Avatar f tn Will there ever be a cure for genital herpes, cause i think the last post i straight up BS.What if the 48day past and you found out couple months later you have herpes..How are hey going to cure that.
Avatar m tn Guess? Don't believe in anything unless an HIV cure really has been discovered and medically proven by a recognised health body.
Avatar n tn "However, the new drug VX-950 is showing tremendous promise with close to a 100% cure rate for genotypes 1a and 1b, the hardest to cure." Thanks for your explanation, Chris. Very useful info.
Avatar m tn There is now a patent on a cure for HIV.... I can't remember the patent number, but it's waiting to be tested and will likely be available sooner than later. If they can solve HIV, they should certainly be able to tackle herpes.
Avatar n tn Potential cure for HIV discovered 06.28.07, 4:07 PM ET CHICAGO (Thomson Financial) - In a breakthrough that could potentially lead to a cure for HIV infection, scientists have discovered a way to remove the virus from infected cells, a study released today said. The scientists engineered an enzyme which attacks the DNA of the HIV virus and cuts it out of the infected cell, according to the study published in Science magazine.
107513 tn?1232290064 And regarding the alcohol issue, I was a stage 3 prior to tx and am close to 60 years old. The only fault I have with Schiff -- or my doctors -- and it's not really a "pick" but an observation -- is that they tend to see their job finished with SVR. I believe Schiff bid Snook a nice adios as did one of my docs. It's understandable, since we live in such a specialized medical society but how then will data accruately be accumulated on post treatment sides, etc.
Avatar m tn I recently suffered hiv testing trauma. I do weight training from 6-8 or 8:30 in evening and generally go to bed at 12 or 11:30 pm. I am not able to sleep properly and the quality and quantity of sleep i not adequate. How can insomnia be dealt naturally without meds. Please help!!
1530342 tn?1405020090 For MOST viral infections, there is no cure, and with HIV, a retrovrius, it is unlikely. We still don't have a cure for the common cold, and influenza. A cure would be wonderful, but just think of all the other diseases out there with no cure, only treatments. The thing to be thankful for is how far we've come in the treatment for HIV/AIDS. MANY people are living completely normal life spans...it's not the automatic death sentence it was at the beginning.
277836 tn?1359669774 I wished there was a cure for HIV. It took two of my cousins. The sad reality is some things are just not curable. I am pretty sure if the drug companies had a cure, they would profit more from selling the cure than selling medications. Then again you have a point about doctors stringing you along and making you take all kinds of tests that aren't needed. It is a business and sadly money comes before everything.
Avatar m tn It's high time some progress was made, especially given that the ASHA says 50% of women in the USA will have genital herpes by 2025. Here is a shortlist of the most likely new treatments to become available soon, in order of how close they are to market, number 1 being the closest to market. Make your own additions to, or comments on, the list. Here's the countdown: 1.
Avatar n tn No, chronic post nasal drip/mucous is not a sign of possible HIV infection, especially early infection. I suppose some people with advanced HIV/AIDS can get chronic sinusitis, but of every million people with that problem, I'll bet no more than one or two have HIV.
Avatar m tn Two grants from the National Institutes of Health will allow Saint Louis University researchers to build on breakthroughs in understanding the hepatitis B virus and begin the search for a drug to cure – not just halt – the illness. Last year, John Tavis, PhD, professor of molecular microbiology and immunology at SLU published research demonstrating a way to measure and then block a previously unstudied enzyme, RNAseH, to stop the virus from replicating.
Avatar m tn Brother , common cold virus are what they sound COMMON... And they are not forever and hence they cure itself in sometime but HIV IS FOREVER and not curable till date. Sorry once again brother for that wikipedia post .
206807 tn?1331939784 As in the case of cancer and HIV more $ is going to find better treatments then finding a cure. But even a cure for those 2 are very daunting tasks that fail time and time again due to many factors. Overall I don't think we have much to worry about as our heath care system is better then in Liberia, as why you see the mass amounts of death.
Avatar m tn SVR (cure rate) WITHOUT Hepatologist: 66% (genotype 1 and 4) SVR (cure rate) WITH Hepatologist: 34% (genotype 1 and 4) SVR without Hepatologist (signficant liver damage): 25% SVR with Hepatologist: 69% -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- While the incredible difference in SVR rates is more than anyone would have guessed -- from what I've seen posted here over the past two years it doesn't surprise me that treatment outcomes would be signficantly
Avatar m tn How much chance is to get HIV from woman to man having unprotected vaginal sex from one exposure?
Avatar m tn 22 days after i went to the STD clinic and and saw professionals about HIV/STDs and told me the same thing ur symptoms are not HIV but still we will still test you for all STDs and HIV rapid test where u get ur answer same time but other stds u will come back for the result next week. I was tested negative on HIV and the person was very friendly and told me she can see from my eyes that i am too worried and that's normal since HIV is a scary disease.
1024580 tn?1331577721 What's the best HIV Test? The best HIV test is one that provides you with an accurate and reassuring result in a time frame that suits you best. Everybody will have a different "best HIV test" because their circumstances will be slightly different. The main things to think about are firstly when you were possibly exposed to HIV and secondly how desperately you need to know the answer.
332929 tn?1210079468 Otherwise l have always used condoms when having vaginal sex. My worry came the other day when a close friend of mine got Aids and l started reading about it and noticed there is a little risk in HIV transmition through oral sex. some months back l had a rush around my vagina and when l went to the doctor,he treated me for Urine infection although l thought l had an STD. now l am really worried to take an HIV test.
Avatar n tn But I cannot tell my children in case they repeat it at school or among friends. I couldnt even tell my mother, although I have said to some close friends that I have a liver problem. How did you cope, did you feel this way too. I think I was ignorant what Hep C was, I never knew it was a desease of the liver. I thought it was just a blood desease like HIV. I think too many are ignorant of the whole issue, I was !
Avatar m tn Janssen is part of Johnson & Johnson. J&J is a HUGE Pharma company. They also have a commercial products part of the company that makes shampoo, baby products, etc. The Pharma part is different. I'm going to keep an eye on there studies and this new drug. Like I said, they only have the Phase 1 study going on but I think the Phase 2 ones start later this year. I'll keep everyone posted.
264121 tn?1313033056 Since I'm having such insane problems with my red blood cell lines, this is also encouraging as it cites a long-term cure after successful treatment with the PegAlpha-2a alone as well as with the ribavirin. It causes me to be hopeful that should I need to reduce the riba at some point I've still got a good shot at a cure. The results of this study cannot (obviously) be extrapolated out as applicable to other forms of interferons or pegylated interferons. --> http://www.sciencedaily.
Avatar n tn (I have no abnormal discharge). She gave me a 3 day regim which seemed to cure the itchiness, but made the area more red and irritated. So then I got more guts and finally went to a gyno who cultured the red irritated area and checked it out. She told me that she saw nothing abnormal but saw some yeast. So there it was confirmed. A yeast infection of the skin surrounding my vagina. She gave me diflucan, in on pill to take and also gave me monistat 7 to use as well.
Avatar f tn What you have to remember is that HIV is not spread in this way. HIV is not contagious in the way that strep is. For HIV you have to have direct contact with an infected person's bodily fluid and that bodily fluid has to have a direct route into your body. The virus does not live on surfaces so you cannot get it from a doorknob or a seat, etc. If we could get it in this way, we would all be HIV positive. This is simply not how the virus is spread, thankfully.
Avatar n tn That depends on your resistant testing? I take one pill for HIV and I take 9 others with a liquid med for the problems HIV has caused. It just depends on what your ID doctor prescribes. It will cost you over a grand a month for meds as long as you don't have anything else wrong. My prescriptions for a year, not counting lab tests, doctor visits etc. is 66,000 per year.
Avatar n tn Researching found out that there are many factors that may lead to a false-positive hiv test result. I just tested positive, I always have had protected sex, but was under risk few months ago when a condom broke and a guy finished in me, Im gay. I havent developed any of hiv symptoms, I know I dont have to necesary have symptoms. But I have many of the conditions that are listed to be possible causes of a false result.
Avatar m tn Dear Mr XXXX from what you tell me it seems unlikely that you have received an HIV -infection at this past event. HIV-antibody -tests become usually positive up to 6 weeks after infection and remain positive thereafter. To confirm the data finally you can ev let make an HIV-PCR assay, direct virus detection, highly sensitive. If also this is negative (what is likely) I would exclude that you had been infected with HIV in this past event described.
1024580 tn?1331577721 Romero and others, in their article describing an excellent and diligent long term study failed to identify any risk at all in transfer of HIV from an HIV positive to an HIV negative partner through oral sex. In total 19000 episodes of oral sex were documented amongst 135 heterosexual couples over ten years and in 34% of these episodes the HIV positive male ejaculated into the HIV negative females' mouth. (Romero J et al.
Avatar m tn 10% chance of sleeping with someone who is HIV+ (although I don't know how close it is to the actual statistics).
Avatar n tn It seems its wrongly said that HIV cannot be transferred from Blow Job. I think it can be transferred immediately as in my case.
