Avatar f tn The thing is, these studies are on post menopausal women. I can see where taking a replacement hormone when your body should naturally not be making this hormone anymore could be bad and I wouldn't do it. But what about the people who were thrown into surgical menopause at a time their body would still be producing it?

Avatar f tn If you're taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) only for hot flashes, night sweats and insomnia, you may want to consider stopping the HRT. The symptoms you listed occur at the onset of menopause and go away over time. Long-term use of HRT is often used if you have or are at risk for osteoporosis. Discuss this option with your physician, if you have osteoporosis there are other medications to treat it.
Avatar f tn On September 29, 2009 I had a complete hystorectomy with a 10lb adnexal mass removed at MD Anderson. An intestinal type cancer of low malignant potential was found. I am waiting to be sceduled for an MRI & Colonoscopy. After my surgery I was prescribed Effexor for my mood swings and hot flashes. The doctor has continued to increase the dosage up to the highest = 150 mg per day. All it has done for me is turn me into a zombie.
Avatar n tn Im reading a lot of advice against the use of hormone replacement therapy, but the studies I have researched report that its the combination of progesterone and estrogen that is bad for you, and that estrogen alone may actually decrease the risk of breast cancer. My question then is has anybody else read any studies similar?
Avatar m tn These hormones are very important for normal functioning of our body and if there is a deficiency of these hormones it is important to take hormone replacement therapy to overcome this deficiency. Please relax HRT will not damage your brain but is essential at the moment for you.
Avatar m tn You can also increase the testosterone level by taking more of meat, salmon fish, yellow, red and green fruits and vegetables. Also, your doctor may prescribe hormone replacement therapy via intramuscular injections, testosterone patches or gels. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn Hello, After hysterectomy, hormone replacement therapy would consist of estrogen alone usually given daily by pill or sometimes weekly or biweekly skin patch. However hormonal replacement therapy should be given for a short time only as long term use may be associated with a small increase in breast cancer. In my opinion you should consult a gynecologist and start with hormone replacemenr therapy.

Avatar n tn s plenty of confusion about hormone replacement therapy, which is now commonly called hormone therapy. The truth is that hormone therapy is not a magical cure , but it's still the most effective treatment for unpleasant menopausal symptoms for most women. Estrogen remains the most effective treatment for relief of troublesome menopausal hot flashes and night sweats. It can also ease vaginal symptoms of menopause, such as dryness, itching, burning and discomfort with intercourse.
Avatar f tn Hi I read your last post and it asked about hormone replacement therapy , this is a different thing from hormone blocker pills as hormone replacement is just what it says it replaces the hormones lost after menopause and I believe that blockers are used to treat women that have hormone dependant cancers in that they block the hormones made in the body that feed the cancer .

Avatar f tn One additional thought: I don't know if you are taking hormone replacement therapy, but if you are, it might be something to discuss with your doctor. Hormone replacement therapy can raise the risk of an uncommon type of breast cancer fourfold after just three years, U.S. researchers reported in 2010. They found women who took combined estrogen/progestin hormone-replacement therapy for three years or more had four times the usual risk of lobular breast cancer.

Avatar f tn Hi I don't know how much this will help but I am coming from having hormone replacement to trying to get off of it and it's horrible. I am calling my doctor in the morning to start going back up. I had a hysterectomy when I was 26 and have been on premerin all these years. DO NOT get on premerin not matter what. It is a terrible drug. It worked for me for years but for other reasons I will not take it and nobody should. I am on Vivelle Dot.
Avatar f tn v recently read some information regarding traditional hypothyroidism which states that meds including synthroid and armour might be cancer-causing if used for life, and bio-identical thyroid hormone replacement is much safer for long-term use free of preservatives and binders and is all natural. It's actually a nutritional supplement not a med. What do you think?
