How does letrozole work for fertility

Common Questions and Answers about How does letrozole work for fertility

femara

Avatar n tn I tried clomid as well a couple of years ago, with very similar side effects as you describe. The fertility specialist I am seeing now put me on Letrozole. Letrozole is actually a drug used for women with breast cancer. One of the 'side effects' is that it stimulates ovulation. Of course the dose you take for fertility purposes is much lower compared to taking it for breast cancer. I did a little research on my own and found that Letrozole is actually much safer than clomid.
Avatar m tn Hi" my name is lindsey ,And i have been on clomiphene citrate 50mg for months now and im up to 150 mg and i still dont have no luck with it... i do have a little girl she is 2 years old and i didnt have to take notthing to get pregnant with her it took me two years.. and now we are on our 2nd year of trying for this baby.. the dr said my body could be lazy....
1190279 tn?1324936257 Hi! Doctors will prescribe either clomid or letrozole to assist with ovulation. There's two main differences: it doesn't have anti-estrogenic side effects like clomid; and although studies have proven letrozole is an effective fertility drug it hasn't been approved by the FDA yet for fertility use, thus isn't covered by insurance (beware it's very expensive). Letrozole was developed to treat estrogen-sensitive breast cancers.
Avatar f tn Letrozole is the generic name for Femara. You'll see it referred to as that on here, too. I am on my 2nd round and waiting to see if it worked this cycle. Compared to Clomid, the s/e are nil. Clomid was much worse. So far I've not noticed anything different with Femara. Good luck!
284773 tn?1207757759 I read many scientific articles regarding femara before I decided to try it. It does work and worked for me on the first cycle. I know others who it also worked for. If you are looking for an alternative to clomid it is something you may want to investigate bfore moving on to injectibles. It works in a different way than clomid and therefore may work even if clomid did not.
Avatar f tn It all depends on your results, Clomid is not good for women over 40 because of how it affects the uterine lining, it is not good for implantation. I am 42 and doing back to back retrievals (getting my eggs out and fertilizing them). I am on Clomid and Menopur. I am doing a semi natural IVF. Once that is done they wait for my uterus to get back to normal and then implant the embryos at the optimum time.
Avatar f tn My 2nd one was done by a fertility doc. I took letrozole on day 3 to 7. Menopur shot day 3, 6, 9. Then hcg shot on day 10. They monitored my follicles and lining. I can just hope and pray for now. And ohhh. With my fertility specialist, they will do an iui twice for a cycle. Which is today and tomorrow. My gynae just did my iui once in a cycle.
1640824 tn?1325888415 My fertility doctor put me on 2.5 letrozole days 3-7. Has anyone got pregnant with this medicine? How long did it take?
Avatar n tn I have done Letrozole twice now, one with an IUI that ended up with a BFN this morning. I'm super bummed about it...trying to be as positive as possible. Will go in for a beta tomorrow morning to check where my hormone levels are-that has to be helpful to know, right? We've been ttc for over 2 years now and had a mc in Feb. 08 when trying w/o meds or anything. I had no side effects with Letrozole and my lining was great apparently.
4548024 tn?1590005019 it makes me feel like no one has had any success, with letrozole(femara) and thats the fertility med im taking, i put that comment up 1 month ago, and not one person has resoponded. So does it not work.
1287560 tn?1272216521 Have asked before but want to hear of any positive stories using letrozole(femara) to help with ovulation, this drug is primarily a drug used to help with breast cancer and is still in research stage for fertility problems, my dr is talking with other gp's because is not happy to prescribe it to me.
Avatar f tn your question is very specific, but i would surf the web for that by writing letrozole and mood swings. Abt lithium only a doc can tell you i found you though a previous query on Medhelp http://www.medhelp.
148691 tn?1260194903 ....oh! forgot to mention: my RE also discovered that my one ovary is 'elongated'......which, i have no clue what does that mean in terms of fertility. Does it mean i have a 'retarded' ovary!??? lol.....he didn't mention PCOS or anything and said he 'wasn't too concearned about it'......huh! imagine that! thank you!
Avatar f tn Tanu - I suggest you see a proper reproductive endochronologist or fertility specialist in your area. And get tested thoroughly to know the exact reason for not being able to conceive. As clomid didn't work, you may need more extra help and first of all you need to know the accurate reason for the delay. Good luck.
1121300 tn?1426184776 Okay ive just finished 8 rounds of clomid at 100mg and still not preggy so i told my ob that i wanted to try iui but he told me that its not worth it to do iui by itself or with clomid and that I ned to do injectables??? Does this sound right? The cost of iui with inject would be $1300.00 and I don't have a drug plan at the moment (im looking into getting one) Has Anyone done iui with clomid only and been sucessful?
Avatar f tn My husband and I have been trying for almost 1 year. I was on Clomid for 6 months and last cycle switched to Letrozole. Now my period is 4 days late and 2 pregnancy tests say NEGATIVE - this is killing me! My OB has told me I will have to take progesterone to bring on my period. Has anyone else had a late period due to Letrozole or had negative PG tests but turned out they were PG? Thank you.
Avatar f tn i have pcos and have tried clomide before, of which i did not ovulate on it. i have been on letrozole for the last 4months and have just gone to 5mg day 2-6. i have taken letrozole to concieve. On day 14 i had a scan that showed two follicles size16 and 11. could not have a followup scan so had progestrone level checked on D28.(irregular periods) and it was 34.
Avatar f tn I have found a fertility specialist and he has prescribed the following drugs. On days 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 I need to take 1T/day of Letrozole (to stimulate folicle growth). From day 8 onwards 2T/day of Progynova (to ensure thickening of my uteral lining) and from the 3rd day after ovulation, I need to take Duphaston. I can tolerate Letrozole and Duphaston without any problems.
Avatar n tn hey i like you have PCOS too along with high prolactin levels, my RE put me on clomid i was told the meax was 6 months and usually the first 3 months is when you have more chances on getting preg.
432737 tn?1358549432 If Clomid is going to work for you, it is likely to do so within 3 cycles. The statistics are 80% in 3 cycles. BUT, that is for the women it works for. There are exceptions to every rule, I hate to say. There % is much lower for conception cycles 4-6. Some will still conceive during that timeframe, but much fewer. Clomid is a pretty standard starting point and has been around forever. It used to be the only med out there and was just called "The Fertility Pill".
1287560 tn?1272216521 If you are seing an OBGYN, most have not heard of using femara (letrozole) for fertility. It is a breast cancer drug. It has not been FDA approved to treat infertility issues. I was seeing a RE and he put me on it and also did IUI with it. I am now 12 weeks pg with Twins. It can and it does work! :) When I went back to my OB for my prenatal care, she asked me what was done to get me pg and she said she had never heard of it....so that may be why. Best of luck to you!!!!
1253186 tn?1304783542 i am with the other girls! i am on cycle 4 and no luck so far! i am taking 100 mg of clomid and i dont think i ovulated once on it!!! i hope you have better luck than we did!
Avatar f tn Thanks so much for your responses. And to answer some of the above questions. . . My husband and I have pretty much been tested for everything. My husband's S/A was good in terms of total number and motility, but his morphology was low. Our RE said that it isn't even proven if that's an issue or not. I still struggle with that because I read so much conflicting info on the internet saying it is an issue.
Avatar n tn Last week, I had Laparoscopy surgery for my endometriosis (which resulted in stage 1). My doctor is prescribing Letrozole, everyday for 2 months, to clean up any endometriosis that may have been missed during surgery. After the 2 months, I would take 1 Letrozole for 5 days to promote ovulation. Any suggestions? Right path? Or is the only option I have is another IVF? Thank you...
Avatar f tn Hi! I'll be taking femara 2.5 CD3-7 next week for superovulation. Has anyone had success with femara? I'm not counting on it to work after just 1 cycle, but I'm really hoping it will! Does anyone who has taken femara have any advice? Did you ovulate later than usual???? Any info you can give is appreciated!!!!!
1626928 tn?1378850167 She asked me to come in tomorrow and I am jsut waiting for the ovidrel shot. I hope things work well this cycle itself. I have heard Femara is really effective and has less side effects compared to clomoid. Don't stress yourself. Just do your best... All the best. let me know if you have any questions. I would be glad to help.
