Avatar f tn DHEA-sulfate test measures the amount of DHEA-sulfate in the blood. DHEA-sulfate is a weak male hormone (androgen) produced by the adrenal gland in men and women. If your levels are high, you may have the unwanted side affects of excess hair or other male characteristics. This is something to follow with PCOS.
Avatar f tn Its very frustrating but noone else has had any ideas on what is the cause. My previous hormone specialist prescribed a vaginal cream of estrogen/progesterone and testosterone.
401095 tn?1351391770 t started on the DHEA yet....but plan to pick some up tomorrow....funny thing about DHEA, it IS a hormone, but with all other hormones in our body, we can't just go to a GNC or a Walgreens or Wal-Mart and buy the hormone....yet with DHEA, we can....odd, i know....even the doctor agreed with that one...but that's why you have to be careful and typically only supplement with that hormone after consulting with a doctor...you really have to know WHY you need to replace it in your body....
590177 tn?1288425854 DHEA is a totally different hormone. DHEA does not serve the same function as cortisol. One cannot live without cortisol, however DHEA is not necessary. DHEA converts to estrogen and testosterone. If you are getting more facial hair, increasing DHEA may not be ideal as it may increase your testosterone. HC is kinda a weird thing - too much and too little makes for fatigue. Time of day taking it can be a huge factor as well. It cycles in a normal person.
Avatar n tn I am a 25 year old female, I had a saliva hormone kit evaluated with testosterone, DHEA, estradiol, and progesterone, also progesterone/estradiol ratio done. The results came back as this, Estradiol- normal Progesterone- Low; 47.2 (range of 127-446) Ratio of Progesterone to estradiol - 33.0 Low; (range of 200-600) Testosterone- 83.5 High; (range of 6.0-49) DHEA- 366.7 High- (range of 106-300) I can tell that i have way higher 'male hormones' than the women's hormones but, why?
Avatar f tn My Doctor has diagnosed me with reverse T3 and oestrogen dominence and has put me on progesterone to balance the oestrogen, t3 for my thyroid and Dhea (as I am low in DHEA and Testosterone) as he says it will be used, and if necessary by body will convert what it needs to Testosterone. However I just read an article which states Hashi patients often convert DHEA to Oestrogen which exasperates Oestrogen dominence. Has anyone ever heard of this?
Avatar m tn i have used androforte testosterone cream which i think is bioidentical testosterone and i didn't notice any muscle change when working out.
Avatar f tn SO I picked up a few supplements - DHEA, Vit D3 and Progesterone cream. Also got a prescription for Armour. I guess I will get a blood test again in another 2 months. Will come back with the update soon. Thanks so much for all the info. You were really helpful.
Avatar n tn Ok Dug it to the old grey matter and thinking DHEA cream may help, they say it has anti ageing effect on skin, so this might be worth you reasearching, did have a quick look, and I think it may work over time, then nothing will be as quick as the knife, see if you can find some 5 or 10mg tubes of cream, but please read up about DHEA, its a hormone, on the good side it will boost your testosterone, lift your libido and kick up your energy levels, but it can have the odd funny side effect with th
299737 tn?1216208554 now maybe I can get balance better and my thyroid will work better. They gave me DHEA with Biest in a cream and a progesterone pill by compounding pharmacy. The progesterone pill is to be taken at night. I have a pill for progest because doc said i have yeast infections so he did not want me to take cream. So did your progesterone work. I hope so. This hormone stuff is a mess with some women. Terrible!
Avatar f tn So my doc is taking me off birth control pills and putting me on a bioidentical cream that has estrogen, testosterone and, progesterone. She also has me taking 5mg DHEA as well as glutamine for my gut and Rejuvamax to increase my growth hormone which was also low and Dim to lower the bad estrogen. I'm also taking Dim to lower the bad estrogen. She said as low as all my levels were, it will take 3-4 months to start feeling a difference.
Avatar m tn I am 27 years old, male and I feel I have hormone problems but despite years of doctors visits and research I cannot figure it out. 4625099 tn?1431314305 Hello ladies I am new to this forum, I have been struggling with TTC for over 3 years and have seen so many doctors, naturopaths, 1 failed IVF cycle last year plus being on a detox to help my body. It has been a tough emotional journey as when you hit 40, the doctors aren't as positive towards pregnancy. I have done lots of research on infertility and health for quite some time.
Avatar n tn My new doctor recommended me to have a salivary test to test hormone levels/cortisol/dhea. The results show what she called estrogen deficiency and high cortisol levels. progestrone level is okay. She said that I could try "natural" estrogen cream but I have tried bioidentical progestrone cream before and this brought on bleeding again just after 3 days of use. I also experienced giddiness with it use.
Avatar f tn i would be very careful about taking a hormone like DHEA without advice from your doctor. unless you have a deficiency, taking additional hormones can really mess up your system. if you have not seen a fertility specialist, you should consider it since it has been a year.
Avatar f tn i have been on a hormone replacement cream for about 6 months now and have shown extreme improvement in symptoms. however, there is no real way to tell if my infertility has been resolved. i have explored the internet and havent been able to find much information on the results of the treatment or the side effects, and was wondering if anyone had any advice or personal experience.
Avatar f tn Hi Amanda, So if your libido is down then you could try some DHEA its a hormone that can be brought over the counter, It will boost your testosterone, lift your libido and kick up your energy levels, but please read up about it first as it can have the odd funny side effects for the odd person, just google DHEA for women and have a good read, if you do deside to try it just start a a low dose say 25mg a day, and build it up from there, and if you get a side effect just come off it, its that easy
Avatar m tn Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is hormone that is naturally produced in our bodies and decreases after the age of 30. It serves as a pre-curser for the sex hormones, androgen and estrogen. There is evidence in support of the use of DHEA for help with adrenal insufficiency, depression, and lupus; however; there are no studies of long term effects. DHEA may increase the risk of prostate, breast, or any hormone sensitive cancers and it is recommended only to be taken under the supervision of a MD.
766586 tn?1284383198 t have my FSH tested between IVFs but I did start taking DHEA two months prior to the second IVF(and human growth hormone during actual stimulation) and the dr said the embryos looked much better this time around.
1287560 tn?1272216521 Hello can anywhen give any knowledge on these hormone levels, my dr is away till thursday and they're bizarre. Firstly I DO NOT HAVE A CYCLE as my body weight is low so these were not taken on day 3 as i dont know when day 3 would fall, fsh 14, lh 11 , eostrogen 142, progesterone 43. The other dr i spoke to seemed to think that i may actually get a period this month, i am trying to put on weight ready for our 4th ivf in june. P.
12182312 tn?1427683956 it just seems odd that it is the only hormone off. DHEA converts to T and E, so they need to investigate further - and keep in mind that that there are many forms of T (they usually run just one) and there is the binding hormone and more they can look at, so another opinion may be warranted.
Avatar f tn Try not to stress because this only makes matters worse. Talk to your Doctor about a pregnenolone supplement (Not DHEA!) for a short period of time, just to get you past the seven to ten week mark. You may also want to start using a natural progesterone cream. Renewed Balance by AIM is safe and effective. Start with less than the prescribed amount and gradually increase to the prescribed amount. Try to apply the cream around the same time every day and to not skip a day here or there.
Avatar f tn So they pharmacist started me on 5 mg of dhea and also a progest. cream. I was good for 4 days and thought I found the cure. Until just last Wed all the way until today...that is 6 days....I started with severe cramps, pain in lower back, almost as if I was getting my menstrual cycle. Then came the Diarrhea and I am not talking one time....it last from 8:00am-12:00 and then again after dinner and then from 2:00-7:00 in the morning. It keeps me up and I am almost in tears.
Avatar f tn Dhea is a precursor hormone so are they going to test estrogen, testosterone and see if you have an androgen issue? Or a pituitary issue? It is produced in the adrenals so they can do more testing, and keep an eye on it. But just the one test does not tell you much. You need more testing.
Avatar f tn Hi STP, What crazy timing, this is the first day for me on these forums, and I have also been looking into DHEA and its role in hormonal balance. DHEA is a hormone, actually. I would strongly, strongly advise you to first get your DHEA, cortisol and progesterone levels tested by a doc who knows what they're doing. Here in the States you can buy DHEA supplements off the shelf but they may or may not be right for you, even if you could get your hands on them!
Avatar n tn My husband takes 50mg a day - in an earlier post I described how he decided to discontinue his prescribed testosterone shots, and how we researched supplements that might help him succeed and improve his natural hormone levels. DHEA is a precursor hormone to many other, so we included that one. His testosterone level is now in the normal range. Soooo, it seems to work for HIM, at any rate.
