1046985 tn?1305117048 My concern is that once I get my ovaries removed, (within the next few months hopefully) and I go through instant menopause, I will gain even more weight. Has anyone got any advice, or stories of hope. I have heard that ovarian problems can cause weight gain, and that its almost a given with menopause, aaargh..
Avatar f tn t want to take any meds that will make me gain my weight back so she suggested doing an DNC and I want to know which one is the better option. HRT or DNC. And I'm having a hard time getting rid of the last 97 lbs. and I'm tired constantly even with taking B12 by mouth daily and shot weekly.
Avatar f tn d like to see your labs before commenting. Do you have any other hypo symptoms besides weight gain? Two pounds a year isn't typical of the weight gain due to thyroid. When hypo or undermedicated, many of us easily put that on in a week or less. Thyroid weight gain tends to be fast and furious. You have a couple of other things going on: age (don't we all?!) and menopause, both of which are more apt to cause slow but steady weight gain.
Avatar m tn I am a 50 year old women just starting menopause, is it normal to have all the symptoms of starting a period, like breast swelling, bloating, weight gain, and then it just goes away after a few days, but with no bleeding.
8210549 tn?1397032061 Symptoms of hypothyroidism are fatigue, depression, weight gain, cold intolerance, dry, coarse hair and skin, constipation ,muscle cramps, decreased concentration, vague aches and pains, menstrual disorders, palpitation and swelling of the legs. I feel that you should consult a physician and get yourself and your thyroid hormone levels evaluated. Other than that get your estrogen, progesterone and FSH levels checked as hormonal imbalance in menopause can also cause such symptoms.
Avatar f tn I am leaning towards getting the surgery this summer. I am concerned about going into menopause, possible weight gain, emotional changes, and risks with hormone supplements...... However, I'm more concerned about cancer! I do not smoke, I am not over weight (I could stand to lose a little weight ;-)))) and am in good health. I would appreciate any advise or recommendations you have about hormone therapy concerns and any info you can share to prepare me for the hysterectomy.

Avatar f tn High levels of estrogen cause unexplained weight gain and feeling fatigued or lethargic. Low thyroid hormone is a consideration since there is family history of thyroid disease but high estrogen is a more likely cause in my opinion. A good article on high estrogen is "High Estrogen Overload Symptoms. Dangers Every Woman Should Be Aware Of" from the Healthy You Naturally website. An excerpt....
2135035 tn?1345463035 Stress, bad eating habits, consumption of sugary foods all can lead to increased weight gain in woman after the age of 40.Thyroid hormone imbalance is another possible cause of unexplained weight gain. Your mother should have a healthy diet coupled with a good exercise schedule to lose weight. A heavy breakfast, light lunch and dinner should be consumed daily. A daily brisk walk of 30 minutes will keep her fit and healthy.Inspite of this if she is unable to lose weight seek medical help.
Avatar f tn I had my thyroid removed in September 1989. I've been ok for the most part up until recently. I haven't had my period in 7 months ( I'm 43yrs old) and believe its menopause. Can not having a thyroid effect menopause. Also, I haven't been able to gain weight in 10+ years ...I stay pretty much the same weight. My weight ranges between 104lbs and 108lbs. I haven't seen 110lbs in 10 years.
Avatar n tn I have episodes on average of once every two weeks, my HR gets up to 180bpm, and will last anywhere from 15 minutes to 8 hours. I know this sounds vain, but what are the chances I will gain weight after my ablation, assuming it is successful? If I maintain my activity level will I gain weight? Thanks~!

Avatar f tn My problems started around Dec of 2013 with some steady weight gain. I started watching calories and in January 2014 started some exercise (running in place, jumping jacks etc..) The end of January I had a little spotting, then a very painful bowel movement and started to have vaginal bleeding. I have not had a period in 8 years (Hormone levels in 2009 showed peri-,menopause but almost post menopause). I had been period free for 3 years at that point.
Avatar f tn I have had hot flashes, night sweats and a small bit of weight gain. Last month the hot flashes seemed to have stopped along with the night sweats. I am sleeping better and then just yesterday I notice I am having a little bit of bleeding. It feels like a period. Just very lite. I have called my dr and I am going to be seeing him next week. I have had a lot of stress, family stress going on in my life. Could this be all it is or does this happen sometimes. I am a bit concerned.
Avatar f tn I had similar symptoms for years - the hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, terrible periods and some weight gain. I kept telling my doctor I felt like I was heading towards menopause. The blood test always came back normal. Even up to a few months before my last period, I was sure menopause was just around the corner. The blood test said everything was normal. Sure enough, a few months after my annual exam, I had my final period. Everything has mellowed out and I feel wonderful.
Avatar f tn but the losing weight is unusual! most of us gain weight. you should ask your dr to check your hormone levels. he can put you on the pill and that will help you greatly with your symptoms! as i was a smoker at the time, i could not take them and just had to suffer it out. but i also have a chiari malformation that added to my symptoms! to help with the hot flashes, get yourself a "cool tie" you can find them many places online and they are a godsend!!!
Avatar f tn Hair loss, weight gain, fatigue no menstrual cycle for over a 1 1/2 yrs. My question is: Could the thyroid issue be related to the kidney issue, hairloss, weight gain etc. and how do you counteract high levels of this particular hormone. There are only two endo doctors here and they are booked for 3 mos.
