373367 tn?1246405635 Didn't I read where they have only tried it one 30 patients? I think they should step up their research to include more individuals and get on done, SOON. Thanks for posting this. They are truly making advances in the fight against diseases.
Avatar n tn Bu then, another epidemics appear and then a new vacinne appear rapidly, spending citizen money in new vacinnes, funding research, etc. This is a business. Herpes and supposed HIV, are a great businnes and chronic diseases. Why prevention vacinnes? They will reduce profits.
Avatar f tn Basically, while still at research level, this has been tested on monkeys and could lead to a 8 month HIV resistance vaccine. Look up the BBC science website for more information. Let's keep our finger's crossed.
Avatar f tn One question is since P24and p17 is present does that mean I have been exposed to HIV but am not HIV positive? Or, does it mean I will soon develop the third band? It's sorta confusing with indeterminate and need to retest just prolongs my anxiety, I wish there was just yes or no and not maybe also. Any help or encouragement will be appreciated as the specialist has not returned my calls to set the appointment.
Avatar n tn There are two strains of herpes, with HSV-1 most commonly associated with cold sores and HSV-2 - the virus targeted by this newest vaccine - most commonly associated with genital herpes. Extensive testing at the Translational Research Institute for the Coridon vaccine has already showed promising results in animals but Professor Frazer said the next step to work with humans would ensure the vaccine was safe.
163305 tn?1333672171 Because hepatitis C is more virulent than HIV, no one was confident a vaccine against all the various strains around the world could be developed. But Michael Houghton, the University of Alberta researcher who announced his work today at the Canada Excellence Research Chairs Summit in Vancouver, says his vaccine works against every known strain of the virus.
Avatar n tn In this vein, does anyone have dollar figures on what is spent on HCV research? HCV vs. HIV or cancer research?
Avatar m tn (Occult hepatitis B) seems to be relatively frequent in immunized children born to HBsAg-positive mothers.” They called for additional studies into occult infection, and more research on whether vaccine boosters and/or stronger vaccines are needed to truly vanquish hepatitis B in children born to infected mothers.
Avatar m tn Information of HIV subtypes is important to scientists as we track the virus and its spread and work to understand how it evolves so that we can make progress towards development of an HIV vaccine, something that research is working hard to discover. The publications on HIV subtypes however have no relevance to your situation or test results. Please do not be distracted by the ramblings of a paranoid person over reacting to scientific data that they do not understand.
156085 tn?1204330585 Hopefully, the Intercell vaccine will be the ticket for those who currently have resistance to SOC tx. It breaks my heart to read of those that fight so hard and endure treatment, then end up dealing with a relapse. Keep the faith. Something's bound to happen with all of the latest developments in the works. Anyone have any thoughts or input on the vaccines? is the one I have bets on... : ) http://www.bionity.
Avatar n tn BANGKOK – For the first time, an experimental vaccine has prevented infection with the AIDS virus, a watershed event in the deadly epidemic and a surprising result. Recent failures led many scientists to think such a vaccine might never be possible. The World Health Organization and the U.N. agency UNAIDS said the results "instilled new hope" in the field of HIV vaccine research.
Avatar m tn HBV has always been 2nd banana to HCV and HIV in research. We were always in the backseat. LAM, ADV, TDF all came from HIV research. We got lucky that way. We may get lucky with NTZ which is from HCV research. The point is we are lucky to have exisitng treatment options. And if managed well, these treatment options are very effective even in the very long term if your doctors knows how to deal with the resistance issue.
55646 tn?1263664409 After years of nothing new in herpes research, everything is new right now. Nationally, there are at least three different studies beginning for the treatment of genital herpes. First, the Genocea phase one (first in humans) trial. Instead of an oral medication to treat herpes, Genocea out of Boston has taken the approach of stimulating the immune system to respond more robustly to the herpes virus in people who are already infected with the virus.
Avatar f tn Lyme compared to HIV/AIDS By a well known Lyme specialist---- Dr. J. in Washington D.C.---- in his remarks read to the North Carolina Medical Board during his final appearance before them on July 20, 2006. "Most of my HIV patients used to die ... now most don't ... Some still do, of course. My Lyme patients, the sickest ones, want to die but they can't. That's right, they want to die but they can't. The most common cause of death in Lyme disease is suicide.
Avatar m tn It has antiviral activity against hepatitis C virus, adenovirus, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus, rotavirus, adenovirus and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)[38,39]. Recently, it has been found that lactoferrin and iron- and zinc-saturated lactoferrin significantly inhibit the amplification of HBV DNA in a dose-dependent manner in HBV-infected HepG2 cells[40].
669618 tn?1289406848 I think by 6 months I hope that we know more about the vaccine, or with all the vaccinations they are starting with now it will have made a difference in the amount of cases they are seeing. I personally live in the middle of no where, but even if we were more exposed to it we still don't plan to get Colter vaccinated for a while.
1211076 tn?1303523040 H1N1 Nasal Spray Vaccine Prevents Swine Flu The presence of living H1N1 virus in the nasal spray vaccine poses risks. Weak immune response can result in infection by the inhaled version of the swine flu vaccine. The swine flu vaccine is created within chicken eggs, and is processed to create a large batch of antigen, which will provoke an immune response within the vaccinated individual.

181575 tn?1250202386 I am reposting articles / summaries on the treatment management of chronic HepB. "cajim" located these articles which are quite informative. I thought about putting them on a seaprate Health Page but didn't think it was appropriate since we didn't write them. Let's make this a sort of "Unofficial Research Thread" or "URT" for this type of information. Let's keep this URT free of comments.
475555 tn?1469307939 I don't believe scientists expect to control or destroy the virus with mono-therapy. Everything points to some sort of cocktail. With HIV they may take one pill, but that pill usually contains three different drugs that act on different parts of the virus and are effective against different mutations. If the real question is whether they will have a pill that does not include INF and RIB, that seems to be the goal in the next five years or more.
233616 tn?1312790796 I'm sure they develop a lot of stuff, but you said "major medical advances'. If it is a major medical advance, you don't need google. The Israelis also have Teva Pharma - a generic producer. But, I'm unaware of anything I would call a 'major medical advance'.
1297646 tn?1275465752 A new way to combat HIV/AIDS 11-30-2010 For almost three decades, science and medical researchers have struggled to find a vaccine or cure for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. However, a researcher in Beijing hopes to use an unconventional approach which may snuff out the infection before it breaks through the body's defenses. Shen Le has that story. Professor Xu Yuanyong is one of the few pioneers in complementology.
279164 tn?1192533734 More basic research needed Speaking at a public lecture on the possibility of finding an HIV vaccine, she said there was a need for more basic research on the HIV virus itself. Morris said the STEP trial, which was halted first in USA, then in South Africa, was a "well-run trial that gave us answers". "At the very least we'll find out why it didn't work." Morris reminded her audience that it took almost 47 years to develop a polio vaccine.
1072295 tn?1255453136 and so your aware i was totally against getting the H1N1 vaccine in the begining but i talked to my doctor and did research and figured out that getting it would be the right choice for me and my baby.
Avatar m tn This subject has a great deal of controversy surrounding it, but I have included a link to the Bill and Melinda Gates foundations which works with HIV/AIDS research around the world. I hope you find your answers or at least some hope............ http://www.hivplusmag.
Avatar m tn They are evaluating a number of blood tests to determine if they can diagnose HIV infection in babies younger than 3 months. How can HIV infection be prevented? Because no vaccine for HIV is available, the only way to prevent infection by the virus is to avoid behaviors that put a person at risk of infection, such as sharing needles and having unprotected sex. Many people infected with HIV have no symptoms.

Avatar m tn Another thing is, I had been given a hepatitis B vaccine 2 weeks before the exam. According to some research I did on the internet, both things could lead to a false positive. I know the last word will be on the WB results, but, for my mental wellbeing, I just want to know your opinions about 1) Based on your experience, wether 2.00 S/CO is a frequent result for HIV reactive individuals, or if it legitimately leaves a (big?
