Avatar m tn From what I have read so far, they suggest whey protein isolate over whey protein concentrate. They say isolate has more protein but from natural factors website, it's suggested that isolate are treated with heat and are somewhat denatured. NaturalFactros also say this is why isolate is poor quality than whey protein concentrate. Now both contradict one another. But I believe concentrate is better since it is treated with less heat and other chemical process etc. What do you think?

Avatar m tn With weight gainers, just keep an eye out for high sugars. Some of them are packed with 80+ grams. Look for one with more complex carbohydrates, quality proteins, and good fats. Some have added flax seed oil, CLA, sunflower oil. Also, it's more expensive but try to get one with a higher protein blend of whey isolate. Most are a mix of whey concentrate and soy. The isolate is way lower in cholesterol and digests easier.

Avatar m tn I have an under active thyroid, have been using whey protein isolate religiously, and my hair is just fine. Your statement is not backed up by science, and you seem to have chosen not to look at a variety of other reasons why your hair fell out. The thyroid can switch from being hypo, to hyper. If this occurred, it could easily have resulted in some hair loss. However, that is just one of a number of reasons you may have lost your hair.

Either way as I have aged I found out I have to take a little Lactaid with certain kinds of protein from dairy otherwise I get bloated and experience physical discomfort. Never happened in my life until I hit 49. Maybe as an experiment you could try the Lactose Free version of the Instant Breakfast and see it that makes a difference.
Avatar m tn This exact same thing happened to me whenever I took Whey Protein, concentrate or isolate. I wrote a thread about this last summer and everyone called me crazy, but I knew what it was stemming from so I stopped taking Whey altogether. I got very depressed because I figured, how can I get big and strong and meet my goals if I can't use whey to grow. Well low and behold I found out there were other types of protein out there and Whey is just one of them.

Avatar m tn I think that the MSG(referred to as hydrolysed whey protein isolate on the label) is the culprit...I have read a bunch of articles stating that it is an excitotoxin and can cause Glutamate-Gaba imbalance....i've also notice that when I eat foods high in glutamic acid (chicken, eggs, tomatoes, etc) my situation becomes worse...how long will it take for my system to get it out of there and make me a normal person again? is there a way to flush it out faster?

Avatar n tn s no doubt a good quality protein supplement will help build bigger muscles -- the best is a good whey protein isolate, but there might be a reaction to the dairy -- but yes, you might pay a price. It depends of what you prefer, big muscles or health. The workout is fine, but taking any supplement that exaggerates intake of any nutrient so you get bigger muscles from that workout could lead to problems way down the road.
Avatar n tn And the fuller you feel between meals, the easier it is to avoid binge eating. A daily whey protein shake with either berries or a banana and ice and water will help keep the hunger away. I recommend buying whey CONCENTRATE not isolate!! concentrate is healthier. when dieting you can't just lose weight at your belly or back. google exercises for the core. when exercising do your strength training first and cardio last.
Avatar n tn As a result of my hypothyroidism, I have developed and eating disorder over the years which I am finally working on. My nutritionist, who I do like, wants me to drink whey protein shakes (1 per day) to get my protein levels up. A friend of mine with hypo told me to STOP drinking them, and considering I am on new medication (Armour-2 grains) and gaining weight with recurring hypo symptoms (please, do not tell me to eat less, I am eating under 1300 calories a day), she may be right.
