Avatar f tn I have mod-advanced periodontal disease and developed a PA abscess and cyst in 7 months which caused severe pain and swelling that required extraction. How did it come about? Is it from dental decay combined with periodontal disease? It was tooth 26 with over 7 mm gum pocket and 50% mobility.. Just wondering if I could have saved it earlier with maybe a root canal? Hope to hear from some expert.
Avatar m tn The Dentist can have done the best possible job but if you haven't changed your diet then new decay can occur. Eating a lot of sugary foods and drinks and snacking between meals isn't good for your teeth. A regular brushing regime with a fluoride toothpaste is also needed. There are a lot of hidden sugars in foods. Try creating a food diary for a week and highlighting all the foods that contain sugar.
Avatar f tn I have decay under crown and dentist wants to remove tooth but I also have a bridge next to this and the supporting tooth for this has roots going sideways due to an impacted tooth in gum line. This may become unstable after extraction and i end up with a large gap . what is the alternative. I have no pain under crown but gum is soft due to the decay.
Avatar f tn but the decay that close the the nerve... depending on hoe close the perm. tooth is to the baby tooth it could already have a bit of decay already. a root canal and a crown are very expensive to be doing on a tooth that will be falling out very soon. if you plan to get him braces have the tooth extracted to prevent any possible decay to his adult teeth if it hasnt already. and that will give the adult tooth the space it needs to come in if it is close enough any ways.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much for your responses. I do have another question in order to check to see how much decay, you mention X rays. Will my cat have to be sedated for that as well?

268698 tn?1222553884 You may want to take your x-ray to someone else to give you a third opinion. What tooth number is it? Does the decay extend below the gums? Are the roots straight forward or are they hooked at the ends? Ask these questions if you haven't already ... Also, hurry up before your insurance maximum runs out at the years end.

Avatar m tn He said the x-ray showed no infection in the tooth and no decay. He prescribed me amoxicillin (500 mg, 3x per day for 6 days, and a refill if necessary. He said if the pain doesn't go away then I might need a root canal or have the tooth pulled anyway. I'm skeptical and asking for advice here because I had a terrible root canal experience on the other side of my mouth about two months ago and the tooth ended up being pulled after a week of excruciating pain.

Avatar n tn suggesting that I do not have a bleeding gums or the gums are not wounded or broken and bleeding... just a tooth decay.. did I get infected also... I have done it last Saturday evening, July 12, 2008, I do not clearly remember if I give her the oral sex longer... because the morning I have a headache and feeling not ok like I would be having a fever and cannot eat well, and so my stomach is little troubled also... should I think it is but a Hang Over?
Avatar n tn No, this tooth does not have a root canal... unfortunately. That is one thing I have learned the hard way. I now always get root canals with a crown, no matter how well they are done, they always seem to hurt sooner or later if I dont't get a root canal. Thanks, I am going in tomorrow, looks like they will be cutting it off.

Avatar n tn And does this gap not lead to possibility of decay to the other roots. How long before serious decay can set in? Is there any way to rectify this. If teeth are vulnerable to decay in general, what does that mean for a tooth which now has a gap at the top near the gumline. If I run my tongue above the gumline where the procedure was done, it feels different than the other side. It caves in on the gumline as well & behind there I can feel the other two roots. PLEASE HELP?
Avatar n tn if the filling that exists in the top of the tooth is large, and if this newly discovered decay is extensive, the tooth may need a crown after the decay is cleaned out and the cavity filled. remember that the more "filling" a tooth has, the more prone to fracture it is. when teeth do fracture, sometimes they cannot be restored at all, so placing a crown befoe that happens is oftentimes prudent if the fillings are large.
Avatar n tn You may find that dentists do not spend any time counseling their patients relative to the things that cause tooth and root decay, or how to get free from it. Why should they when they make money from dental disease. Dental decay is the number one disease in the world. The primary cause is diet, and no amount of dental work can stop the decay process.
Avatar n tn It is common problem in kids generally with infants one, to protect them from tooth decay you can keep wet cloth with you and after each feed just wipe the mouth with it, this is the best prevention from tooth decay.
Avatar f tn You should check with your dentist for a decay in the tooth which could be on the sides of the tooth and not visible to you.
Avatar m tn t understand how the tooth would have extensive decay, as it has been covered by the bridge for the past 6 years. Is it common for decay to develop under the bridgework on the stumped supporting teeth? I also have an opposing gold bridge on the lower right side that is over 25 years old now. No similar problems to date, touch wood. Although, my dentist has also suggested this one needs to be replaced. Any furhter clarity is appreciated.
Avatar n tn after the cementation tells me that it was not seated correctly, therefore it is not fitting correctly. The odor from the tooth is probably from the cement washing out and does not necessarily mean that you have an infected tooth. Do youself a favor and get it redone.
Avatar f tn Hi there, Though I can confirm the cause only after an evaluation but it is possible that infected tooth can lead to sore throat. Whenever there is a cavity or tooth decay the food gets lodged in the tooth. The bacteria feed on the rotted foodstuff and eventually enter the Eustachian tube through the infected tooth. The Eustachian tube connects the throat, teeth; ears, eyes and head, infection that enters via the tooth can migrate or settle at one or more of these points causing pain.
