Avatar n tn Maximum prostate contains zinc, selenium, cholesterol and isoflavones. It is intended for an enlarged prostate and maintaining prostate health. Since you have had cancer and radiation therapy you may not see a benefit and it is unlikely to help with burning urination.
Avatar m tn Hi Slippery, I am sorry to hear about your condition and am also a PCa patient (Gleason 9, T3). Like you, I had a Radical Prostatectomy. My PSA test 90 days after surgery was already 0.7, AKA biochemical failure. In short, the surgery was too late. As a result I have researched and studied prostate cancer conditions, treatments and prognosis literature until the wee hours of the morning trying to get a clear picture of what to do and what to expect.
Avatar m tn Hashimoto's Thyroiditis usually gradually diminishes output of the thyroid gland, causing lower levels of Free T4 and FreeT3, and resultant higher TSH. Sometimes the Hashi's causes nodules that leak hormone faster than normal, causing your thyroid hormone levels to be higher than would be expected. Your ultrasound was reported to show no nodules, but did show leakage.
Avatar n tn If you already have some problems with bowel movement, then radiation may not be a way to go. Are you on hormone therapy? This could potentially mask the actual PSA values, making decisions about whether we need to look for disease in the bones difficult to make decisions for as well.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your question. Nearly all prostate cancers become resistant to hormone therapy after a few months or years of treatment. In short, hormone therapies should be reevaluated after the PSA starts to rise. If you are currently taking bicalutamide you could switch to flutamide or nilutamide. The next step may be to move to secondary therapy ketoconazole. It is important to continue to watch the PSA along with imagining to monitor bone activity.
Avatar m tn Retest in 6 months - your symptoms at the moment might just be BPH related- enlarged prostate due to inflammation.... all sorts of things can artificially raise PSA level.
Avatar f tn What causes prostatomegaly(enlarged prostate)...is caused by a urinary infection or is it caused by HORMONE IMBALANCE? Is it caused by a STD?
Avatar n tn I had prostate surgery by Robotics this past February. I have been on Hormone therapy for the last 5 months. I completed Radiation Therapy 1 month ago. When my Prostate was removed the left nerve bundle was spared and the right one was infected. Everything else looked good and nothing else was infected.
Avatar m tn If his PSA value is low, it is just BPH (benign Prostate Hyperplasia). The prostate is enlarged (although 22cc is not big) and can press against the bladder or limit the flow of urine. The first can give rise to urge incontinency (urge to pee although the volume in the bladder is still low), the second can make it difficult to fully empty the bladder and so shortens the interval between to toilet visits.
Avatar n tn i went to my dr. today and was told i had an enlarged prostate. i am 43 and am worried. my dad has prostate cancer. they took blood to check psa levels. i was wandering if anybody else on here had or has an enlarged prostate around my age and what may cause this condition. std related, or other infection. i appreciate any help and thank you in advance..
Avatar m tn what are the best antihistamines (dust allergy) for somone with an enlarged prostate?
Avatar n tn Had this investigated at the beginning and consultant was unable to find a cause. Since then my prostate has become enlarged, benign, taking medication for this but still means getting up a couple of times a night. Even doing this does not ensure that an episode of bedwetting will not occur. Any ideas This discussion is related to Adult Bedwetting.
Avatar m tn Stones are uric-acid based. My prostate was probably enlarged. Stones continued to grow in size, passing one 1-2 wks. Was given Sodium Citrate. 2 months later, passed 5mm stone. 24-hour urine collection said I hyperexcrete uric acid. Was prescribed 300mg Allopurinol and 10mg of Alfuzosin. Just passed another "giant" stone, but after 5 weeks. Desperate to stop these stones. I do not want the penis probe! HELP!
Avatar m tn 9 so I went through radiation with hormone therapy for seven weeks. PSA went down to .01, after the hormone treatment. Follow up appointments were made, the latest PSA was 2.9 in April 2011, My oncologist said that the PSA reading is too low to be concerned with. I also had bone scan, MRI done and they found 5mm size growth in my pelvic area. My oncologist told me that he wants to see me in August for evaluation. I am concerned about the rising PSA.
Avatar m tn Would having prostate cancer (early detection very small doing watchful waiting) prevent me from having the Green light laser therapy to help my enlarged prostate? Would the T.U.R.P. surgery be the treatment of choice? I am 69 years old, have had the cancer for three years doing annual biopsies (none of the biopsies have shown cancer) and checking PSA twice a year. Thanks.
Avatar n tn My 12 year old Dachshund has been diagnosed with an enlarged prostate. He has no symptoms. He pee's normal and poops normal, eats normal and plays normal. The vet said I could neuter him and the prostate may shrink and or medication and measure it and labs or do nothing. I read there is treatment non invasive use of pulsed electromagnetic field therapy that had a 100 positive trial. What should I do, he is 12 and happy, would neutering him be a good option? or leaving him alone happy?
Avatar m tn A bone scan and CT is being booked. More than likely one day next week. The doctors have suggested hormone therapy and radiation as opposed to removing the prostate/surgery. They say it is because of his age. Is the surgery a better chance at improvement/length of life than radiation and hormone therapy? I'm not understanding the reasoning in choice of treatment. father is 73 years old.
1907520 tn?1321901097 I am scheduled to have Robotic Surgery to remove my Prostate and two enlarged Stomach Lymp Nodes on November 29, 2011. If anyone out there my age that has had this surgery please let me know what to expect, pain after, sexual disfunction, ect... All I see on here is older men than myself and what they are and have gone through. I keep getting told by my Urologist and Oncologist that this is the fastest and most extreme case of Prostate Cancer they have ever seen in a man my age.
Avatar n tn At this point, discuss the options with the physician. Medications ( chemotherapy and hormone therapy) may be given first prior to radiation therapy or when surgical therapy fails to bring down PSA levels.
Avatar m tn It is believed that artificially raising the testosterone levels (by taking supplements) can trigger some prostate problems, even prostate cancer. The mechanisms are not clear but for the case of cancer, it is said that suddenly higher testosterone, at levels the orgasnism is not accustomed to, can awaken dormant cancerous cells that otherwise could remain inactive and harmless.
Avatar m tn There are several options for the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer. These can be stratified into two general categories, hormonal therapy and chemotherapy. It is important to clarify that no treatments can cure advanced prostate cancer. The goal of these treatments is to control the spread and related symptoms. Hormonal therapy, in broad terms, aims to limit the effect of testosterone in driving the spread of prostate cancer. Thank you for your question.
Avatar m tn After that it becomes ineffective.Have you monitored the PSA during therapy? Hormone therapy is just an evasive procedure to slow down the cancer so that other methods have time to act. Your other questions can only be answered by your doctor. I am 64 and went through radiation for my prostate cancer (Gllison Score 8). After radiation PSA is 0.02 before it was 29.
