Common Questions and Answers about Hormone replacement for surgical menopause

Avatar n tn Cysts can technically develop at any age but are most common in perimenopausal women. Cysts are less common in post menopausal women unless they are on hormone replacement therapy. In any case, a cyst is a fluid filled structure and is benign. In contrast a complex cyst has septums or areas that appear solid. These are most often benign but may be removed to be certain that the solid components are benign as well.
Avatar f tn I read that the menopause systems are worse for women with having surgical menopause then entering it as a normal menopause. Thanks.
Avatar n tn i had a partial hysterectmy in 1992 i still have both my ovaries i have been to the dr and had a hormone test done and it was normal but i have all the symptoms of menopause except for the exctreme hotflases i have them but they are very very mild and not often, could i be going thru menopause?
Avatar f tn Could my symptoms all be related to low estrogen levels? I dont really want to go the hormone replacement route but am feeling so very very unwell after a very active life up until this point.
Avatar m tn Do you need hormone replacement after ovary removal in a 63 y.o. post-menopausal women?
Avatar f tn Are these studies only on women who have gone through natural menopause or do they also include women who were put into surgical menopause at a young age? I know the study talks about HRT that has progestin also but I am wondering what your thoughts are on all of this. When I asked my oncologist if he tested my borderline tumor to see if it was estrogen+ he said no that these tumors don't tend to be + so they don't test them.
Avatar f tn So its basically the same as most other bio-identical hormones, Im glad your choosing that route if you change meds please do not go for Premarine this is the first hormone replacement created not bio identical actually made from a pregnant hourses urine YUCK!! Most women get good results from hrt but the problem is it sometimes takes up to 5 trys to get the right combo for your anatomy you very well may need more than just estrogen.
Avatar m tn I am 48 and in menopause. I believe it is complete (or almost) as I have gone almost a year w/o a period and my hormone levels are low. I had an IUD (Mirena) removed a year and 8 months ago. Went several months with no period then had a short period at about 8 months and then had something between spotting and a period but only for 2 days and since have only had a little spotting after sex.
Avatar f tn symptoms have lessened but the migraines are as strong as ever. I take Femtrace as a hormone replacement. I have also taking others such as Estratest and some others that I just don't remember the names of. My migraines are frequent, sometimes several a week. I take Imetrex and an anti depressant for them. My question is can memopause usher in migraines as a side effect?
Avatar n tn I don't believe there is any relationship to menopause or hormone replacement therapy and RD. It's incidental as both become more common as a woman ages.
Avatar n tn ovaries, uterus, cervix, tubes all taken out back in October 2012. I am not on any hormone replacement therapy. I am still suffering from hot flashes and severe dryness everywhere. I am also getting a low grade temperature from time to time. Back around November, it was around 100-100.5 and they even did a cat scan and blood work to check for abscess. Nothing like that was going on. Everything was fine. The last few days I have noticed the hot flashes at night have gotten bad again.
Avatar n tn Surgical menopause is worse to go through than natural menopause by the way, so you would need hormone replacement if you loose them both, and just like p pills, they increase the risk of stroke (especially if you have a history or family history of it), breast cancer, etc, and you would need to try to balance the dose yourself if the dose or combination doesnt work for you. I would reckomend you read up on hormone replacement and chat your doctor about it.
Avatar f tn Hi - I just had labs: TSH = 1.42, T4 Free=0.9, and T3=3.2. These are completely in normal range. My TPA is 81 which is high (range is less than 35). I take a bioidentical hormone combo of T3/T4 compounded for me. Shouldn't this take my TPA levels into the normal range? I feel ok, though my hair is falling out in the shower, and am gaining weight. Then again, I am 49 so it could be menopause. I had a hysterectomy 8 years ago, but do not take progesterone or estrogen.
1445110 tn?1388209711 I am afraid and would like an opinion as to what to do. My doctor did recommend stronger hormone therapy for three months and repeat the biopsy. Or, up to me if I want a partial hysterectomy. Thank you for any opinion.
Avatar f tn One ovary will "carry the load" if you have the one that's causing you trouble removed. Good luck making your decision.
Avatar n tn Hi, Mary53 will come along soon, hopefully, and she is our resident expert. Yes you ARE, Mary! Personally, I am on the Climara low dose estrogen patch (bio-identical) and am doing well. I have an occasional hot flash at night but despite that, all is well. Since surgery in March (I'm in surgical menopause...which is what I think you meant to say...I hope there isn't an option for a NON surgical hysterectomy!
242604 tn?1328121225 This is a really important issue for many women. There is a range of experience with surgical menopause from just havign minor symptoms to being deeply troubled. symptoms can include the following: hot flashes insomnia vaginal dryness long term issues with osteoporosis. I am sure the forum menbes can add to this list if you google Surgical Menopause, you will find many sites that address this issue. I think a short term plan of estrogen replacement is fine.
Avatar f tn Hot flashes and night sweats Irritability, mood swings and depression Loss of libido and energy Trouble sleeping Urinary incontinence Vaginal dryness Weight gain (especially in the abdomen, hips and thighs) I am 54 and was thrown into surgical menopause 20 years ago. I used synthetic estrogen for 16 years. I tried to get off of it and wow did I get hit hard with menopause symptoms. So now I've been on bioidentical hormones for the last 4+ years.
Avatar f tn On September 29, 2009 I had a complete hystorectomy with a 10lb adnexal mass removed at MD Anderson. An intestinal type cancer of low malignant potential was found. I am waiting to be sceduled for an MRI & Colonoscopy. After my surgery I was prescribed Effexor for my mood swings and hot flashes. The doctor has continued to increase the dosage up to the highest = 150 mg per day. All it has done for me is turn me into a zombie.
Avatar f tn Surgical menopause has been terrible for me. I was 37 when I had my surgery and so I wasn't even close to menopause. That makes a difference. The younger you are, the more dramatic of a change in hormones. I wasn't able to take HRT due to cancer. I suspect that with HRT you won't notice the same changes. But, for me, I was having major hot flashes in the hospital within a day of my surgery. The hot flashes remained for many months and were extreme and frequent.
Avatar f tn hi if your ovaries where removed, that constitues a total hyster...no ovaries equals surgical induced menopause, thus the symptoms of hot flashes, sweats etc....speak with your dr about Bio identical hormone replacement therapy...stay away from premarine... above poster is right you need to have levels tested to get right hormones or combo,,,it seems to me that most..not all need estrogen only. feel better and call that DR!!!!!
Avatar f tn We would recommend against any form of hormone replacement therapy in women with hormone receptor positive cancer. Bioidentical or synthetic, it is still hormone therapy. In fact, the purpose of arimidex is to remove any estrogen that may be produced outside the ovaries. Research has shown that this significantly reduces the risk of recurrence.
1353379 tn?1278826800 This means your not producing the hormones your need. You might want to talk to your Dr about hormone replacement. This could really help with your sex life, sleepless nights, headaches and crying spells. I take a generic hormone because I had a complete hysterectomy. It's very inexpensive.
