Avatar f tn In the past year he has lost ALOT of weight due to no appetite. He says he’s ready to die. Will the pacemaker prolong is suffering? How does one die with a pacemaker?
Avatar f tn I'm having what the doctor referred to as a "generator repair" on my pacemaker next Tuesday. How long does this usually take? What other complications might be found?
Avatar m tn Not only did the dose not slow her heart rate significantly, but a 24 hour heart monitor disclosed that the drug was causing pauses in her heart beat. Her doctor has recommended a pacemaker to pick up the missed beats and a higher dosage of the drug to slow her heart rate adequately. 1) What is the (approximate) success rate for this treatment? 2) Is this a reasonable next step? 3) Depending on results, is ablation a possible next step?
Avatar f tn re waiting for his appointment to get his pacemaker installed. He has to find some other type of work to do then what he was doing before because he's always done physical jobs. What jobs can he do with a pacemaker? He has cardiomyopathy and we're unable to get a list of programs he can go study or jobs he can do. His heart is at 25%. Thanks.
Avatar f tn You could have a slow beat caused by what is known as a bundle branch block.I have that and needed a pacemaker. My heat rate dropped below 40 beats a minute. An ekg or echo cardiogram will pick it up. With the pacer mine is now a steady 60 beats.Good luck.
Avatar n tn t recall anyone who said they had problems other that a sore spot on the chest, but almost all people with pacemaker insertions report greater energy and a better quality of life. I also have a pacemaker, and am feeling great. I would proceed with great confidence and pass that on to your Grandmother. She will sail through this and feel much better, and she will undoubtedly get through the procedure better with your support.
Avatar n tn The report you have posted is an echo report which looks at the heart wall sizes and chamber sizes as well as the valves, it does not show the electrical system of the heart and how that is working. A pacemaker deals with the electrical system; HY is your doctor saying you need a pacemaker? What is your heart rate during exercise and rest?
Avatar f tn I just had a Pacemaker installed this past week after having worn a Holter Monitor for 24 hours due to extreme dizzy spells and weakness. I still feel dizzy and weak, so now they want to check me for blockages of the arteries. Has anyone felt like this after a Pacemaker was put in?
Avatar m tn I would let you Dr put the pacemaker in if thats what thay decide. 26 beats is prety low I thought 50 for me was low as I'm drop from tachy 150 to 50 with sudden low BP but my dr still has not figured out what going on with me yet I see the cardioligist on the 30th 9 days to go cant wait to have it over with.
Avatar n tn t mention how much control the pacemaker has. Is the PM a backup, that kicks in if you HR gets too low, or does it run your HR full-time? There are several people on this Community who have PM and I hope you'll get some good input from them. It does seem to me that the device should be adjusted to assure you don't have dizziness problems under normal work-load conditions (standing, walking, light work).
Avatar n tn With medication it went up to 42 % which felt a great deal better. After a couple of years my EF plummeted but then I had a bi-v pacemaker/defibrillator implanted and now my EF is 52%. My doctor told me at the start of this journey that it would take about a year to get the medications right and that I wouldn't necessarily feel better. We were up to preserving heart function and the early side effects of the meds did make me feel worse.... with time that subsided.
Avatar f tn I cannot understand how, even by VA medical standards, a person taking beta blockers, who has a pacemaker keeping the heart rate under 40bpm, who has uncontrolled Afib, unstable angina, as well as severe aortic stenosis, could possibly NOT be under the very watchful care of a cardiologist. In terms of decent medical practice, this makes no sense, for this collection of findings indicates serious cardiovascular disease *as well as* treatment currently under way.
Avatar f tn Now, after 3 and a pacemaker... and a code, and a few collapses... I live connected to a backpack full off meds that I can not get away from. They can cut me open now, no problem. I'll eat 2 cans of alpo a day and howl at the moon. Mostly, pray. For those who might pray for me, thank you. For those with any better ideas, thank you. I'll check back in after the appt.
Avatar m tn Stu has a pacemaker for bradycardia and still is effected at times by PVC's it doesn't stop them or make them worse.
88793 tn?1290227177 Reading the paper abstract it deals with a study looking at a whole range of people who have had a pacemaker fitted for a wide range of reasons. In addition, the date of the implant of the pacemaker ranged over several decades (so some of the pacemakers were the earlier types). It does not say that the average lifespan was 22 years after implant, what it does say is that if you have structural heart problems, then you are less likely to live as long as someone without a pacemaker.
Avatar f tn My husband has been totally reliant on a pacemaker since unsuccessful surgery for WPW 27 years ago. Recent nuclear testing shows CI although his pacemaker is rate-responsive. He's at the end of life of his 3rd battery. One failed lead was replaced 13 yrs ago and so 3 are in place. He now needs a 4th lead but has ongoing circulation issues from the space occupied by leads. Would a dual-sensor pacemaker be likely to help the CI? Would all models require 2 new leads instead of one?
Avatar f tn Maybe, just a pacemaker. We should see what isncausing it.
Avatar f tn How many people go back to work with transitory for veritable brain aneurysm and pacemaker for accelerated functional rhythm sass and navy. I continue to miss work with all my problems. Migraines, nausea, functional rhythm, set. Dizzy etc. Would I qualify for disability. Getting to be impossible to work!
963651 tn?1247528914 I would still be passed out on the floor with a pacemaker in me. If the problem is the heart itself then a pacemaker is needed. But if it is from the nerve signals sent to the heart a pacemaker will not help.
Avatar f tn Hello Thanks for joining the site and posting your question. This is an interesting one I don't think I've ever encountered. In general, does your French horn rest on the area where your current pacemaker is and where it is to be replaced? I wouldn't think so. And I wouldn't think this will impact your ability to play. However, recovery from the replacement can take a few days to a month or so.
Avatar m tn I have a dual chamber pacemaker and a mechanical valve. I have been told a couple different answers for my questions, and wanted to know if I can lift weights and work out normal. I also wanted to know if there has been foundings against going in a tanning bed with a pacemaker and blood thinners?
9576600 tn?1475757952 It sounds like certain positions create the block situation which are really unavoidable so it makes sense to get a pacemaker. For a few unfortunate people their svt was located too close to vital areas and blocks can occur. I am sorry that happened to you. I would suspect a pacemaker would fix your palpitation issues but if not it is possible that there is still a little svt left. Considering it's close proximity to vital areas it is possible they were cautious in ablating.
Avatar f tn Our bodies do tend to adjust to to medications and our organs do tend to get used to them and return to earlier patterns. Metoprolol is a pretty basic Beta Blocker, there are much stronger beta blockers that will indeed take your blood pressure lower, like Coreg, but drugs of that class are very difficult to take. It's possible that you need to evaluated for a different medication or perhaps a pacemaker. I'd suggest Occupant asked a very good question based on your inquiry.
