On September 29, 2009 I had a complete hystorectomy with a 10lb adnexal mass removed at MD Anderson. An intestinal type cancer of low malignant potential was found. I am waiting to be sceduled for an MRI & Colonoscopy.
After my surgery I was prescribed Effexor for my mood swings and hot flashes. The doctor has continued to increase the dosage up to the highest = 150 mg per day. All it has done for me is turn me into a zombie.
Hello. I want to know how to get Hormone Replacement Therapy. A few months ago I spoke to my psychiatrist about wanting HRT, but she said it wasn't her area of expertise and that I should go see a specialist on transgender and yeah... Not really sure what I'm supposed to do as these Specialists are, as far as I've been told, very far away. Why can't she just give me a prescription or something along those lines? What do I do?

The doc wanted to start me on hormone therapy and injections based on my bone density test. I was prescribed the estrogen Duavee 20 mg daily and Prolia 60 mg shots every 6 months. Has anyone had experience with Duavee or Prolia? My doc did not go over the side effects of these but when I looked up Duavee it looked like hormone meds had severe side effects, one being particularly important to women, the increased risk of uteurus cancer.
Although there are no clinical trials in patients with cirrhosis, bisphosphonates are the preferred agents for the treatment of hepatic osteoporosis or advanced osteopenia. Therapy should be strongly considered prior to LT, to reduce the risk of bone loss and fracturing post-transplant. In patients with oesophageal varices, oral bisphosphonates are generally avoided. Intravenous pamidronate or zoledronic acid may be given every 3–12 months.
My question is that I have talked to people who have had mastectomies and no hormone therapy. First I want to know if HT is standard care in my case and seocnd I want to know if HT is standard with mastectomies for my type of cancer. While I understand that you cannot anser this for me, I want to know if in some medical circles HT is omitted for my situation. I am asking becasue I want to know if it is worth it for me to seek a second opinioin.
It all depends on why you were prescribed the hormone therapy, what hormone it is to whether you should carry on taking it or not.
Unfortunately, it is the doctor's decision whether you should continue with the hormone therapy. Your decision is if you agree to take it or not.
If you are concerned about the therapy being stopped, you should ask your doctor the question why.
I was diagnosed at age 49 in May, 2007 with Stage II, 3 nodes positive. I had 4 rounds of A/C and 4 rounds of Taxol followed by 33 rounds of radiation. My doctor now wants to put me on hormone therapy. I am premenopausal but haven't gotten my period since July due to chemo. She won't put me on Tamoxifin because of a past history of TIA several years ago. She said I would be at too high a risk for stroke on it.

Took new saliva test and went to new hormone specialist. She changed me to cream (bio-identical also) plus added 4 adrenal food supplements. I have taken the same blood pressure med for 17 years and kept my levels normal. After using the hormone cream and adrenal supplements for three weeks, my blood pressure soared. My doctor took me off the supplements, but my blood pressure was still dangerously high. She doubled my present BP med plus added another med before it would come back down.

I am a 25 year old female, I had a saliva hormone kit evaluated with testosterone, DHEA, estradiol, and progesterone, also progesterone/estradiol ratio done. The results came back as this,
Estradiol- normal
Progesterone- Low; 47.2 (range of 127-446)
Ratio of Progesterone to estradiol - 33.0 Low; (range of 200-600)
Testosterone- 83.5 High; (range of 6.0-49)
DHEA- 366.7 High- (range of 106-300)
I can tell that i have way higher 'male hormones' than the women's hormones but, why?

Some sites even stated I should have been on HCG during my therapy to reduce the side effects of shrinking testicles, which I have experienced. HCG is supposed to reverse this so I'm wondering if this is what I need, or just another supplement I can buy to help me feel better and energetic again. What have doctors learned about treatment in the decades that they have been prescribing chemotherapy to women that is specifically designed to shut down the production of sexual hormones? I am in a 35-year marriage to a normal male with normal male sexuality. At age 50 I enjoyed an active sex life. I was treated for cancer. With years of effort I lost the weight gained from the other drugs given for treatment.

m a 40-year old male and mistakenly took two female hormone pills (unsure of the exact active ingredients, perhaps estrogen) thinking they were vitamins. I don't know the exact dosage. I'm very concerned I'm going to have some permanent effects from this -- decreased testicle size, or breasts, or something -- and it's freaking me out. What can I expect? Have I done serious damage to my body. It's really causing me a huge amount of anxiety.
