Avatar f tn I spoke with someone at Orange County Health Department in New York State, and they say it takes 35 days, but they still tell patients who get an HIV test or think they have HIV that 3 months is the conclusive result.
1815939 tn?1377995399 4,200 NY hospital patients face possible hepatitis, HIV exposure "A New York hospital warned 4,247 people of potential exposure to hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV after authorities discovered a risk of potential blood contamination. Avatar m tn Subsequent NYC Elisa testing with my doctor on 2/2 (Neg on all STD's, HIV, Hep), 2/16 (Neg on HIV), 3/2 (Neg on all STD's, HIV, Hep). Will see Doc on 3/9 but test then or when?? I like others I have read about have a high degree of anxiety and have had possible symptoms including, some sleep problems, stiff necks, slight arm-neck-groin lymph feelings, (2) early Feb night sweats, late Feb early Mar slight thin line neck rash & extremely slight face blemmish (.
Avatar m tn Since you're nervous about it, I recommend you have an HIV test. Negative test results typically are more reassuring than anything an expert can say based on probilities and statistics. Enough time (4 weeks) has passed for 100% reliable testing with the duo ("4th generation") tests for both HIV antibody and p24 antigen; or you can wait until the 6 week mark for definitive results by the stand-alone HIV antibody tests.
Avatar m tn Hello guys, I went to an STD clinic in Brooklyn, NY a few weeks ago to test for HIV after I had unprotected sex 6 weeks prior. I was given a rapid finger test, which was negative and was also drawn blood from my vein for what they said was a new HIV test offered, called "Acute HIV Test" They mentioned that a window period of this test is about 3 weeks. They said that this is a very new and expensive test. The results were ready today, two weeks later and they were negative.
179856 tn?1333550962 I find it insteresting that this all seems to be coming on the heal of the ability for HIV test sensitivities increasing to the point that they can discern HIV from HCV and are finding that many HIV infected folks are co-infected with HCV. I have been wondering if this revelation is not responsible for acknowledging HIV's dark cousin and may become a blessing which provides more research and innovations (per chance maybe even a *real* effective cure Hallelujah!! ).
Avatar n tn I requested this test as a routine test, I've no reason to believe I've been exposed to anything. I was informed HIV test results can't be revealed over the phone in NY. Eight days later, I'd received no call from the doctor's office, so I called. I was told all test results where in, and they'd see me on my scheduled appointment. Can I assume, with all result reported, if I was positive for HIV, they would've asked me to come in earlier then my scheduled appointment?
Avatar f tn It could be an NY State thing. They could require medicos to report on a bunch of classes of diseases and stuff. My brother works for a NY county not far from you and always has stories about onerous things required by the state. Government agencies require a lot that normal-thinking people would consider invasive. I'm sure that when you achieve svr that won't be in a file anywhere, though.
Avatar m tn In South Eastern Europe I tested for: Anti HIV 1&2 Antikor/p24 Antijen My test was "reactive" less than 1,0 being negative. I was: 2,1 S/CO. Test was completed exactly 1 month after what I thought was exposure via receptive, unprotected anal sex, unknown status. 3 weeks after I had: fever fatigue loss of appetite tongue coating/spots,very bad sore throat & night sweats.
Avatar f tn cervical dydplasia and precancerous does delay HIV antibodies? 2.when I should take HIV Elisa test? When it is cocnclusive if I am ill?
Avatar n tn Relax. With a negative HIV test 2 months afterward, you can be 100% certain you did not acquire HIV during the sexual encounter you describe. Sinus symptoms are not like those of acute HIV infection; and in any case, symptoms NEVER are a useful indicator for or against HIV. (And by the way, it isn't at all surprising that your "sinusitis" did not respond to antibiotics.
Avatar f tn A 21 day 4th gen test is a good sign of your final status. But by itself a 21 day test would not be consider conclusive. So your situation is unusual and there is no data. Please discuss with your doctor if he/she believes you need to retest. Be well.

Avatar n tn As an FYI, I got an HIV test at 8 weeks (negative) and followed it up with a second test at 9 months (also negative). I concur with the doctor on a followup test for your peace of mind. It was very helpful for me.
Avatar f tn well the only way to know is by taking a hiv test.. symptoms cant and dont diagnose hiv.. if you read this forum, many people come here with numerous symptoms but end up testing negative.. so dont worry about your symptoms, it could be caused due to anxiety or stress.. just go for a test to find out..
Avatar n tn Just now I went to the hospital where I had my last HIV test (1 and 2 a/b combo with P24) and requested a hard copy of the negative test result. It made me feel better to see it in writing, to know that it's real, however irrational this is. Logically I know there was no risk, and so I am negative and do not need to test. but somehow my mind keeps racing. So at the hospital, I also asked to see a doctor and requested referral for mental health help.
Avatar n tn Although such false results are uncommon, probably you will now agree it would have been best if that test had not been done. In any case, that test clearly was false; the subsequent test in Hong Kong prove you do not have HIV. In other words, your HK doctor is exactly right. You do not need any further HIV tests. Please don't have another one unless and until you have other exposures that put you at risk (which certainly will not include any oral sex events).
Avatar n tn Hi all, Was just wondering if anyone knows what generation tests that Labcorp or Quest diagnostics use for their HIV Elisa test. Are these tests any different to the ones used in NY state becuase NY state seems to use tests that can detect HIV antibodies in most people by 4 weeks?
Avatar m tn There was no risk of contracting HIV from getting an HIV test.
Avatar m tn In which the now former lady friend confessed her true HIV+ status. Since then I had a full blood test done in July (non reactive result), another in September, (rapid HIV mouth swab, non reactive). The first test did show immuno response to HSV 1-HSV2. Avatar n tn You encounter posed NO risk for all STDs. You don't need an NGU test or any other test. You can see from you negative results that the condom was in tact and protected you from a dozen STIs. Please begin to note what type of condoms you use. If you happend to used lamb skin, don't worry about it from this encounter. See Teak's profile: "Teak says, use Latex, Polyurethane or Polyisoprene condoms. " From the HIV prevention Community.
Avatar f tn By early feb 10(the time of our last sexual contact) I was diagnosed with herpes and most recently chlamydia from this horrible person. At the end of march 10 I took a home access hiv test which was negative. About 2 weeks ago (6 mo mark) I took another HA test which also came back negative. I am having major anxiety about this. Googling all the time. I've spoken to a nurse practitioner at my local PCP and she told me to test again in 6 months.
Avatar m tn The period of time after infection, before the HIV test turns positive is called the window period. When a person becomes infected with HIV, the body makes antibodies to fight HIV. When enough antibodies are developed, the HIV antibody test will be positive. Each person's body responds to HIV infection a little differently, so the window period varies slightly from person to person.
Avatar m tn (1) HIV DNA-PCR test coupled with ELISA (antibody) test at 4 weeks (2) ELISA (antibody) test at 8 weeks (3) ELISA (antibody) test at 12-13 weeks. QUESTION: Can you tell me how much at-risk I was for HIV exposure (I know you're probably gonna say, "VERY LITTLE" or "MINIMAL")? Also, can you tell me what a negative DNA-PCR and ELISA at 4 weeks will mean, especially in my situation? If you could help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it!
