Common Questions and Answers about How does ondansetron work

4705307 tn?1447973922 And not to eat anything latter at night. Also I am taking ondansetron 4 mg, it says 1 every 8 hours or as needed for nausea and vomiting. But my problems is more cramping under my sternum, it becomes in the realm of 7-8 on a 1-10, pain scale. So I see no reason to take it, cramping seems to be different to me than nausea and vomiting, although at times my ribavirin does not want to stay down, this issue is also a relatively new problem. I have tramadol 50 mg for pain and that doesn't touch it.
Avatar f tn Does any of the medicine the docs give for morning sickness actually work? Everything else Ive tried isnt helping and its so terrible! I barely get through work and if it gets any worse Im not going to be able to work I really dont want that!
1201433 tn?1329001237 I also am on Zofran for nausea and vomiting. I take 8 mg every 8 hours, usually about an hour before I take my meds. You will need a prescription for it. With Zofran, do not wait until you get nauseated. Ondansetron works by blocking the 5HT3 receptors that are found in the brain and gut. This prevents the nausea messages being sent from these areas to the vomiting centre.
Avatar f tn Didn't get them until later though so not sure how they would work out for you. Maybe another thing to ask the Dr?
Avatar m tn Hi 2 weeks is not a long time to be off tx it does take time to recover. When I was gagging on tx I was given a prescription to help with that. Have you called your doctor about this? You may want to see the doctor I hope that you feel better soon.
585414 tn?1288944902 This class of antipsychotics works on cognitive and negative symptoms so it will either augment a conventional antipsychotic or be part of an antipsychotic that effects multiple receptors. How these receptors work in schizophrenia is in clinical study itself.
Avatar f tn It's usually very effective for severe nausea but its not for everyone, as in a very small percentage of patients it simply gives them a severe headache without relieving the nausea. It is still my best suggestion, as it does work very well for most and it is safe for most patients with cirrhosis.
Avatar f tn My best friend is struggling with this. Any ideas how to stop or calm down the nausea from this disease? Will a simple BRAT diet work? She is also losing weight, and doesn't have that much to lose. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I end up just throwing it back up. Ive also been spitting alot! Does anyone know what else might help? Im in the process of trying emetrol that my doctor recommend. . Thanks.
2062505 tn?1331092888 How long does it take to start feel at least OK after start taking INCIVEK? How to manage all that fat you have to eat?
Avatar f tn Ribavirin Effexor XR (venlafaxine) Pegasys (peginterferon alfa-2a) Zofran (ondansetron) Interactions between your selected drugs No results found - however, this does not necessarily mean no interactions exist. ALWAYS consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
Avatar f tn i take ondansetron odt 4 mg does work but has some sides...i still am unable to work but i think in a week or two i'll be ok for a little work once my procrit sets in...good luck...
Avatar f tn She has lost at least 10 pounds. (I now monitor her intake to make sure she does not get dehydrated and is getting at least minimal nutrition.) After 3 weeks, we went to an ENT who examined her but found no cause. He prescribed ondansetron. Twenty minutes after taking the first one, her right leg went numb, and her foot started hurting and was ice cold. That took 2 weeks to resolve. A week after the leg went numb, her left hand and lower arm became numb and hurt, but it was not very cold.
Avatar f tn I would ask your doctor about giving them to you. They work so good for me! I have had terrible nausea and vomiting also and know how much that *****! Make sure and keep drinking water, no matter what!
2046312 tn?1360383200 How low your viral load is does not determine how long you will treat. With Incivek you have to be Undetectable at week 4 to treat 24 weeks. Here is a chart: Here is the web site if you ever want to check it out: http://www.incivek.
2147300 tn?1369693288 Everyone's symptoms are different and vary in severity. The best advice I can offer is contact your doctor when side effects begin, so that you can hopefully get them managed properly and quickly. That will help you stay on treatment for the full course (and also help your family too!). Make sure that you are taking your Riba with food, and make sure that you are drinking enough water. Rest when you're tired, and don't overdo. That can lead to nausea as well.
Avatar f tn For myself, Zofran has no effect on my nausea. Oral Compazine does work for my nausea so I take it every six hours to help me manage my nausea. There are a number of other drug also options available for nausea which I am sure they are trying. A feeding tub won't necessarily make a difference with the nausea. It all depends on what is trigger the nausea. Many of us have had feeding tubes and still had nausea.
1438638 tn?1304950057 At least I knew what was going on and that 1-10 pain scale was a 50 and he did the reconstruction on a Thursday, is closed on Friday and does not have an answering service (how does a surgeon not have a service?
8518086 tn?1407293193 I had the same situation :/ but it does go away. I heard that pickles help a lot. I didn't try it.
3093770 tn?1389742726 I took it every 8 hours 30 min before the pills in order to prevent the nausea in the first place. It does not work as well if a person waits until he/she is already nauseated.

Avatar f tn My bloods for organ function were fine thankfully so Ive been put on ondansetron and discharged. Im really worried as the Doctor told be it is only perscribed if the benefits outway the risks which is the case with HG but after hearing that I wanted to ask you for your experiences please. The HG is worse on this pregnancy but im terrified of harming the baby. Going to contact the health store and see what they can provide vitamins etc so anything u think of please let me know.
Avatar f tn appointment face to face, usually I just go in for blood work about every 3 months but stuff has been going on that I have been having a hard time dealing with. we took a x-ray of my foot. It feels as if one of the screws is coming out and has been hurting also my big toe has a screw and it has been aching so bad.. I also feel as if I may have broken another bone in it I sure hope not but we will see when we get the reading on the x-ray back.
Avatar f tn Does anyone here have a problem with if you smell something bad it makes you gag, or even just the thought of a bad smell makes you gag and almost vomit?. This is crazy to me because where I used to work, I used to deal with bigger and badder smells ie.) changing adult attends, toileting consumers that were unable to do it themselves, and other things that were not very pleasant to say the least.
1012334 tn?1283706579 I swear I won't try again for another pregnany if this one does not work out okay. God is really torturing me here and it's so hard to have any faith left. My next ultrasound and labs to check my hcg levels are 8 days away and I'm crawling out of my skin.
Avatar f tn I did not have the luxury of stopping so although I could not be bothered, emotional and extremely tired and exhausted I still went to work. But then depends, I work in an office.
1750760 tn?1411486076 BTW, I was told by my doctor that most of the other anti-nausea meds are contra-indicated with Incivek due to interactions, but that Zofran (Ondansetron is the generic name) is fine. It USED to be hard to get approved due to expense, but is cheap now that the generic is available. In fact, it is cheap enough now that hardly anybody would blink an eye at paying for it.
Avatar f tn I remember just reading something about how Demerol isn't used in pain management because it has such a short half life and just does not provide relief long enough. I will see if I can find the article I was reading on this.
