480448 tn?1426952138 I am very honored to be a regular contributor on the HIV Prevention Forum here at MH. The forum is very busy, and we often get the same inquiries over and over. I figured that putting together a journal entry covering the most popular topics, and just laying out the facts may be helpful. I also invite Lizzie Lou and Teak to share their thoughts, and to cover anything I may have missed.
480448 tn?1426952138 Too add to that, in 18 years of being a nurse, I've worked closely with several wonderful ID docs, also specializing in HIV/AIDS, most for quite some time...some with 30+ years in the medical field, specializing in infectious diseases. Their comments were the same. While they often said they wouldn't be comfortable saying something was impossible (that's a doctor thing), they all said that oral sex carried no risk.
1024580 tn?1331577721 We have moved from rudimentary tests in the early 1980's to modern, accurate, easy to use third and fourth generation HIV testing methods in 2010. HIV 1 and 2 antibody tests in use in the UK will be either third or fourth generation test. Modern third generation tests will identify well over 99% of newly infected HIV positive people at 6 weeks after exposure even though they are licensed for use after 12 weeks after a possible exposure.
Avatar f tn I am not aware of any information that suggests that minocycline, or for that matter, any other antibiotic acts to either increase risk for HIV acquisition or would modify the performance of tests for HIV. Current tests for HIV look for antibodies. Antibody production in response to infection is not changed by antibiotics, menses or any of the other factors. The results of HIV antibody tests are to be believe.
Avatar m tn 28 am Well, it could be HIV (actually a low-lymphocyte count wouldn't necessarily suggest cancer, unless we're talking about some particular types of leukemia..) It could also be malnourishment, you could be recovering from a recent infection, be taking medication which affects your lymphocyte count (such as corticosteroids), or auto-immune conditions.
Avatar m tn They did not have sex and she was still a virgin when she became my girlfriend. Throughout the year we were together, she did not show any symptoms of having HIV or AIDS. She is my first girlfriend too and I've never got into any sexual contact with other girls. This might be an uneducated question and although I'm not showing any symptoms after 6 month of that incident, I'm really paranoid. Is it possible for me to contract HIV from her with the information I've given to you?
Avatar m tn Dude, you have to understand this, you're descrbing AIDS symptoms. HIV does not become AIDS so quickly! The only thing you can get on your skin is Kaposi's Sarkoma, and that takes years to develop! Chat me up in case you need to talk.
Avatar m tn If there is not HIV when what are all those people are sick with? Test to check for it. I had taken about 30-50tests because of my oxydative stress oral lesions. They don't buy here in the US that HBV causes oxydative stress. That is why I had so many HIV tests. I almost went crazy from taking so many of these... But I have seen people in AIDS centers. The virus is real. It may have been a lab engineered virus of HTLV modification, that I wont argue.
Avatar n tn Despite the billions of kissing events in the AIDS era, not one case of HIV has been known to be transmitted that way, even though millions of those kisses undoubtedly were with cuts in the mouth or on the lips. There is no need for HIV testing, even if your kissing partner was at high risk for HIV (e.g., gay man, injection drug user), and even if s/he is known to have HIV.

Avatar m tn After 8 weeks i was tested negative for HIV with HIV Rapid test. Again on 17th July 2010(that is today) i have attended ELISA (HIV 1 & 2) tests. And the results says 0.175( less than .422 negative and greaterthan .422 Positive).I had this ELISA test conducted at a good lab. When i visited the Urologist he said its negative only. Avatar m tn html I found this quote in my obsessive searching of the net to prove to myself I dont have hiv but then on the same site I saw under HIV AIDS they say it can take 3-6months UGH!!!
Avatar f tn I want to marry my boyfriend and grow old with him, but what if I gave him HIV and it turns into AIDS? I really, really want to have kids someday, but how can I put them at even a small risk of having this disease? I don't really know what I'm looking for here... just please don't tell me I was stupid. I know I was stupid. Grasping the facts of just how stupid I was has almost been enough to put me in ANOTHER depression, for crying out loud.

Avatar m tn I asked the person that works here at my job if he has HIV and he says no, that he was tested in October, 2010 negative. My fear is also that if I indeed have it, I have a girlfriend that I had sex with since then. I just fear of giving her it if I've been exposed. Right now, it's been a month since this occurred. I've checked my temperature and it checks out ok, between 98.6 and 99.1.
Avatar m tn You had oral sex which is not a risk of HIV and you tested negative so you dont have HIV. Their is nothing else to say as the facts PROVE this. Please dont spout rubbish from google because you can find anything you want on their and this forum will not allow posts that create fear for other posters with non factual paranoia old dated rubbish. Its time you spent more time with the doctors getting help for your concerns.
Avatar m tn I'll be pleased to make some comments and suggestions but I really think that you already have the necessary factual knowledge available about HIV risk for HIV and that what you are really wrestling with is that you solicited partners on Craig's list where you know you are likely to find partners who are at somewhat higher risk than you rare comfortable with, at least in retrospect…. and at least the second one was.
Avatar m tn Hello Doctor, I would be thankful from the bottom of my heart if you could advise me: The following is my case. I had two possible exposures: 1) Sep 2009 - A stripper gave me blow for a min or so without any condom. At that time, I had no idea about this is also a possible way of getting infected. 2) Nov 2010 - I went to Tijuana, Mexico and with one of the hookers there, the following happened. I was in my underpants, through which she blew me.
264121 tn?1313033056 "Thanks to the success of HIV meds, HIV patients now have a NORMAL life expectancy.....that's 77.8 years. We can't say the same for Hep C patients. " This is not factually correct. HIV patients have a shorter than average lifespan. Much depends on age, time of infection, start of antiretroviral therapy, and means of acquisiton. This just came out in Lancet: "Life expectancy for HIV positive people is still not normal.
Avatar m tn 1)HIV DUO test 2)p24 by ELFA 3)HIV proviral DNA - realtime 4)HIV RNA qualitative (COBAS TAQMAN) with a sensitivity of 20 copies/ml. all these done after 14 days should be highly accurate and is considered conclusive by the aids specialist i talked to who is also on a panel of doctors on WHO's panel against aids.
1301089 tn?1290670171 The survey, developed by Metro TeenAIDS, a group dedicated to helping young people fight against HIV/AIDS, was intended to raise awareness of sexually transmitted diseases and teach the children how to avoid them, MyFoxDC.com reported. But some parents at Hardy Middle School complained that the questions crossed the line, sparking the principal to put the survey on hold, the Georgetown Dish reported. The students were asked their genders -- whether male, female or transgender.
678069 tn?1254426377 //www.cdc.gov/std/treatment/2010/hepc.htm Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is the most common chronic bloodborne infection in the United States; an estimated 3.2 million persons are chronically infected (449). Sexual transmission of HCV had been considered to occur rarely.
Avatar m tn The same day I felt pain under arms, after four days it went away, I decided to test, since it was 43 days after exposer, December 27' 2010. The blood test I took was antibody test on febraury 10 2010' STD plus HIV, so it was 6 weeks after the exposer. It was not rapid test, but a HIV center, the Netherlands. After four days the sent me a SMS that all negative.

Avatar m tn Actually, unlike HIV/AIDs, hep c can live outside the body for up to 4 days. However it's not an STD and there has to be blood to blood transmission with an infected party to contract the virus.
Avatar f tn Friday I was visiting my aunt in hospice and while the aids were making her comfortable I wandered into the family lounge where the television was tuned to the Dr Oz show. He had some soap opera stars on as guests and they were asking health related questions. One of the guests said he had a friend with Hepatitis C and asked if there was any cure that was an alternative to interferon/ribavarin. I was absolutely shocked by the response. Dr. Oz stated that HCV was passed by sexual activity.
