Diet is the biggest factor in weight loss, and exercise helps out a lot too. I'm reading a great book by Jillian Michaels - Master Your Metabolism. I haven't completed it yet, but it seems good so far. Also, there's another book I've read which was very informative and helpful. It's named The Thyroid Diet by Mary J Shomon.
Avatar n tn Some people do great counting calories, some do good on the Atkins plan or the Paleo-Diet, but exercise is a must and you want to get a good bill of health from your doctor before you get after it. Eating times are sometimes important. Smaller meals, more often is another good train of though. 5 smaller meals compared to 3 big ones. I wish you luck. It's hard work and you have to remember that you didn't get big over night.

I have upped my exercise and I'm on a 1200 cal diet, watching carbs, eating more veggies and increased water intake. I don't want to lose fast or unhealthy. Not looking for a number on the scale just want clothes to fit better at least.

Avatar m tn How were you treated for Graves Disease? Are you now hypo? Are you on thyroid replacement hormones? If so, which ones, what dosage and for how long have you been on it? It's possible that you need to increase your med dosage, if you aren't losing weight. Typically, when thyroid hormone levels are adequate weight will come off. If you have current labs you could post, that would be helpful for us.

I felt my first PVC after taking an ephedra pill my first year of college. One week after my first SVT attack, my cardiologist ordered that I have a pacemaker implanted, which I'm not really sure I ever needed. Anyhow, after the implantation, I started to feel what I described as "Skipped Beats", which I now know are PVC's.

As a 28 year old female, I was ecstatic because I thought I finally got to the root cause of my inability to lose the weight I wanted to. I maintained a strict diet and exercise routine for years and did lose a lot of weight, but only was able to get down to about 160 lbs (I'm 5'9"). There was still some unattractive stomach fat that looked gross. I ended up having Liposuction done and had 9.1 lbs of fat removed.
Avatar n tn From what I read, the original HCG treatment consisted of daily shots of that hormone plus an extreme diet of 500 calories, and there was no medical evidence that it worked. It got popular (as fad diets do) and now they sell homeopathic (oral) versions of the hcg that have unknown ingredients and doses. Fad diets don't work and are dangerous for diabetics. I know it is hard to lose weight at your mother's age.
