393685 tn?1425812522 Hi Stella, well maybe I can shed some light on your extra unwanted hair growth or at least give you some info that might help you out. I am a Electrologist (retired) so I know a little about this issue. I'm not sure how old you are but most women do in fact have unwanted hair growth but it isn't something you'll hear them talking about at your local Tupperware party so don't think your alone. If all women live long enough they are destined to get some kind of unwanted hair.
1208452 tn?1266336929 Hello, sorry to hear about your troubles. I too have a similar issue. I have accredited it to birth control. I recently went off and hoping to see a change. I also use medical marijuana for anxiety and both of those things have hair growth as a side effect. Do you use either of these things? I am thinking at your age you may very well be on birth control, but I don't know if you are. You might want to just step back and look at the whole picture, what has changed since the hair growth?
Avatar f tn One possibility is Polycystic ovary syndrome, a hormone imbalance condition that can cause irregular periods, unwanted hair growth and acne during adolescence and teenage. There could also be weight gain or trouble losing weight, patches of dark skin on the back of neck and other areas (called acanthosis nigricans) and mood swings.
Avatar f tn It may even lower your testosterone, which is the hormone responsible for the unwanted hair growth. If hormonal treatment--like birth control--does not seem to work, or only helps get rid of one or two of your symptoms, you may have to do things the old-fashioned way; namely, getting rid of unwanted hair by waxing it and losing weight by getting on a solid exercise schedule.
Avatar f tn I am an 18 year old asian girl with a fairly good diet- I am 45 kgs and 5 ft 5" tall. I used to have silky straight hair but since 4th grade I've had a bad case of dandruff (my skin is acne prone too). My hair type changed from super silky to voluminous and frizzy ( I have a thick head of hair). I've lived with this for alot of years now and I can control my acne, but recently (almost 2 years ago) my hair started changing in texture.
Avatar n tn That would be my first move. You could have a hormone imbalance that could be causing the hair growth. A lot of women suffer from hair growth. There are many hair removal methods that you can choose from, including waxing, tweezing, shaving or cream hair removal.
Avatar n tn I am starting to think I may be suffering from a hormone imbalance as my symptoms seem to go when I start my period. I also suffer from inability to sleep, mood swings cyclical depression, facial hair, hot flushes as well as cold and irregular periods, I am now having 2 periods a month, one really light and short and one a week later that is pretty severe....
Avatar f tn I feel your pain. I just turned 31 in december and I am having the same problem with all over hair growth (seems abnormal). I on the other hand have no idea what the cause or reason for this hair growth all over my body is due to. Most of it is all the fine light colored hair (full face, chest, back, shoulders etc). I had uterine fibroids removed via myomectomy (c section) about a year ago now but about three months after the surgery I went on birth control.
Avatar n tn Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome has to do with hormone balances, you don't always have to have trouble with insulin or weight gain or hair growth. I don't have insulin problems but I still have PCOS. It takes blood work to confirm PCOS. You can have polycystic ovaries and not have the hormone imbalance. It does not always mean you will have trouble conceiving. You never know until you try.
Avatar f tn See the growth cycle of hair is in two phases, anagen or growth phase and telogen or resting phase. During telogen, the resting hair remains in the follicle until it is pushed out by growth of a new anagen hair. In telogen effluvium, a large number of hair enter telogen at one time. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn As a teen, I shaved it a couple times and wish I had just left it alone. If you feel that you have excessive hair growth, then you can make a doctor's appointment to make sure that you don't have a hormone imbalance. Otherwise, either leave it alone or you can try hair removal creams if you wish. Hope it all goes well.
Avatar f tn If your levels are high, you may have the unwanted side affects of excess hair or other male characteristics. This is something to follow with PCOS.
Avatar f tn m asking is that do any of you think that these symptoms could be caused by extreme hormone imbalance? No one has ever tested my hormones before. I find it weird that they all started almost a month to the day I quit birth control. Also, my period was never regular when I was younger, I matured late and would sometimes go 6 months without getting my period. I was also anorexic during high school which didn't help. But I am no longer and eat very healthy.
Avatar f tn Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance. Correcting the hormone imbalance may stop your hair loss. Many women notice hair loss about 3 months after they've had a baby. This loss is also related to hormones. During pregnancy, high levels of certain hormones cause the body to keep hair that would normally fall out.
Avatar f tn Unless my hormones have changed since I turned 30? What type of hormone imbalance are there and does imbalance always show up on tests? 3. Is fluocinonice topical solution safe? Can it make TE worse or cause more hair to fall out? 4. Any other tests or doctors specializing in hair loss? 5. I had an allergic reaction which caused hives and rednessback in Sept 2010. Allergist had no explanation. I have no known allergies. Could that be indicative of something thats going on?
Avatar n tn The genes primarily determine the amount, patterns and thickness of chest hair. Some men are very hairy, while others have no chest hair at all. Each pattern of hair growth is normal. The density of the hair (in hair follicles per square centimeter) thickness of the hair, color of the hair, speed of hair growth, and qualities such as curliness, vary from one part of the body to another, and from one person to another.

747152 tn?1240320709 Blood tests show I am low in human growth hormone, insulin growth factor, testosterone and DHEA. My Dr. thinks this is "nothing to worry about" but its quite obvious to me "this nothing to worry about" tumor is reaking havic in my body and causing the hormonal imbalance. My hair continues to thin and I have patches where you can see my scalp. I feel & look HORRIBLE and I'm just not myself, I look in the mirror and wonder who that person is looking back at me....
Avatar f tn Hi, I have a fibroadenoma in my right breast with size 7*9mm(this was a month ago). One year ago, when it was first discovered, it was 7*8.9mm, so almost the same. I also have hormonal imbalance, and I discovered it when I visited a endocrinologist with my two problems. The results of my analyses are these: These hormones were in normal range - Antibodies to thyroid peroxidase Anti - TPO (6.34 IU/ml), PRL-prolactin(210.5 mlU/l), Testosteron (1.43 nmol/l), Cartisol(blood) (424.
Avatar n tn m not a doctor (nor do I play one on TV) but from all that I have read, hypertension, anxiety, depression and hair loss could lead to a hormone imbalance caused by your thyroid. Have they tested your Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies? That would show if it is a thyroid issue.
