work may cause an outbreak if i have hsv, but i'm not sure if i do since i've never gotten an outbreak but have dated people with oral herpes, but they've never suffered an outbreak after the initial. whats the % of outbreaks caused by dental works? since i need to get a tooth removed for braces.

but i noticed w people tha have light to mild symptoms use acylovair and it does reduce shedding unlike valtrex.

How long does valtrex stay in your system? Say you miss dosage for 2 days... do the meds linger in system for any amount of time? Thanks!

I am about to go onto Valtrex suppressive treatment 500mg daily. I am visiting Laos/Thailand in Jan 2011 and I have been advised to take anti-malaria tablets while there called Doxycycline. Does anyone know if there is any interaction between these two drugs? Can it make one or the other not work as effectively? Thanks.

there will be no adverse side-effects if negative- just discontinue use. Valtrex does not normally cause any of these symptoms; stress does.

1) How do I protect myself against acquiring H2? My boyfriend will take Valtrex when we are together and we will use condoms as well but, from what I've read, even with those precautions, I am still vulnerable to getting H2. As far as I'm concerned, H1 in the genital area is plenty bad enough. I cannot face having H2 as well. 2) How do I prevent the fear of acquiring H2 from destroying my otherwise loving and passionate relationship?
