Avatar f tn When working in the medical field and dealing with patients' that have HIV and AIDS why would information of this kind be more sensitive than other types of health conditions? With this in mind what would the social, legal, and ethical ramification of improper information disclosure of sensitive topics like this be for a medical practice or facility? I am also having a hard time understand ICD-9-CM codes. I understand that a general medical examination is V70.
Avatar m tn How did he know that he got HIV? Did he get the HIV test after he found out she died of AIDS? Did he put his wife at risk of HIV?
Avatar m tn But, the need for public awareness of this disease needs to grow beyond support groups. It's about time that heppers take to the streets and march like the HIV/AIDS folks did and wake up the sleeping apathetic masses to the real magnitude at which this disease exists, not only here stateside but around the world.
Avatar f tn There needs to be more awareness about safe sex,i think it all stopped when the new ARVs came out and HIV AIDS was no longer classed as a death sentence. This is when people started becoming complacent.
936016 tn?1332769204 Many of the questions we answer on this Forum and also the Freedomhealth Sexual Health Forum relate to anxiety about HIV and also possible early HIV symptoms. One of the main problems in relying on HIV symtoms themselves is that they are notoriously vague and almost all the symptoms may in fact be symptoms of a different disease. The best method always of diagnosing HIV is to have a modern HIV test.
Avatar f tn I had recently seen a commercial featuring a vibrant HIV+ woman representing a new organization dedicated to HIV/AIDS awareness by the telecommunications industry. I visited their website, which seems like a step in the right direction to HIV/AIDS education. They have an interesting HIV-FAQ page that seems to be on the conservative side but informative nonetheless. http://www.cablepositive.org/hivinfo-faq.
Avatar n tn That you could read his profile, learn the man is living with AIDS, teaches HIV/AIDS awareness classes and was a paramedic for many, many years, and then ask him which website he got his information from...........!!!!! Sorry jack, but your insensitivity is nearly as mind boggling as your ignorance.
Avatar m tn There is 'aids awareness day' and other such events which are covered by the media.
Avatar m tn I had an event at my school for AIDS awareness day yesterday and I thought it would be a good deed to society to get tested. I go to school in the Bronx in NY, and I went to one of the department of health's to get tested. It was not exactly the cleanest place in there and it was FILLED with people getting tested. This sounds really ironic but, my test came up negative but should i go get tested again in the next coming months from risk of getting HIV from the health department place?
242985 tn?1192591669 It's amazing how something lasting 2 seconds in late July can keep you preoccupied for so long. I now am a very active member at my University's HIV/AIDS support campaign and it feels good to be able to help people that are going through something so hard. My 6 weeks was negative though, and I hope my 12 weeks will be the same, but regardless I will continue to help out where I can.
Avatar m tn When HIV was first discovered in the US during the 80's it made great headline news. There was also a push for HIV awareness in the media so we were hearing about it left and right. Because epidemics make good headlines the media has bombarded us with all sorts of scary things. This can cause many people to be afraid! But living in fear is not living. You are more likely to get struck by lightening than you are to get HIV.
422881 tn?1257607179 RecordID=12793 I’m thinking it would be nice for the medical community and the general public to be more educated about hepatitis and hopefully it would increase the funding for research in this area like it did for HIV/AIDS. It is a shame that 4 to 5 times more people are infected with hepatitis than with HIV/AIDS but yet Hep only receives a fraction of the funds to be spent on research, education, prevention, etc. Sorry if this has already been posted here before.
Avatar f tn As anyone with OCD or a phobia knows, the best way to get rid of it is to face it head on and for the past year thats what i've been trying to do. I've even become a volunteer for my local Aids project and done HIV/AIDS walks to help those who are living with this condition and to show my support, learning everything i can about HIV to lessen the fear. You'd think i'd be doing well right? WRONG On to my situation: I'm in dire need of some help here.
Avatar n tn Once this blows all away, I want to be able to raise a campaign for HIV/STD awareness as I do believe we are all living in a very precarious world, and possibly we do not have all the correct facts out there for the public to know. Thank you very much Doc, no more questions for you, promise. Strangeworld will confirm results tomorrow to you and Doc. And you too pleae sit and relax.
Avatar f tn The report said more than 12,400 people in the city — about 1 in 50 — are living with AIDS or H.I.V., the virus that causes AIDS. “H.I.V./AIDS in the district has become a modern epidemic with complexities and challenges that continue to threaten the lives and well-being of far too many residents,” said the report, which includes the first-ever study of statistics on H.I.V. in the city, along with updated data on AIDS cases. The H.I.V.
Avatar n tn 3)Does a test for HIV-1 pick up anything on HIV-2? Most tests given for HIV look for both HIV-1 and HIV-2. But if you did use a test for some reason which was exclusive to HIV-1, because of cross reaction you'd pick up most but not all of the HIV-2 infected people. It would not be high enough to rely on, however.
Avatar m tn He and I actually volunteer for the same AIDS awareness organization. We have both been trained in STD/HIV prevention, but we obviously let one time slip. He works as a transporter at a local hospital, and he told me he was tested and HIV- as of two weeks prior to us hooking up. I was tested using the 30-min blood test on February 21st, 2008, allowing myself 8 weeks. The result was negative.
Avatar m tn Maybe I am a little slow sometimes, but I didn't realize until this morning that each state had a number you could call to answer questions about HIV/AIDS. Oh well. So, I decided to pick 5 and call them. I explained my situation to each of them and told them my test history (1 week, 6 weeks, 12 weeks, 5 months). Everyone of them told me (in so many words) that I had nothing to worry about and that I had overtested. Here is my question.
Avatar m tn A suggestion is maybe he should meet "people with HIV" to show that even if he did have HIV its not the end of the world. People with "HIV" are living 30+ years after the diagnosis, medicines are getting better, people's awareness is getting better, and people with "HIV" are educating people and how to prevent "HIV" I realize that after (12) weeks of HIV negative test that I do not have HIV. I have been tested (5) times in (12) weeks.
Avatar n tn (THIS IS WHAT NEEDS TO BE STOPPED IN ORDER TO EFFECTIVELY COMBAT HIV/AIDS)(IN ORDER TO FIGHT HIV/AIDS EVERYONE MUST PLAY THEIR OWN ROLE AND INDIVIDUALS CAN'T BE FINDING OUT ABOUT THIS INCONSISTENCY MINUTES BEFORE TESTING....IT ONLY WEAKENS FAITH IN THE TESTING AND THOSE ADMINISTERING THE TEST, AND CAUSES EXTREME ANXIETY) If we are really trying to increase public awareness and stop the proliferation of such a disease......people must know as soon as possible if they've been infected......
Avatar n tn i have even been thinking of getting into an aids / hiv foundation or awareness campaign whatever happens. being in this position is really hard and i would love to have known better and been more aggressive about protection - but we know its really hard when youre in the middle of it. i hope i dont have hiv. i hope these are just insect bites and a flare up of acne. this has definitely tested me and has changed me! omg. ill post when i get back from the test later on today.
Avatar n tn People are more likely to progress from HIV to 'full-blown AIDS' (this term is not really used anymore but it is immediately understood which is why I am using it) - People who are not taking ARTs often have increased viral loads which means they transmit the virus even more readily. - is sex work a factor? Yes, just as it is in this country. That said, I believe the above-mentioned reasons are much more salient. Africa is a continent not a country.
Avatar n tn After so much awareness about AIDS/HIV in world, how can you do same mistake of unprotected sex with sex workers.. remember Luck does not support you always...!! test at 13 week would be conclusive..
Avatar m tn I think symptoms would have something to do with HIV, if they're caused by the virus. And I imagine that HIV/AIDS research has something to do with studying the symptoms of the seroconversion illness. Apart from that I'll take your advice about testing.
Avatar m tn I bet you secretly think that based on your extensive knowledge hiv/aids that i have the tell tales signs of testing hiv posiive but your putting on the kid gloves for now right?
Avatar f tn To get to my questions, my boyfriend recently travelled to Rwanda for 4 weeks on a human rights delegation and worked with a group of young HIV positives to raise awareness of safe sex and support for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. He just returned and Ive been spending some time with him but have been unable to bring myself to have sex with him due to my fears and I cannot talk to him about it because I know he would be upset if I asked.
Avatar f tn You are not HIV positive and you are not in danger of becoming HIV positive unless you have unprotected intercourse with an HIV positive person, all the ways that HIV is really transmitted. Only the facts...not the fictions. You need to ask your therapist about teaching you CBT. You need to learn to stop these thoughts at the get go and not let them go on and on until you are consumed with them. Let me know how your "exposure therapy" goes.
Avatar m tn It was for a website that promote HIV and AIDS awareness- www.vir.us. I comprehend the method it transmit as per mentioned by Teak and yourself but I can't understand how the virus get from A to B. e.g. Flu - A has flu, sneeze in front of B and B inhales... virus get into body this infected. based on your reply, I assumed its the same as well... bodily fluid from A mixing with bodily fluid B hence exposure. Correct?
Avatar n tn it's sad how many people are unaware/uneducated about hiv/aids infection. ok let's say i am positive, that doesn't mean sitting beside me would get you infected less I cut myself open and cut you open too and smear my blood all over your wound or rape you or something like that. it's quite sad. actually, i am trying to raise awareness of hiv in that clinic. i doubt many gets them tests there...in fear and pride. it's understandable.
