Avatar f tn Doctor wants to run a bunch of tests including HIV. I don't think I have anything to worry about but for some reason it still scares me. I don't remember testing for that with my first pregnancy. Anybody else get tested for this? Is it mandatory now?
Avatar m tn What are the chances of an increased false positive? Shall i let the HCW know i have had a HBIG shot prior to HIV testing? Will a 3 month test still be conclusive, or do i need to go further than 3 month testing?
Avatar m tn At the Seattle-King County STD clinic, we routinely do pooled HIV RNA testing for gay men, but for no other group. NC's data show that false negative HIV RNA testing is rare. However, some experts continue to worry that RNA testing may miss a few people with early HIV infections. The standard advice is that following significant HIV exposures, people with negative RNA tests during the window period should still have standard HIV antibody testing around 6-8 weeks after the last exposure.
Avatar n tn Look symptoms of what a head cold man you dont have HIV get real dude Yes if ARS is present then a test would be positive
Avatar f tn This service may yield a negative result if you were infected during the six months before this testing, because antibodies to HIV-1 do not develop immediately after infection occurs. You should be evaluated by a physician of your choice if you become ill or if you remain concerned that you could be infected with HIV-1. INFORMATION FOR YOUR PHYSICIAN: The test used for this analysis is the bioMerieux Vironostika® HIV-1 Microelisa System or the Genetic Systems™ rLAV EIA.

1024580 tn?1331577721 The exposure time is important because it allows us to calculate the HIV window period, which is the time from HIV infection to detection. There is a great deal of confusion regarding HIV testing which results mainly from the enormous leaps in our knowledge about HIV in the time since the epidemic began and the advancement of the technology behind the testing devices.Consequently the question as to which is the best HIV test depends very much on the individual circumstances.
264121 tn?1313033056 I wanted to go ahead and do the gamut of further testing, with genotype testing and liver enzymes today, so that when I finally SEE the specialist, he'll have all of the documentation he needs to start me on the medication protocol. My primary care physician was having none of that. Soooo... tomorrow, I am going to go and sit in the waiting room of the specialist with my little medical chart and see if he will feel sorry for me since I've driven for forty-five minutes, and squeeze me in.
Avatar m tn It may take several months after HIV infection for the antibody response to reach detectable levels, during which time rapid testing for antibodies to HIV will not be indicative of true infection status.
Avatar n tn She has assured me time and time again that she doesn't have hiv, however I went and got tested for HIV on Dec 3rd and it was negative. I'm very worried because I've never had this dry, flaky skin on my face before. Thank you in advance.

Avatar n tn For those of you who have taken a DNA PCR HIV-1 Test, I received my 8 week DNA PCR HIV-1 Test / HIV ICMA test. I received my results in two days -- from the time blood was taken. The tests were through requestatest, who use Labcorp. My question (for those of you who have taken this test) is: How long did it take for you to receive your results? I thought the DNA PCR test was complex test, that takes a good portion of time to perform.
Avatar n tn You are right to be concered aboutl sexually acquire urethritis, such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, or non-chlamydial, nongonococcal urethrits (NGU). However, it is unusual for symptoms to appear once and then stop; if you had one of those, most likely you would have continued to notice abnormal penile discharge, underwear staining, and the like. However, it is possible you have one of those conditions and definitely should see a health care provider about it.
Avatar n tn But I was exposed for approx 20-90 secs. I asked her about her status and she said that she was hiv negative and hadn't been sick or had unprotected sex since her last boyfriend over a year ago. Days later she produced a copy of her hiv negative test from 4 months earlier...which eased my mind some. But she did not seem genuine in her responses about her more recent sexual history. And now she does not respond to me at all.
Avatar m tn I was vaccinated as a young child, has it been too long for the vaccine to still be effective and what do the varying hep b results indicate? HIV 1/o/2 Abs, Qual^SE non reactive flags-n range non reactive HIV 1/o/2 Abs-Index Value^SE <1.00 flags n range <1.00 Can I be 100 percent confident with these results?
Avatar n tn Unless you learn your partner in fact was at high risk (injection drug use, gay/bi, ex-prisoner, immigrant from an HIV endemic country), you really don't need testing at all. But if your anxieties demand knowing your test is negative, a single test at 6 weeks is fine. Congratulations on starting Gardasil. In the long run, that's a more effective health prevention step for you than worrying about HIV from this event.
Avatar m tn you needed to have waited at least 1 week after you had last had sex with someone for testing for gonorrhea, chlamydia, ngu and trich. 6 weeks for syphilis testing. 3 months for herpes , hepatitis and hiv testing. we don't have tests for hpv to cover that base. so what do you do now? well as you already know, it's not likely to be a false positive but following up with a herpes WB blood test, might be helpful just for peace of mind.

179355 tn?1207410851 I also received from the FDA the testing results of my lot number. Before 1995, the FDA used the PCR protocal to test for HCV. During the latter part of 1995 the FDA implemented a newer protocal that was more sensitive to the HCV virus. During the testing of my particular lot number, the PCR test did not detect the virus but when they tested it with the PCR2 protocal, it clearly showed the presense of HCV.

Avatar f tn I do know that origionally that it was just the anitbody test. I'm not exactly sure when the first viral load test was done, but at most no more than 3 weeks later when the hematologist had confirmed that he no kidding had the virus. It wasn't long either that they told him he was genotype 1b. They have been monitoring his viral load the last few weeks and it has been sporadic. Although its been low, its been anywhere from 1.2 mil to 100,000. I'm sure that it's peaked higher at some point.
1440512 tn?1294475233 Three hospital stays and oh so many dr visits. Here is what has been ruled out Hiv, Cancer, endoscopy shows nothing wrong, abdominal scans with and without contrast shows inflamation but the endoscopy ruled it as nothing.
Avatar f tn For additional information on tests to have to help diagnose other infections (such as mycoplasma) ---- there are very few labs that do this testing. The regular hospital labs do NOT normally do the testing we need... they check for other mycoplasmas, but not the one that most CFS patients test positive for. Anyhow, for more information see: http://www.immed.org/illness/clinical_testing.
Avatar m tn The authors suggested that IDUs may have impaired immune function independent of their HIV status. Research to date suggests that IDUs, people with HIV, and others whose immune function may be compromised should be tested carefully for HCV (possibly using PBMC or liver biopsy tests) if they have elevated liver enzymes or other signs that may indicate hidden HCV infection.
1507381 tn?1293426896 Blood donations are the way the Red Cross makes their money. They send out blood everyday with HIV, HCV, mad cow disease and anything you can imagine. They send it out and then recall it but by the time they do, it has already been distributed. It makes me mad that they put children's lives at risk. It would shock you to know how bad it really is. If you are interested go to http://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls/enforcementreports/default.
264121 tn?1313033056 Back then HCV had yet to be identified/discovered so it was not screened in the blood supply (neither was HIV). But it certainly was in the blood supply, and I ended up getting it this way. Today, undoubtably there are other bloodborne pathogens that have yet to be identified (nor screened in the blood supply). Everytime you receive blood from someone else, even if it's been properly screened against what is known about today (i.e.
