Avatar f tn I also think I am less healthy because of the effects of lack of hormones. I have tried to combat the side effects and did remain hormone free, but now I wonder if I made the right choice. I didn't anticipate having to deal with all of these other health issues so soon. Then again, maybe HRT wouldn't have made a difference. But, it sure does feel like a no win situation. It is hard to know which choice is bad and which one is worse.
Avatar n tn s breast cancer is Estrogen receptive, Tamoxifen or other similar drugs would work against the effects of estrogen on these cells. It is often called an “anti-estrogen.” As a treatment for breast cancer, the drug slows or stops the growth of cancer cells that are present in the body. As adjuvant therapy, tamoxifen helps prevent the original breast cancer from returning and also helps prevent the development of new cancers in the other breast. The cost of Tamoxifen varies, depending where you live.
Avatar n tn Soy has estrogen like effects... have you tried drinking vanilla soymilk? You might want to get your thyroid function tested to make sure it is just the lack of (I think) progesterone that is causing your weight gain and not hypothyroidism.
Avatar n tn Lymph nodes clear. After surgery had mammosite. Should I do hormone therapy? I also had ovarian cancer 2 yrs. ago. Stage 1A also. Doing well here. Took chemo for OV. and left me with aching legs and joints. The hormone therapy has so many side affects. The drugs suggested for me are Arimidex or Raloxifene. Is there anyone that does not take hormone therapy and is still doing well with no recurrance?
Avatar f tn t involve hormones (such as condoms and foam or an IUD), to let your body go back to its normal hormone cycles. Do this for two or three months and see if your cycles regulate, and how you feel. Keep a journal, it will help you see patterns. Then see how you're doing with the symptoms you list.
Avatar f tn I was placed on HRT - estrogen and estrogen vagina cream. I was 23 and had a 14 month old baby girl at home and needless to say it was a very difficult time. Reach out to family and friends for support. Baby yourself, rest and try to relax. Look into alternatives to estrogen and dont stop until you find something that works for you. You are still young and have many more years ahead. I'd suggest looking into naturopathy for alternatives.
Avatar f tn Hello, After hysterectomy, hormone replacement therapy would consist of estrogen alone usually given daily by pill or sometimes weekly or biweekly skin patch. However hormonal replacement therapy should be given for a short time only as long term use may be associated with a small increase in breast cancer. In my opinion you should consult a gynecologist and start with hormone replacemenr therapy.
Avatar f tn FSH, LH, estrogen, progesterone, androgens and prolactin. If they are found to be in menopausal levels then, hormone replacement therapy will help a lot. Even if the ovaries are not removed, post hysterectomy many women suffer from such symptoms. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
492898 tn?1222243598 Laboratory tests are performed after surgery or biopsy to determine if the breast cancer cells are hormone receptor positive. Hormone receptor positive breast cancer is depended on estrogen hormone for multiplication and growth and it is rational to block the hormones on which the tumor cells are feeding. Contrary to many people’s belief; hormonal therapy is a more effective form of breast caner adjuvant therapy compared to chemotherapy.

Avatar m tn I have been experiencing low testosterone myself and I have read a great deal on the importance of testosterone in the male. My male dog is fixed. He is 3 years old and seems very healthy. But i've begun to worry about his testosterone levels and how it effects his health. Is there a natural way to support my dogs testosterone levels. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn The side effects of Incurin (estradiol) are similar to the effects of any other reproductive hormone therapy and include: hair loss, swollen vulva, swollen mammary glands, and vomiting. The most serious effect from high doses is that estrogen (the active ingredient in Incurin) may have a tumour-promoting effect in target organs with estrogen receptors, such as the mammary gland. The most dangerous effect of PPA (phenylpropanolamine) is hypertension.
Avatar f tn My organs were removed and it put my life into a tailspin. A prescription for estrogen would likely help quite a bit. It has for me. Unfortunately, doctors may say you don't need estrogen but any time part of the reproductive system (uterus, ovary) is removed, it can cause a loss if hormones. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Avatar n tn My new doctor recommended me to have a salivary test to test hormone levels/cortisol/dhea. The results show what she called estrogen deficiency and high cortisol levels. progestrone level is okay. She said that I could try "natural" estrogen cream but I have tried bioidentical progestrone cream before and this brought on bleeding again just after 3 days of use. I also experienced giddiness with it use.
1002364 tn?1250107254 yeah wanabb is right but I do know that cafinee and diferent things like that can effect pcos which effects the estridol or estrogen hormone. Do you have PCOS? Why were you asking? PCOS tends to have estrogen dominance but only cause you may not ovulate then you never get the progesterone you need becasue you did not ovulate. If you have had an US to show and blood work to show you are ovulating it is usually not an issue of estrogen dominance though.
Avatar n tn I read that a c-section can throw off hormone levels. Maybe there is a connection between female hormone levels and neuropathy.

Avatar f tn Have you heard of Vagifem? It's a non-systemic hormone that is just used vaginally, not a pill, or a systemic estrogen. For years after having a complete hysterectomy, I was on a gel, Estragel or something like that, where you rubbed the gel on your arm. I was told it was safer than an oral estrogen or shots or patches because it didn't have to pass as much drugs through the liver.
Avatar m tn In particular, hormones added to meats and poultries can inhibit testosterone production while encouraging the production of estrogen, which is the female hormone. Elevated levels of estrogen in men cause them to take on more feminine characteristics. In fact, when estrogen levels in men are higher than they should be, it can bring about a whole slew of unwanted and potentially dangerous side effects.
Avatar m tn My doc did not go over the side effects of these but when I looked up Duavee it looked like hormone meds had severe side effects, one being particularly important to women, the increased risk of uteurus cancer. I guess I read that some take progestins with it to help decrease the risks of uterus cancer, but on the warning it says not to mix any additional estrogens or progestins together. Are these meds worth the benefits over the cons? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Avatar f tn I am recovering from a hysterctomy due to uterine cancer. My oncologist said he will wait a YEAR to start hormone treatment. I told him I only want to be put on bioidentical therapy. He said "no estrogen is a good estrogen" so I am confused. I feel a year is much too long to wait. I have hot flashes all day. am jumpy and nervous and feel like I weigh 1000 pounds. What should I do now? I am 74 and only have social security and my medical insurance.
Avatar n tn Im reading a lot of advice against the use of hormone replacement therapy, but the studies I have researched report that its the combination of progesterone and estrogen that is bad for you, and that estrogen alone may actually decrease the risk of breast cancer. My question then is has anybody else read any studies similar?

Avatar m tn 35 Based on the results of these studies, a formula called Super MiraForte was developed that combines chrysin, nettle root, muira puama, piperine, and other nutrients that showed the most potent effects in boosting free testosterone and suppressing estrogen in aging men. For those who would prefer to avoid testosterone-boosting and estrogen-suppressing drugs, four capsules a day of Super MiraForte may be considered.
