Common Questions and Answers about Hormone free supplements

hormone

Avatar n tn Is TSH the only thing your doctor is testing? TSH is a pituitary hormone and should not be used alone, to diagnose a thyroid condition or determine a medication dosage. You should ask to get Free T3 and Free T4 tested. Those are the actual thyroid hormones, with Free T3 being most important, because it's the hormone used by the individual cells. Free T4 is a "storage hormone and must be converted to Free T3. Do you know if you have Hashimoto's?
487969 tn?1249313291 Selenium is a mineral used to that can assist on helping the conversion process with the Free T4 into Free T3 to help the thyroid absorb the mineral and disburse through the hormones. Normally if you have no conversion problem - selenium is not really needed. Again - this is a hypoT situation. Starting a mineral supplement must be understood by the patient. Toxic situations can happen. You must know what you are going into prior to dosing.
Avatar f tn When you look back at your 6/20 levels, and compare to current, there has not been much change in your Free T4 and Free T3 levels. We previously explained that it is quite common for levels to not change very much at the beginning, until meds are raised enough. Your symptoms are due to your Free T3 and Free T4 still being too low. So, you need to get your doctor to continue to raise your meds, as necessary to relieve those symptoms.

Avatar f tn A healthy affectionate communication with the partner helps in decreasing anxiety and stress. Also get hormone replacement therapy in the form of pills or patches prescribed. Moreover causes need to be ruled out. These include anemia, diabetes and hormonal imbalance. Some investigations which need to be done are follicle stimulating hormone levels, estradiol, thyroxine and thyrotrophin levels in the blood test reports.
Avatar f tn What are your thyroid hormone (Free T4 and Free T3) levels, with reference ranges? What dosage of levothyroxine are you on and how long have you been on it? What other blood tests are you waiting for?
Avatar f tn And as stated above if you are low on hormone, the ONLY way to increase it is to add hormone in. And since you cannot get actual hormone without a prescription, I'm afraid the options are limited. That being said. Many of the symptoms of hypo are also common to being deficient in some other vitamins and minerals. And THAT is something you can do about.
Avatar m tn TSH is good for diagnostics, but not necessary... T3 uptake is an indirect measure of the T4, which you did. Looking at the T3 uptake, one would believe that your T4 is over range, but your Total T4 is clearly not over range. Total T4 shows the total amount of T4 that's in your blood. Of the total T4, most is bound by protein and can't be used.
Avatar f tn I would recommend you again be tested for Thryoid. Do you know in the past when you were tested for thyroid if you were being tested for hormones beyond the simple (and nearly worthless) TSH? In order to truly get a picture on you thyroid status it is critical to be tested SPECIFICALLY for the following two tests: 1) Free T4 - This test differes from the outdated and obsolete "total" T4 test.
Avatar m tn Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is hormone that is naturally produced in our bodies and decreases after the age of 30. It serves as a pre-curser for the sex hormones, androgen and estrogen. There is evidence in support of the use of DHEA for help with adrenal insufficiency, depression, and lupus; however; there are no studies of long term effects. DHEA may increase the risk of prostate, breast, or any hormone sensitive cancers and it is recommended only to be taken under the supervision of a MD.
Avatar n tn My guess would be the cytomel since my Free T3 is low and my Free T4 is normal?? but the problem is then my TSH drops?? and then I get symptomatic, my hair starts falling out and I get real anxious, night sweats, etc??
Avatar m tn s Thyroiditis) The third is for Hyperthyroid Autoimmune Graves Disease, Free T3 is the active thyroid hormone, Free T4 is the Thyroid Hormone (Pre Conversion) and TSH Is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. Note: Do not let the MD just do the TSH alone, this is a Piyuitary Hormone, Not a thyroid hormone. If you get these tests completed, request a copy of the results, including the reference ranges with each level, then post them here and members will explain results to you and advise.
Avatar f tn 1 normal. Thyroxine, Free (FT4) 1.27 normal. Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) 1.93 normal. Lastly Vitamin B-12, 1326 High. High antibodies, normal thyroid, no hormones, high B-12, and all these symtoms. Where do we start? What is recommended?
Avatar f tn One study found OTC thyroid supplements containing detectable levels of active thyroid hormone. Popular Over-the-Counter Thyroid Supplements Contain Actual Thyroid Hormone... "Surprisingly, nine out of ten supplements showed detectable amounts of T3, ranging from 1.3 mcg to 25.4 mcg per tablet. Taken at the recommended dosage, five of the ten supplements delivered T3 quantities in excess of 10 mcg/day, and four delivered T4 quantities ranging from 8.57 to 91.6 mcg/day.
Avatar f tn There are no known foods, herbs or so called "all natural" supplements that contain any Hormone. And the FDA here in the USA prohibits the sale of supplements with any measurable amount of hormone in it. So the bottom line is. If you are not producing enough Thyroid hormone from your own thyroid gland, then the ONLY way to get additional hormone for your body to use is by Dr. prescription medication. PERIOD.
Avatar f tn TSH is a pituitary hormone that is affected by so many variables that it is at best an indicator, to be considered along with more important indicators, such as symptoms, as well as levels of the actual, biologically active thyroid hormone, free T3 and free T4. Free T4 is the most important test because it is four times as active as FT4, plus studies have shown that FT3 correlates best with hypo symptoms. Note that FT3 and FT4 are not the same as total T3 and total T4.
Avatar f tn As this proceeds, the output of thyroid hormone is diminished and the Free T4 and free T3 levels drop and the TSH rises. In order to relieve symptoms thyroid med is prescribed. A good thyroid doctor will treat a hypo patient clinically by testing and adjusting Free T3 and Free T4 as needed to relieve symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH levels.
