I was very worried afterwards and got the following tests, when I was back in the US - 20 days: oraquick in NYC and NAT that both came up negative.

I spoke with someone at Orange County Health Department in New York State, and they say it takes 35 days, but they still tell patients who get an HIV test or think they have HIV that 3 months is the conclusive result.

I was given a rapid finger test, which was negative and was also drawn blood from my vein for what they said was a new HIV test offered, called "Acute HIV Test" They mentioned that a window period of this test is about 3 weeks. They said that this is a very new and expensive test. The results were ready today, two weeks later and they were negative.

My doctor told me the test results would be available in four days, set an appointment for me to see him in four weeks, and sent me to the lab for testing. I was taking ny cousin's earring out when I notice I had her dried blood on the tips of my finger. She had just got them pierced a month ago. When I noticed it I immediately went to the restroom and washed my hands and put hand sanitizer on the tips of my fingers. About 30 minutes later I began biting my nail and skin around my finger. What I want to know is do I need a test? Lizzie Lou, Teak, Vance, and others?

You never had an exposure and don't need any testing.

The last hiv test i did was at 13 weeks and 14 hours. It was a rapid test that is CE approved. So I do trust the test. But. After The lady pricked ny finger and added the soulution to Therese cassette it only went about 5 minuts before she told med i was negativ. No HIV. I was soo happy. But when I got home I googled the test and IT said to wait 15 minuts before reading the result. I did see the test, and there was a clear C line and no T line.

Took a rapid HIV test yesterday (1 minutes result) at an "Out of the Closet" store in NY which offers free testing. Went for a very low exposure (but nonetheless have been anxious about it for some time). Anyway, negative result but few hours after, I had redness around my knuckles and a very small rash on one of my hands (not the one being pricked for the test).

Possible exposure (protected but drunk) during last week December to first week January 2010 (by 10th?). Oral swab test on 1/29/10 in NYC clinic was negative. Subsequent NYC Elisa testing with my doctor on 2/2 (Neg on all STD's, HIV, Hep), 2/16 (Neg on HIV), 3/2 (Neg on all STD's, HIV, Hep). Will see Doc on 3/9 but test then or when??

The antigen test does not eliminate the need to get a 3 month conclusive test if you test negative on the antigen test. P24 are not an approved stand alone test. They must be followed up with an antibody test.

I dont think thats the case. Most rapid HIV tests in the US test for HIV 1/2 and have been doing so for several years. I have called planned parenthood and several free community health clinics in the buffalo erie county area and all rapid tests cover HIV 1 and HIV 2 in the state of NY. Is it possible for HIV-1 essay's to catch HIV-2 antibodies? I have read that its possible but dont know much about it.

Thank you for answering. I have trouble finding the COMBO test in ny. So the RNA and NAAT are meaningless. The people who provided these test said they were %99. Thanks.

well the only way to know is by taking a hiv test.. symptoms cant and dont diagnose hiv.. if you read this forum, many people come here with numerous symptoms but end up testing negative.. so dont worry about your symptoms, it could be caused due to anxiety or stress.. just go for a test to find out..

I think a few NY residents have found using relative resident information outside NY and them having them ship it to them was what I heard some were doing.
