Avatar f tn If you are found to have an underactive thyroid gland, thyroid hormone replacement can be effective at restoring fertility. It make take two to three months to regulate your thyroid hormone levels with medication; this should be done before you try to get pregnant.
Avatar n tn * This can be caused by an overactive thyroid, a condition called hyperthyroidism. It can also be caused by taking too much thyroid hormone medicine as a replacement for an underactive thyroid. When you take a thyroid hormone medicine, your doctor or other healthcare provider will check your thyroid function with a blood test called a thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).

Other interventions may be needed to treat infertility even after hypothyroidism is treated. If you have hypothyroidism and become pregnant, tell your doctor promptly. Close monitoring of your thyroid hormone levels during pregnancy is important.
Avatar f tn FT3 and FT4 are much better indicators of your thyroid status than TSH, which is a pituitary hormone and several steps removed from thyroid function. Do you have hyper symptoms?.
Avatar m tn Thyroid peroxidase (TPO) is an enzyme made in the thyroid gland that is important in the production of thyroid hormone. TPO is found in thyroid follicle cells where it converts the thyroid hormone T4 to T3. Thyroid peroxidase test is a test that measures the level of an antibody that is directed against thyroid peroxidase (TPO). Autoantibodies to thyroid peroxidase (TPOAb) are produced within the body.

Avatar n tn Those deficient in luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone are given estrogen, progesterone, or testosterone and those with hypoadrenalism (underactive adrenal gland), steroid replacement which must be started before thyroid replacement is begun. I am assuming your doctors have run test to rule out all related conditions before treating you with Synthroid for thyroid-stimulating hormone deficiency (hypothyroidism - High TSH - Low F/Ts).
Avatar n tn I think hot flushes should be given to men! ;-P I suffered greatly with hot flushes but, am going through some kind of imbalance somewhere, somehow and am seeking out help from a gynecologist for it. I've also had the weight gain...right around the mid-section. Grrrrrr. I think that most of us will say that the hot flushes and the weight gain are pretty annoying to say the least. Estrogen can cause weight gain but, can help with the hot flushes some.
Avatar n tn Her thyroid functions are normal as her TSH and FT4 is normal. She may not require any thyroid replacement as of now, but in view of high TPOab, she may require regular thyroid blood test and treatment if required. Your second daughter's report is relatively normal, except for T4 total. Free hormones are more reliable than total hormones. As her Free T4 is normal we can ignore the value of T4 total. TSH is a range and as long as it is within normal ranges nothing to be concerned.
489725 tn?1280052553 Synthroid and other thyroid hormone replacement meds can be taken for life (in the case where the thyroid is removed surgically or ablated by Radioactive Iodine). Often, though, the same meds are given to supplement a "sluggish" thyroid that doesn't produce what your body needs to have the proper metabolism. I'd keep a eye on your symptoms - the presence of the antibodies can mean more problems down the road with your thyroid levels.
Avatar n tn There is not a natural way to treat a truly underactive thyroid -- work with your doctor on finding the right dose of levothyroxine (an exact copy of the thyroid hormone your thyroid is not making enough of) -- if the dose is on target there are no long-term side effects of the medication.

Avatar f tn A couple of members here, including myself, watched Robin McGraw yesterday speak about bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Did you know that women as young as their teens can have hormonal imbalances ? And that you can show signs of perimenopause in your 20s... feel horrible and be misdiagnosed with chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia ? And yet the medical field has failed us again on this other issue.
