Common Questions and Answers about Hormone therapy estrogen

hormone

Avatar n tn Im reading a lot of advice against the use of hormone replacement therapy, but the studies I have researched report that its the combination of progesterone and estrogen that is bad for you, and that estrogen alone may actually decrease the risk of breast cancer. My question then is has anybody else read any studies similar?
Avatar f tn I have been told from the start that with a lumpectomy I would need radiation. I found out later about the hormone therapy. I want to know if this is standard of care for my situation. I had a 1cm lump including DCIS and ILC. My margins were 6mm, 1cm, 5cm, 6cm. The ILC was in a linear pattern and low nuclear grade. 4 of 4 nodes were negative for cancer. I am ER+ 100% and PR+ 90%. I am HER2 negative. I was told my cancer was caught very early and I should be OK.
Avatar n tn Your Dr can and should do blood work, because even though it may seem not your ovaries are still trickling just a bit of estrogen so you need to know your hormone levels ( Dr does) to prescribe correct combination or single hormone, what ever you may need.
Avatar f tn Everything I have read seems to indicate that estrogen and also estrogen replacement therapy slow down the progression of fibrosis. I copied and pasted a few links here but just Google Hepatitis C liver fibrosis estrogen replacement and all sorts of sites will come up for one to read. Avatar f tn I have been on bioidentical hormone therapy for several years: estrogel 0.06% 2 pumps once daily and prometrium 200 mg. daily. My main symptoms for seeking treatment were severe hot flashes, night sweats and insomnia. These symptoms have subsided since being on hormone replacement therapy. I do not have access to individual dosage evaluation and preparation of these hormones. I know that it is best to take the lowest dosage that gives me relief of my symptoms to decrease my risks of cancer.
Avatar f tn Hello, After hysterectomy, hormone replacement therapy would consist of estrogen alone usually given daily by pill or sometimes weekly or biweekly skin patch. However hormonal replacement therapy should be given for a short time only as long term use may be associated with a small increase in breast cancer. In my opinion you should consult a gynecologist and start with hormone replacemenr therapy.
Avatar f tn Hormone therapy is really not reccomended after batteling cancer,,,ask your Dr his opinion of a herbal called Black Kosch it is known to be good for hot flashes do NOT take it without his permission, I have no idea if it is safe for you or not.
Avatar n tn Lymph nodes clear. After surgery had mammosite. Should I do hormone therapy? I also had ovarian cancer 2 yrs. ago. Stage 1A also. Doing well here. Took chemo for OV. and left me with aching legs and joints. The hormone therapy has so many side affects. The drugs suggested for me are Arimidex or Raloxifene. Is there anyone that does not take hormone therapy and is still doing well with no recurrance?

What you are having is breakthrough bleeding due to hormonal effect of bioidentical hormones and should get better with time. If it persists then get it evaluated from your gynecologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar m tn After my hysterectomy, the doctor started me on estrogen therapy, Premarin 0.9 daily. A few months ago, I recorded an episode of Oprah, the topic was HRT. After watching this episode, I promptly made an appointment with my family doctor to discuss other HRT options. I stopped taking my Premarin, and upon my request for a safer or natural hormone, she prescribed estradiol .05 once a week patch, just recently (last week) added Prometrium, 200 mg. daily. My health/sanity issues have not changed.
Avatar n tn s plenty of confusion about hormone replacement therapy, which is now commonly called hormone therapy. The truth is that hormone therapy is not a magical cure , but it's still the most effective treatment for unpleasant menopausal symptoms for most women. Estrogen remains the most effective treatment for relief of troublesome menopausal hot flashes and night sweats. It can also ease vaginal symptoms of menopause, such as dryness, itching, burning and discomfort with intercourse.

Avatar f tn A couple of members here, including myself, watched Robin McGraw yesterday speak about bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Did you know that women as young as their teens can have hormonal imbalances ? And that you can show signs of perimenopause in your 20s... feel horrible and be misdiagnosed with chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia ? And yet the medical field has failed us again on this other issue.
492898 tn?1222243598 Laboratory tests are performed after surgery or biopsy to determine if the breast cancer cells are hormone receptor positive. Hormone receptor positive breast cancer is depended on estrogen hormone for multiplication and growth and it is rational to block the hormones on which the tumor cells are feeding. Contrary to many people’s belief; hormonal therapy is a more effective form of breast caner adjuvant therapy compared to chemotherapy.
Avatar n tn Either way, if your breast cancer is hormone receptor positive, then hormone therapy would likely be recommended as the body does produce estrogen outside of the ovaries. You should discuss with your doctor what drug might be best for you.
Avatar m tn I am thinking about having a hysterectomy because of terrible endemetriosis, I am 47 and have a history of breast cancer, so I cannot get any hormone replacement therapy. But i have read that maybe it won't help. Does anyone have any thoughts?
Avatar m tn We tried every doc on our HMO ands finally had to pay cash and go to a private doc who specializes in male hormone therepy. I was told that the high estrogen levels also increased the risk of cancer, similar to women who take hormones for IVF. Be careful!

Avatar f tn Thank you for the information, remar! Greatly appreciated. You know, we've talked about hormone therapy, but no specifics. Although, she did mention that the estrogen in the therapy is a lower dose than even my body provides. Are there many different types of therapy?
Avatar n tn I was in bed so much after Doxil also and should have been wearing the compression socks to prevent blood clots. I have not been on hormone therapy. I am on the shots and Coumadin (Warfarin).
