Avatar m tn The survey of 230,179 cases of AIDS reported to the AIDS Reporting System initially revealed 299 HIV-seronegative patients. The evaluation of 172 of these patients (58 percent) is complete. Of these 172 patients, 131 have been reclassified as being HIV-positive, 4 have been reclassified as having some other type of defined immunodeficiency, and 8 HIV-exposed infants died before their serostatus could be determined.
Avatar n tn Acer, a dentist who was shared by the six patients and who died of complications of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). So how could a HIV postive dentist spread HIV to six people if HIV can't survive outside the body?? And the CDC said he didn't have sex or use drugs with any of these people. Do you guys have any insights?? Any help would be great thanks!!!

Avatar m tn HIV can be transmitted due to sharing needles, this is because the blood interact. Unfortunately, there is no cure for HIV (note that HIV isn't the same as AIDS) but treatment for this virus is really advanced. There are medications that permit people live a completely normal life with HIV without developing AIDS. I hope everything is ok, post your results. Personally, I think you didn't involve in high risk. This virus is very fragile and die easily at normal temperature.
Avatar m tn dear expert , respected nursing girl , rain lover , i read a lot of post about hiv , cdc gudiline said that if hiv blood is wet then hiv virus is active (live) in the wet blood few hours and hiv virus it can survive in wet condition , out side the human body , and if hiv blood is dry then hiv virus unactive and unable to infect !

Avatar m tn Dear doctor, I am a Chinese, I am sorry my English is very poor, I hope you can help me. I go to the barber shop, barber electric clippers to touch my acne bleeding. If the person in front of me to have AIDS and the barber electric clippers to touch his pimples are bleeding. Between our two barber electric hair clippers without disinfection. Avatar m tn CDC report that condom is not 100% efficient barrier for HIV.so how can HIV virus enter if i use latex condom...if the tip of the penis is covered ten haw can virus come in the condom..my penis was fully covered.y latex condom is not 100% protected according to CDC?
Avatar f tn There have been a few reports where autoimmune diseases (eg, systemic lupus erythematosus) can cause false-positive HIV tests, including Western blot.(35) Also, it is known that some individuals with AIDS may lose reactivity to p24, and perhaps other antibodies, later in disease, so that even AIDS patients may have indeterminate Western blot results by some criteria.
Avatar m tn The problem is one that has been cited by many reserachers. Often participants in sexually activity perform anal or vaginal sex in addition to oral so it is difficult to know how the transmission actually occurred. Also we are basing an assumption on 19,000 acts of oral sex with no transmission and one study. That might be the best data to date but people are still claiming to be infected via oral so there can't be that many people lying about it.
Avatar n tn The information on CDC is not always up-to-date, nor is it in line with current trends, many experts on HIV disregard much of the information prsented on the CDC website.
Avatar m tn I guess I was looking for supporting info. Cdc just says hiv does not live long. ... my concern is My hiv tester opened and put the bandaid on the clinic counter. Are you saying there is nothing to worry about in case there was infected blood on the counter that had access to my bloodstream via the fingerprick and bandaid. Any comment of blood splash on nurses open wounds?
Avatar m tn Oral sex has a very small risk but finally a risk, there are a lot if variables that increse or reduce the risk, and there are a lot of studies, some said 0% risk others said 8% risk, but the CDC (by the way very conservative) says1 in 20000, in receiving oral sex an 1 in 10000 in giving oral sex (to man), that can be reduced with condoms, and increased if there is visible blood in the mouth or by eyaculating in the mouth, and the other variables are the viral load of the hiv + partner (high at
Avatar m tn so you are sharing toilet paper? eewwhhhhh ! ! ! this is not a risk for contracting hiv.
Avatar f tn I first decided that I should test myself to make sure that i was negative, now though I keep getting scared that my results are innacurate. I tested myself using oraquick almost, four times (starting in October) after my last sexual exposure, which was with a condom in July (23rd), the test results all came back negative.

Avatar m tn Hello. I've heard CDC reps on the phone tell people anyone can take 6 months to seroconversion and only 97% of people become positive in 3 months. What catagorys do the other 3% fall under?
Avatar n tn Teak, are you a medical expert? 1)Why does the cdc recommend testing at 6 months? 2)why were lancets left in a drawer that anyone could get to and poke themselves with?
Avatar m tn 30 years into the HIV\AIDS global pandemic and not a single person has ever been infected with HIV via kissing. Why? Because Kissing poses no risk of HIV infection. FACT.
