I am a 36 year old female. 2.5 years ago I gave birth two twins. about 1 year ago I got a hormone IUD as contraception. Today I received my diagnosis of Hasimoto Thyriditis. Bloodwork came back values of FT3 3.51 pg/ml FT4 0.94 ng/100ml TSH 2.39 mU/l TPO 199 U/ml FT3 and FT4 were inthe normal range. TSH also, but in the upper normal range. The TPO was of course very positive.

I know from my past experiences that it was normal for me. For instance I just went off the Mirena IUC and I clotted a lot. I think she should just keep an eye on it and keep tabs on how many pads she is soaking each day. If it seems like too many you might check with the doctor.

its also safe to have while ur nursing if u plan on nursing u need to make sure ur bc is hormone free. If ur not nursing then u have alot more options.. i think there is also i procedure for men to which is easliy reversible. I have one child who is 2.5 and one due in 28 days and we are totally done after this!

thyroid antibodies would be good to test in addition to Free T3 and Free T4. Good luck!

I am on Pristiq, Flonase and have a Mirena IUC. I am also a medical marijuana patient, though I only medicate at night, after 7 and about a half gram of dried flower a night. I have had loose, frequent stools with mild abdominal pain for 2 months. Food/changing diet has little effect. I get tired/fatigued/bruised and achy easily [sometimes I feel like I can hardly move I'm so tired and sore!

I have enjoyed having this IUC so much that I didnt realize my 5 years were up!! I should have had it replaced 4 months ago!! OMG! How at risk am I of being pregnant? Or does this device really last longer than 5 years? I'm totally stressed now!! In any case no more sex for us until I get another device..

She said that there are not going to be any pill birth controls that will not be affected. But and IUC such as Mirena is not affected by the medication. It will be painful to place but no babies so that is good.

74/ About 5 weeks later my TSh is 1.73 Free t3 is 2.7 nad the Free T4 is 1.04 I have been off and off the snythoird her eand ther not taking it regular missed a week, since my it was making me feel terrible nad the dr had me go off for a week. I am now getting all kinds of viral infecitons, does snythorid play in that?> It looks to me like myabe I need more Free T3 I am going to ask him about that and maybe taking a natrual form like armor that has both t3 and t4.

I'm new to this stuff, but I had my mirena IUC in for 4 1/2 years with no periods at all the whole time and it fell out 4 weeks ago and I've had a lot of unprotected sex since then! I had very very light spotting two days after it fell out for only a day but nothing since then! Took two hpt one negative and one positive! Then I went to my local planned parenthood and had them test me and that was negative! Has anyone gotten pregnant immediately after the mirena was out?!? Please help!!!!

A doctor must always look at the free T4 and free T3 thyroid hormone levels. He should consider them significant when both are below the mid-point of their reference ranges in a symptomatic patient, and they certainly represent hypothyroidism when both in the lower third of their population ranges, regardless of the TSH.

Depends on the blood test. One only looks for the hormone and one tests the exact amount in your blood. (can't remember the exact names of them at the moment though) The first one can be wrong, while the other is rarely wrong unless a lab error was done.

I had the Mirena IUC inserted in Nov 07 & a year later, I had an odor appear after my period in Nov 08. I got a prescription of Metronidazole & it cleared it up. This was at the same time of my yearly exam & nothing showed up in the lab work. The odor didn't come back until six months later, in June 09 after my period. I got another prescription & it cleared it up. The same goes for the next month, July 09.

I felt amazing after taking the Levothyroxine (50mcg once daily) but began feeling really run a few weeks later so she ordered a full work up and included the TSH within Reflex to FT4 and free T3. Comparing the results, they both lowered TSH w/reflex is now 1.73 and my free T3 is 2.9. Per labs this is still within normal range albeit the lower end for Free T3. My doctor is out of the office for the week and I thought to come here for some insight as I am completely new to this.

About 13 months ago I had surgery to remove a pituitary tumor and I am now on full hormone replacement. For the most part my recovery has gone great. However, I believe I do have problems with either the dosage (.125mg) of my thyroid hormone or the drug itself (levoxyl). I have an endocrinologist that has been with me since the surgery and they refuse to change anything because my T4 level is in the "normal" range at 1.5.

i was told my labs showed a free ts4 of only 7 but my tsh was within normal--my question is,,,can that low free ts4 cause symptoms or no because the tsh was within norm low but normal,,i seem to have symptoms and one clinic doc said we could try sinthroid at low dose-but fam doc and internest that was looking into my heart palpitations said no-- your normal no need for meds just keep an eye on it..what do you guys think???

So the TSH is 197- no decimal point? WOW! I think the link I sent you talks about free vs. total testosterone. Hopefully someone else here has been through the hormone testing and can give you better advice. I just know what I learn in the lab and don't have personal experience with these tests. It's complicated!

I suggest you should go ahead with the hormone therapy. it has proven to be effective - it decreases the disease free interval, the survival rate and decreases the chances of recurrence and spread of cancer. Do keep us posted on how you are doing. Good luck and best wishes.

A good thyroid doctor will treat a hypothyroid patient clinically, for symptoms, by testing and adjusting Free T4 and Free T3 levels as needed to relieve hypo symptoms. Symptom relief should be all important, not just test results. You can read all about this in the following link.
