Avatar n tn iud's are also effective. (i had the mirena prior to ortho tri) they're good for 5 years and they're simply inserted into the cervix. you can actually check for the strings yourself to make sure it's still there. i do know with mirena you have to have had at least one child. i'm not sure about paraguard though. the only reason i had my mirena removed (i had it for 15 months) was b/c i was in that rare 5% that have the side affects.
Avatar f tn Wondering how long after do you stop taking to contraception pill can you fall pregnant? I've Heard stories about people falling pregnant whilst on it and I know that the pill isn't 100% anyways.. Just when your trying it doesn't seem to work.. Are you more fertile after coming off it or less ? Or doesn't change? I've been on the pill for almost 2 years now after having my first child but was never originally on it.
896114 tn?1241617023 I got my IUD shortly after I had my son back in fall/winter of 2008. I only had one issue where I expelled LARGE clots and I mean LARGE. However, I'm an on-going case of other issues that contribute to that and it only happened once.
Avatar f tn Not a great idea, but doable. A better idea might be to start a completely new pack the week before he gets home. You might bleed a bit from the drop in hormone levels, since you're on a triphasic pill, but you should be bleeding free and protected when he gets home. If you plan on needing to skip periods, you should consider getting a monophasic pill. With those, you can just start a new pack after 3 weeks (don't take the reminder pills), and not get your period.

Avatar f tn ParaGard is a hormone free form of birth control. It's a copper IUD.
247052 tn?1260950058 I have just got back from my first appointment with my gynae and she told me that contraception such as the pill regulates your period. Other contraception such as the injection and the coil which is what i had can actually stop your periods and it can take up to a year for them to become more regular. therefore your contraception could have stopped your periods or certainly interferred with them making them less regular. Also remember it can also take along time to exit your system.
Avatar n tn http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show/4612/Hormone-based-contraceptives There are other pages referenced which will give you more information about other forms of contraception as well. The two of you should decide together on what form of birth control will be the best choice for you. Issues to consider are: cost, ease of use and effectiveness. I wish you long life and happiness. Avatar n tn Hello, Missing two pills and the use of antibiotics can affect the efficacy of the pills. If you miss your periods then you can test 1 week- 10 days after you miss your periods or you can test for pregnancy by a highly sensitive pregnancy test 10 days post ovulation with a sensitive ( 20 - 25 mIU ) pregnancy test. Also I would suggest you to get your serum HCG levels estimated since this is more specific than urine for pregnancy tests.

Avatar n tn What kind of contraception did you take? There are two main kinds- the birth control pill and the emergency contraception pills. A regular birth control pill is usually a small amount of hormone such as estrogen or progesterone that will help regulate and prevent pregnancy. However, this form needs to be taken every day around the same time and at least 3 weeks before it's at least 96% effective at preventing pregnancy.
Avatar f tn s advice as I am unable to use latex due to allergic reactions. Hormone contraception also is a NONO as it causes the Lupus to flare severly. 4 months ago I had my old IUD removed as it was time to change it. I had bad sharp stabbing lower abdominal pain and severe cramping and bleeding as well as a very bad smelling odour coming from my vagina. The gynie said that it was an infection caused by the IUD. I was IUD free and period pain free for 2months while the infection was settled and treated.
556492 tn?1264551280 ve been looking for all the different types of contraception options over the internet but i swear not all the options were there. could anyone tell me for sure what they all are? i want to start using one and the implant always seemed like a good idea.. no way of getting pregnant, lasts 2 years, no period, it's free..... amongst other reasons.
Avatar m tn s all a matter of timing. If the embryo managed to implant before the hormone levels in your system went up, then it won't work. That's why they give a 72-hour window.
627145 tn?1230305626 I need to get contraception that is hormone-free, so I believe I want an IUD. I've always seen my internal medicine doctor for pelvic exams, so I'm not established with a gynecologist. I tried to find a gynecologist who was taking new patients, but it's really hard to find one! Or if they are, the next appointment is in April. I need birth control now. Isn't there some way to get in quickly and get the IUD in the first visit and then maybe one follow up and be done with it?
Avatar f tn It took ages for mine to return. About 3mths after I stopped bf! I was worried but nothing was wrong, my body just took that long. If you've stopped bf and you're worried there is a blood test the dr can do to test your hormone levels, otherwise bf delays your period but does not always stop it so still use contraception.
Avatar n tn thyroid antibodies would be good to test in addition to Free T3 and Free T4. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Pregnancy occurs the moment of conception during sex. In order to prevent pregnancy you either have to abstain from sex or use contraception before sex occurs (i.e. hormone drugs, condoms, iud). Anything to 'prevent' pregnancy after sex is abortion. It isn't prevention at that point, it's termination.
Avatar f tn s advisable to use a non-medicinal backup method of contraception (condom, diaphragm, etc.) while taking antibiotics.
746098 tn?1232912961 i went into the doctors 2 wks ago and took a test, the test was negative, the nurse told me to come back two weeks later if the symptoms persisted. that maybe the hormone wasnt high enough yet, that and i had peed like 10 times before i went there. if anyone has ever been pregnant, or know anything else this could be, please help. im scared and dont know whats going on.
