Avatar m tn Basic Overview & Information on AIDS & HIV AIDS - acquired immunodeficiency syndrome - was first reported in the United States in 1981 and has since become a major worldwide epidemic. AIDS is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). By killing or damaging cells of the body's immune system, HIV progressively destroys the body's ability to fight infections and certain cancers.

Avatar m tn With unprotected vaginal sex, do you know of any statistics with what chances are for getting HIV from an HIV or AIDS infected person? Are chances higher to contract the virus through anal sex vs vaginal? I will definitely get tested (normally get tested for STDs anually which I would assume would also test for HIV). Do you have a recommendation for specific tests I should get that would put all my fears, 100%, to rest?
Avatar m tn I have read many conflicting things on the internet about the asymptomatic time period of hiv, I have read the average amount of years before you develop AIDS without treatment is 10 years. What is the average amount of time before most people know they have hiv (develop symptoms that alert them) and does this differ by age at time of infection. Do people in their 20's differ from those in their 40's 50's and even 60's?

Avatar m tn HIV and AIDS lower immunity. An overview of individual studies showed that people with HIV or AIDS have a risk of liver cancer that is five times higher than people who don't have HIV or AIDS. "present meds can not be mixed with 30+ years of neurological meds " What meds can't be mixed with what neurological meds? Who says this is true? A hepatologist at a liver transplant center?
Avatar m tn NO RISK at all for HIV from anything you describe above - NO TESTING NEEDED - NO WORRY about HIV at all Period! With that said, enough is enough - We really have nothing more to add Hope this helps Kindly Move Along...
Avatar f tn Vance why is that not possible? as sex workers sleep with hundreds of guys, all I want to know is. what test can I do to rule out other rare subtypes? I rather be safe then sorry, with all my symptoms.
Avatar f tn I'm a fan of early testing and early treatment so I would talk to my doctor about these, if I were in your shoes. HIV test is done at 4 weeks after last exposure. Choose a 4th gen HIV test. If you are in the US, you will have to specifically ask for it. Unfortunately there are still too many doctors using 3rd gen tests, when this is readily available. In UK, a 4 week 4th gen test is considered conclusive.

It is not considered abnormal in infants unless it lasts longer than a couple of weeks. Candida can also cause yeast infections in the vagina.
Avatar n tn what I understand, admittedly as a lay person, is that the PCR has a second, brief, window period when it may not detect HIV. This occurs, supposedly, because the viral load of HIV shoots up quickly, and then may fall quickly to undetectable levels after the body first produces antibodies. But the thing is that if the PCR is in its second window with a potential for false negatives, it would follow that there are enough antibodies for an ELISA to detect it.
Avatar n tn You need to see a herpes-knowledgeable health care provider. I simply don't know what's going on.
Avatar m tn 4) Its something related to HIV, this virus working mechanism is still not known yet and every thing about it is still under study after 30 years from they consider it the AIDS cause, this virus was never isolated by it self from any patient beside after reading some papers and if we put the denialism ideas away and think of the co factors that became under more study we could see soon they could figure that this virus have so many components and that you can have some of those microbes and de
Avatar m tn //www.cdc.gov/hiv/topics/testing/resources/qa/be_tested.htm. ***** Here is the San Francisco AIDS foundations interpretation of this: he "window period" is the time it takes for a person who has been infected with HIV to react to the virus by creating HIV antibodies. This is called seroconversion.
Avatar n tn 33% chance happens and happens alot millions of times to be exact since 40 million people live with hiv/aids So if a 3 month test was also 99.77% conclusive(which its not) you still cant be very sure because we all see that the odd's no matter how low they are seem to screw us So how can we be sure at all???
Avatar m tn From the CDC website, I added up the potential for stds in men in my state(chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphillis, HIV/AIDS, genital herpes, and genital warts (let me know if I am missing any)) and came up with a .89% chance them being infected. I did not account for the gay aspect for syphillis or HIV. This would probably only change my number minimally. So I guess thats my possibilty of getting infected if there is a 100% transfer rate for all STDS I looked at.
Avatar f tn So is referring to HIV/AIDS as an 'auto-immune disease'. (as happens on their site) What?! It's basically the opposite! It's likely these people mean well, but they seem more like enthusiastic 'true-believers' than MS advocates.
Avatar m tn Went to my doctor and did the HIV test about 4-5 times, and all the rest of the tests of course - nothing was wrong but was told to calm down as I probably have feeling of guilt - the problem was that I DID NOT FEEL GUILTY - just concerned. I am seeing a psychiatrist because I did not feel guilty.
Avatar f tn part II Dr. Latino, Medizone's president stated; "These preliminary research results indicate the capability of Medizone's patented scientific and technological process to inactivate blood and blood products of certain viral contaminants, including the AIDS virus." Including the above monkey trial, Medizone has so far submitted to the FDA all the following data: 1.
Avatar f tn I just thought i'd post on here to see if anyone could help me with some questions I have. I'll give you a quick overview, promise i'll keep it short. I am a 21 year old female, generally good health, weight, non-smoker etc. About 3 months ago I noticed a swollen lymph node under my left ear, near the end of my jaw. It is about an inch across and 1.5cm in length. It does not hurt at all, unable to move it, and can see it under my skin.
475555 tn?1469307939 com/metro/content/metro/stories/2006/09/09/0910MESHcdcmorale.html when Congress decided to fund HIV/AIDS, an industry emerged. Like other industries, the HIV/AIDS industry is attempting to grow. Its growth strategy is to control the HCV epidemic. Notable, "generalizing" deadly bloodborne pathogen diseases, like HCV, enforces HIV non-profit's purpose for its mission above public health needs.
Avatar f tn I was pulled off of the medication after my doctor's office tested the T-cell levels of all of their patients on it, and ALL of us came back with T-cell counts below 200 (150-500 is normal, 200 is the level when a person with HIV is considered to have AIDS, below 20 is considered "critical" - my counts came back at 13, another patient's at 8). The doctors felt this left us at risk of infections and advised us to think about if we wanted to remain on the medication. I chose not too.
Avatar f tn Unlike other chronic infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, people with hepatitis C can be cured of the virus. This means that drug therapy can remove hepatitis C from a person’s blood so that it cannot be detected even when using very sensitive tests. Sustained virological response, or SVR – also known as viral cure – occurs when a person’s hepatitis C remains undetectable six months after treatment ends.

Avatar m tn I've had tons of blood tests--CBCs, hormone levels (thyroid, testosterone, free testosterone), HIV, Lyme, ANAs, Rheumatoid factor, sedimentation rate, some kind of inflammation-detecting test...all normal. Most new doctors I've gone to have been freaked out when I tell them about this stuff, but then they see my labs and basically act as if I am insane.
Avatar m tn The verdict on alternatives curing is in, they don't, but the verdict at least for HIV people is that viral reduction equals longer life. 30 years is the average time from HIV to full blown AIDS now, whereas it used to be less than 5 years from being diagnosed. This is all due to keeping the VL very low. Obviously adjuncts have so far proved incapable of cure, but which of you who have not been able to REACH a cure using SOC would not gladly trade a viral load of 2 million for 10 thousand??
