Avatar f tn I have decided to do smoothies for breakfast and have been told that I need protein in my smoothies to counteract the sugar from the fruit. I was wondering if I should just add greek yogurt or if I should purchase a protein powder. My goal is to lose weight so I don't want a powder that is for muscle building. Any suggestions?
971283 tn?1247767572 low carbs, low sugar, mostly veggies but use whey protein bars AND whey protein powder for my high protein diet. I find that I am putting on weight and the pain in the finger joints is quite bad right now. What did you do to reverse this ? Should I just stop this protein intake ?
Avatar f tn Is Protein powder safe during pregnancy?if yes is there a specific type that I should use. I am a vegan.

Avatar f tn Does anyone know anything about protein powder and whether or not its safe to keep drinking? Doctor wont answer questions till my first appointment :( just found out im about 5 weeks pregnant.
Avatar f tn Hi, I need help to choose good protein powder. I don't get enough protein from my food. I'm exercising 4-5 times a week at least one hour in the gym ( some days classes and some days cardio). My friend recommended to buy protein powder to build muscles and lose more weight. I have been reading a lot that 100% and most natural whey powder is really good but there are so many different ones and I don't know what to choose. Can you help me please?
1415174 tn?1453243103 I am vegan and use a vegan protein powder to supplement 20 grams extra a day. So my total protein is about 75-80 grams (not 95g). I read that you can get too much growth hormone (which is good for building muscle) but it creates insulin like growth factor (ILGF). Too much ILGF can potentially cause cancer. So that is what I am asking. What has anyone read about this.
2030686 tn?1351688548 I got so hooked on rice milk and powdered protein that I still have one daily. They're a great treat AND source of protein. I like the protein powder that uses chick pea for the protein source. Seems less nauseating to me. I'm sorry you have allergies. When you're already sick, the limitations don't help. Have you tried quinoa? It's kind of like rice in that it's flavorless, but it packs a lotta protein and is lighter than rice. Best to ya.
Avatar m tn what do you think about grain protein powder? is protein the only requirement to gain weight?
Avatar f tn Split peas contain 16 g protein per serving, spinach has 13 and chickpeas have 8 g protein/serving. Avocados have 1 g protein per ounce. A medium peach has 2 g protein and 149 grams of dried figs have 5 g protein. I love avocado smoothies, but avocados have a lot of calories, so you have to watch that. Peaches would be okay. You can make a smoothie using soy milk, and sugar free chocolate pudding mix, but the only protein you'd get is from the soy milk.
Avatar n tn protein drinks and whey protein drinks aren't bad for growing boys. protein is the fastest way to spur muscle growth. i don't know what part of the world you live in, but you can find both of those products at Trader Joe's if that market is availible to you. If not you can find them at pretty much any health food store, major supermarket, or vitamin shop. some gyms like equinox sell those products also.
Avatar f tn Yea I'd try to avoid the protein powder and get the protein I need from the food I eat. I'm a vegetarian so I get my protein from tofu and other foods made from soy, beans, nuts, and dairy products. You don't know all the ingredients in the protein powder so I'd ask my doctor about it.
172023 tn?1334672284 Multigrain Eng muffin with 1/2 cup scrambled egg beaters (made into a sandwich) 5. Smoothie: mix 1 cup skim milk with 1 banana and 1/3 cup fat free vanilla yogurt. Add a packet of splenda if you must. I often add a scoop of protein powder to this.
Avatar n tn You really need more information. TSH is notoriously unreliable for much of anything although most Dr's seem to swear on this being the holy grail. You also really need to get tested for the FREE form of the thyroid hormones. If the lab report only shows T4 then it is for "total" and not FREE. There is a significant difference. The Free hormone is unattached and therefore "free" of a protein. Once a protein attaches itself to the hormone it becomes useless.
10389360 tn?1410823968 There r some really good organic powder shakes just make sure that its approved for pregnancy cause some of the powder protein shakes have metals in them whic can harm ur baby id used on a daily babes. Avatar f tn m not much of a breakfast person but I do love fruit smoothies and I hear that adding protein powder to a shake in the morning could be a good solution. Has anyone ever tried this or known anyone else who has? Really would like to know if its okay.
Avatar f tn I usually use whey protein powder mixed with water or sometimes almond milk, and I find it very easy on my system, easy for my body to digest and absorb (instead of eating a high-in-protein steak). I also sometimes use a plant based protein powder, but I find whey protein dissolves very easily in water compared to plant based proteins. I don't eat mammals, but I'm aware beef protein powder exists but it is not on the menu for me.
Avatar m tn 1 or 4:1 ratio of carbohydrates to protein may help promote optimal recovery, as protein can help build and repair muscle tissue, leading to weight and muscle gain. Vitamins C and E may help. The health benefits when consumed individually, some research suggests that combining the two supplements may help you gain weight.
Avatar f tn Do any of you ladies use protein powder for protein shakes? If so, which kind do you use? I bought the chocolate Special K brand protein shake but after reading the label more carefully I am not sure this is safe to drink. I was hoping to find a premade protein shake or a powder that mixes easily with chocolate milk. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn One of my favorite smoothies is a a scoop of protein powder, 1 serving (1/2-1 cup) plain fat free Greek yogurt, 1 Haas avocado, 1/2 cup water, lime juice to taste. Blend and enjoy. Yes, avocado has fat in it, but your body requires a certain amount... opt, mostly, for the monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and you'll be fine. I'm also going to try the recipe above, using 1/2 cup pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling, but regular pumpkin) in place of the avocado and lime juice.
Avatar n tn YES. it is very common for people with out of balance thyroid to have anxiety and also depression. Interestingly, these are two symptoms that seem to not be specific as to whether too high or too low of thyroid as anxiety in particular can be present in either condition. Have you had thyroid levels checked? IF so please post your results. If not be sure when you go in to DEMAND that Free T3 and Free T4 be tested.
Avatar n tn Your thyroid produces the hormone T4 which is converted mostly by the liver, although on its way it comes into contact with protein, some is carried away by this protein, what gets converted is Free T4, after conversion, the contact with protein occurs again, some T3 is carried away, once it contacts protein, it is not usable by the bodies cells, so what is left is Free T3, the active hormone your body functiosn by, when ths hormone is low, your body slows down (Decreased Metabolism) The Pituita
Avatar m tn What is 1300? If that is TSH. That would indicate that you have LOW thyroid. Or Hypo thyroid. TSH is a hormone that is telling your thyroid to turn on and produce thyroid hormone. So with such a high number your pituitary gland is BEGGING your thyroid to produce hormone. But apparently for whatever reason your thyroid is not hearing this or can not produce the hormone. You really need more blood tests to tell us more. First though, what symptoms are you having?
Avatar f tn I found a vegetable based protein powder in the health food section of the market by Naturade. It is Soy-free and dairy-free. I make smoothies every morning with this. I also found Hemp Milk at Whole Foods which is completely dairy, soy and salt free, in addition to salt free soups, chicken broth and other quick prep stuff. The diet is extremely restricted, but it's only for a limited time and for a very, very good reason.
