Common Questions and Answers about Hormone sensitive breast cancer hrt

hormone

Avatar f tn This is why we recommend that women with estrogen receptor positive breast cancer avoid HRT as well as soy and other “natural” estrogen products.
Avatar m tn if I take a very low dose of HRT, how much am I really increasing my chances of breast cancer? The lack of sleep is numbing and makes it very difficult to function and impossible to feel good.
Avatar f tn The Women's Health Initiative showed that combined HRT as Prempro (conjugated estrogen plus progestin formulation medroxyprogesterone acetate) increased the risk of breast cancer. Estrogen taken without a progestin (Premarin) did not increase risk of breast cancer. But you are correct that a progestin or progesterone needs to be taken with estrogen to protect the uterine lining from proliferation and risk of hyperplasia or cancer.
Avatar n tn Hormone replacement therapy is rarely used since it was proven to increase the risk of breast cancer by a considerable amount. When it is used it is at the lowest dose possible and for the shortest time necessary. I would certainly see either your Dr. or a Breast Specialist for a clinical breast exam and possibly an Ultrasound to determine what is causing the symptoms you describe. Regards .....
Avatar n tn Since I had the mastectomy, would it be safe for me to be on hormone replacement therapy? I have a strong family history of breast cancer, including sisters, mother, and aunts. I am 45 years old, and am very concerned of heart desease and osteoporsis. The breast cancer I had was DCIS in my left breast, but followed the surgeons advise and had the bilateral mastectomy because of my strong family history. What is your oppinion?
Avatar f tn Lobular breast cancer accounts for about 10 percent of invasive breast cancer -- the kind that threatens to spread -- according to the American Cancer Society. It can be treated with hormone-based therapies such as tamoxifen, but the tumors are more difficult to detect by mammograms, meaning it is often diagnosed in more advanced stages.
Avatar f tn My sister noticed a difference in her breast tissue and the cancer was discovered through an ultrasound. Does this type of breast cancer usually run in families?
561921 tn?1216605621 I had a bilateral mastectomy from having DCIS, from strong family history of breast cancer. I recently just went through bilateral oophorectomy and tubes removed. I was told by the nurse at the hospital, that my doc will probably prescribe hormone replacement therepy. Is this safe, even though I no longer have overies, or breast? Is estrogen replacement the best therepy?
Avatar f tn Does this put me at a higher risk level for breast cancer? I know I am probably overanalyzing this but it is very bothersome. I am scheduled for the (Open) Excisional biopsy next month.
Avatar n tn Im reading a lot of advice against the use of hormone replacement therapy, but the studies I have researched report that its the combination of progesterone and estrogen that is bad for you, and that estrogen alone may actually decrease the risk of breast cancer. My question then is has anybody else read any studies similar?
Avatar f tn It has been found to increase the risk for BC, which is why so many women went off their long-term HRT use a few years back, and why doctors now recommend that HRT (esp. combined HRT) be used at the lowest dose possible for the shortest time possible. (Didn't your doctor advise you to go off the hormones after the atypicla ductal cells were found?) Bisphosphonates (Fosamax, Reclast, etc.): no.
Avatar n tn Having a positive HER-2NEU implies a more aggressive type of breast cancer. HER-2 positivity also implies that your tumor is sensitive to some of the new cancer drugs like Herceptin. Being HER-2 negative means that you would not benefit from Herceptin use. The Premarin (conjugated estrogen tablets) you were taking did not cause your breast cancer, but could have provided an added stimulus for the growth of your cancer.
Avatar n tn Have there been studies of women who had estrogen positive breast cancer while on HRT due to hysterectomy and stopped their source of estrogen. The only information that I can find talks the women who had ovaries, and I have not found any information that talks about the women who have had hysterectomies prior to breast cancer.
Avatar n tn s important that you discuss with your surgeon about taking Hormone Replacement Therapy, because it could cause breast cancer and your doctor would be the best one to advise you what to do. Take care...
Avatar m tn Estradiol is one form of estrogen and is (or at least used to be) considered HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) although some refer to it as ET (estrogen therapy). There is estrogen-only HRT and combined (estrogen plus progestin or progesterone) HRT. Women who have a uterus who take HRT must take progestin or progesterone if they take estrogen in order to protect their uterine lining from the proliferative effects of estrogen.
Avatar f tn Please do some research about HRT before you decide to use it, google the topic etc. You will find HRT has a possible link with breast cancer. You don't need HRT. There are other alternatives. You say osteoporosis runs in your family. Even so you don't have to take HRT. A family member took HRT for almost 20 years plus actually. Her genecologist put her on it. Five years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer. I wish you the best.
Avatar n tn s plenty of confusion about hormone replacement therapy, which is now commonly called hormone therapy. The truth is that hormone therapy is not a magical cure , but it's still the most effective treatment for unpleasant menopausal symptoms for most women. Estrogen remains the most effective treatment for relief of troublesome menopausal hot flashes and night sweats. It can also ease vaginal symptoms of menopause, such as dryness, itching, burning and discomfort with intercourse.
Avatar f tn Thanks for sharing your story.
Avatar f tn Hormone Replacement Therapy has been proven to increase the incidence of breast cancer and since your cancer was ER+ and you had medication to block the production of the hormone I wouldn't think you would be prescribed HRT now. Keep in mind that the ovaries produce the Estrogen ... not the Uterus. Your sister's cancer would not be related in any way to your cancer ... the fact that one was ER+ and one was not has no bearing on the situation.
Avatar m tn I went thru a super hard perio and menopause. Drs said I'm not a candidate for any type of HRT. My grandma and aunt had breast cancer. Are you taking or considering HRT ? There's also bio identical hormone treatment available. Some of the creams at the Heath food store helped me a little. Fresh air and exercise help. Drinking lots of water too.
