Those with light skin and dark hair are the best candidates for laser hair removal. I have PCOS, too, but I am the opposite...almost hairless. But, in the ways many women would like permanent hair removal, I do too. But since I have very fair skin and blond hair, I'm not a candidate for laser hair removal. Although expensive, that would be a permanent solution.
Avatar m tn Hello, Laser hair removal is for permanent removal of hair.It needs multiple sessions. Laser hair reduction works by targeting the hair follicle through the melanin in the hair. Melanin absorbs laser energy and transfers it down to the hair follicles, rendering them ineffective, thus stopping future hair growth. It is effective for all skin types and the most commonly noticed side effects are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to sunburn.
Avatar n tn I think it is similar to the laser sheaths used in the removal of chronically implanted pacemaker and ICD leads, only smaller. They remove the excess tissue causing the restenosis. As far as I know it is not widely used at most places or even at our institution.
Avatar f tn s pretty much the same as it used to be. The laser clinics always promote laser hair removal as permanent, but what you learn if you press someone on the matter is that it's not permanent removal, it's permanent ”reduction.” Meaning that even the clinics know that some or most hairs will grow back. And yes, I don't think it matters whether your skin is dark or light. If the lasers target melanin/pigment in the hair, then the same laser ends up targeting the melanin in the skin!

606433 tn?1220239937 Should I get permanent hair removal surgery? I heard that lasers work good for my problem. I have too much hair, and I need to get it removed.
Avatar f tn My husband had laser hair removal about two weeks ago to his beard. He developed folliculitis. The folliculitis is now cleared up and the hair on his beard is very patchy. The skin under the hair seems to be lighter than the skin that has no hair. Is this b/c the skin without hair is still healing and will blend in eventually or is it going to stay this way. Also, this was the first treatment. Will hair grow back in these spots that have no hair.
Avatar n tn Question - I get laser tattoo removal treatments every 6-8 weeks and pre-treatment the technician uses an ice roller (looks like a lint-roller but the roller is cold metal) and rubs it on the tattoo and does this again after the laser is performed. Because the laser can cause pinpoint bleeding I am concerned that she didn't sanitize the roller before she rubbed it on my tattoo (which was bleeding). Is there any risk here? Thank you for your answers.

Anyway, she said they also use that machine to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. I didn't ask how much it cost but that's an option anyway :) GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS!!
