Avatar m tn Was your son also tested for the actual thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4? If not, he should be. TSH levels are, typically, higher in infants; what was the range given on the lab report? Your son must have adequate thyroid hormones in order to grow and develop normally; treatment is just as effective and necessary in infants, as it is in adults.
Avatar f tn Breast milk alone will not replace the absent thyroid hormone in your infant if he /she was born without a thyroid gland. My daughter was also born without a thyroid gland in 2000. I breast fed her for a year and she was on Synthroid the whole time, which she began at 3 weeks of age. Proper brain growth/development and body growth is dependant on the proper levels of thyroid hormone in the body.
Avatar n tn Doctor suspects I had hyperparathyroidis during this pregnancy. I am very lucky there were no complications with delivery. Infant had high respiratory rate during first day after birth, but now seems normal. Is there any recommended test or bloodwork I should have done for infant to make sure either his parathyroid wasn't damaged or for other issues like Vitamin D deficiency. I am currently taking Vitamin D, as I was also diagnosed w/ Vitamin D deficiency post-partum.

Avatar f tn Ladies, I came across this article while reading the news on yahoo. I do not think it is right that they would not tell what formula's were studied. ATLANTA - Traces of a chemical used in rocket fuel were found in samples of powdered baby formula, and could exceed what's considered a safe dose for adults if mixed with water also contaminated with the ingredient, a government study has found. The study by scientists at the U.S.
362203 tn?1248810310 Concerns about antithyroid drugs center on the risk of thyroid suppression and goiter in the nursing infant, and cite concerns over potential nonthyroid side effects of antithyroid drugs, for example, autoimmune disturbances.
Avatar n tn 5 month old son has numerous little problems, when he was born everything seemed fine, after a few months it was found that he had right tortacullus( he gets physio) stridor due to laryngomalacia, severe reflux( he is on prevacid due to numerous choking episodes and low weight) He also is on his 3rd ekg since the left ventricle reading is always high.
Avatar f tn The other causes of permanent CH are inherited defects in the ability to synthesize and secret thyroid hormone (10% of CH cases); defect in the thyroid hormone transport mechanism; central hypothyroidism (hypothalamic or pituitary problems). Transient (temporary) CH occurs in around 10 - 20% of births.

Avatar m tn You should post a thread with your TSH and Free T4 in the Thyroid Disorders Community. Do you have symptoms of a thyroid condition? You can access the Thyroid Disorders community via the following link: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn My daughter was born without a thyroid gland. The thyroid hormone in your breast milk (and thyroid that they are born with that came from you while they were in utero) can sway the labs some. It can mask the problem, making the numbers contradict and confuse the doctors into thinking there is not a problem when there really is. This exact thing happened with my daughter. She had elivated TSH which was from her body, however her t4 was in normal range (from my body/milk).
Avatar n tn Thank you for the information - you confirmed some of what I had read in "Thyroid for Dummies". And regards my last lab, I think that was when my endocrinologist switched me from 88 mcg back to 75 mcg. Thanks for the help.
Avatar f tn I agree that the thyroid condition (if there is one) would be manageable in most cases. What was your final decision?
Avatar m tn s Hospital. We came here after spending a night in the ER at a different hospital where we brought him in because he had a high-pitched cry, was lethargic and limp, pale and refusing to eat (he is exclusively breast fed), and then he gurgled up thick white curdled mucousy milk. (Lottie816- I noticed that his symptoms were the same as your daughters, which I found interesting.
Avatar f tn I have seen or should I say heard this in a friends baby the screeches wre so high pitched they made one jump we always thought she enjoyed hearing her own voice as she giggled afterwards, it did moderate as she got older.
