Avatar n tn A little while ago i had a nondiabetic doctor recommend a low carbohydrate diet to help keep my blood sugars low and when i mentioned it to my endocrinologist she said that that type of diet puts extra strain on the kidneys and since diabetics are already prone to kidney problems they should avoit it. i would recommend that at your next doctor appointment you ask to be referred to a dietician to go over the proper diet aspects for a diabetic.
Avatar n tn Higher protein diets (low carbohydrate diets) are a good way to lose body fat, but often are higher in fat. Fat is often high in calories, but you can chose healthier fats. So if you would consider a high protein diet, you would almost have to forget about a caloric intake.

Avatar n tn I think you're making a common mistake in thinking about food, which is that protein is good and carbs are bad. This isn't at all true -- the majority of your diet should be carbs. Vegetables, for example, the core of a healthy diet, are carbs, whereas beef is very high in fat on purpose and hard to digest despite being high in protein and so is never weight-loss food.
Avatar f tn Food, in other words, is way more complex than any diet recognizes but if you want to do low carb eat high protein foods. These would include, again, nuts, seeds, legumes, and animal foods.

Eating high carbohydrate foods like cereal, pancakes, bread, fruit, vegetables, potato, pasta on a daily basis can help you train harder and compete better. All the best.
Avatar n tn It is great that you are physically active as this will help in your management. You also do need to follow a low carbohydrate diet. This means that you will limit rice, grains, sugars, and most of your diet will be based around vegetables and protein sources (are you vegetarian). I would also recommend that you see your doctor and discuss your results with your doctor, and start regular monitoring with your Dr.
Avatar f tn A Ketogenic Diet (high fat, adequate protein, low carbohydrate diet) is highly recommended. This diet is also called the LCHF (low carb high fat) diet (see the blog Diet Doctor for more info). I eat the LCHF diet and my cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides are all in optimal range, i'm losing weight and improving my insulin resistance. It's a diet that can help more than seizures. :) "After 4 weeks we weaned his Depokote and put him on Zonegram. That didn't help either.
Avatar f tn We were able to increase the remission rate to 50-70% by using a low-carbohydrate high-protein diet. (Remission refers to no further need for insulin.) Antech Diagnostic News, December 2003: In one study, 68% of cats with diabetes mellitus fed a carbohydrate-restricted canned diet lost the need for exogeneous insulin.
Avatar f tn Follow a low protein, high carbohydrate diet; minimize consumption of foods of animal origin. Eliminate milk and milk products. Avoid all polyunsaturated vegetable oils, margarine, vegetable shortening and products made with partially hydrogenated oils Increase intake of omega-3 fatty acids by eating more cold-water fish, walnuts or freshly ground flaxseeds. You may also want to consider taking a fish oil supplement to help keep your protein intake low.
Avatar f tn After adjusting for potential confounders, the researchers found a high-protein diet was associated with an increased risk of hospitalization or death resulting from cirrhosis or liver cancer, while a high-carbohydrate diet was associated with a decreased risk. They also found that high cholesterol consumption -- but not serum cholesterol or total fat consumption -- was associated with an increased risk of cirrhosis or liver cancer.
Avatar n tn This prevents the spikes (low and high) from occurring. The symptoms you are feeling are all signs of low blood sugar. Have you been tested? If not you should get a fasting blood sugar or a hemoglobin A1C. Some people just need to eat more often and less big of a meal such as a protein snack and may not have true hypoglycemia. You should get it checked to be sure.
Avatar m tn high fat damages the liver adequate-protein is ok but from vegetable or little white meat, no red meat, no diaries low-carbohydrate leads nowhere, it is processed and refined carbohydrates to increase blood glucose which makes damage, so the problems is refined cereals not not carbohydrates the answer is orgains-raw carbohydrates which still contain the fibers which block too fast glucose absorption, they must be bio because you have more poisons/pesticides on the surface of raw carbohydrates
1660289 tn?1302556798 s most appropriate and natural diet, I would look more at canned foods such as Evo where there is a high meat protein content and a low carbohydrate content. While the Innova Senior and the California Natural are both nice foods, they still contain a higher amount of carbohydrates than is conducive for your dog's condition.
Avatar f tn While it is normal to have a rise in blood sugar level after a meal, excessive rise in blood sugar levels could indicate inappropriate dosage/ timing of injecting the insulin or excessive or inappropriate proportion of carbohydrate in diet. You could start by slightly lowering the carbohydrate and increasing the protein portion of diet. If this does not seem to help, I would suggest consulting your treating endocrinologist for adjustment in dosage/ timing of the insulin. Hope this is helpful.
Avatar f tn Obese adults followed one of the two diets for two years. Those on the low-carb diet had significantly higher cravings for carbohydrates and high-fat foods, although they were less bothered by hunger.
Avatar f tn ” The “calorie is not a calorie” theory has been further substantiated by a recent JAMA study showing that a “low fat” diet resulted in the greatest decrease in energy expenditure, an unhealthy lipid pattern, and increased insulin resistance in comparison with a low carbohydrate and low glycaemic index diet.
Avatar n tn There are thousands of good books out there on healthy eating if you wish to experiment yourself, running the gamut from macrobiotics and vegetarian to diets such as the above running high on animal protein and low on grains. You can also see a holistic nutritionist if you require individual guidance. And exercise is essential. Good luck.
720228 tn?1530911279 I personally do not think there is a special diet for Diabetics, basically they have to eat less of everything plus keeping in mind the amount of sugar in what they eat/drink e.g. sugar free drinks and these are good for everyone including children. If any one parent has Diabetes care is required with children's diet. Higher protein is good for Diabetics but just as good for everyone especially children.
Avatar n tn This is logical for the type 2 diabetic, for eating a fairly low-carbohydrate diet would not require the production of as much insulin by the already stressed pancreas. However, if insulin resistance is the main problem for a type 2 diabetic, then lowering the carb count may not really be the solution, and medications to help the insulin-resistance problem still may be needed.
Avatar f tn ll find advocates for high protein diets, high carb diets, and everything in between. The important thing is what kind of carbs -- some are quite healthy and some are not.
Avatar f tn What happens is the body will try to retain its’ protein, and carbohydrate ‘stores’ within the body and you may not able to lose weight. The body does not know the difference if it is ‘starving’ due to self-infliction (skip meals or very low calorie intake) or environment factors (no food to eat). Hoped this helped you.
Avatar n tn Have you heard of insulin resistance? This may be partially to blame for hypoglycemia if it is "rebound", meaning her blood sugars may not sharply exceed the high levels, but if she eats a heavy meal -especially one high in simple carbohydrates- several hours later it "crashes" giving her hypoglycemia. It was explained to me that the insulin triggers becomes overreactive and dump a large amount of insulin in response to the free sugars in her system.
1802952 tn?1315981161 Eating a higher protein, lower carbohydrate diet with lots of vegetables and fruits and healthy fats is the way to go!
Avatar m tn Hi, You can stick to protein-rich foods and eliminate nearly all fat and limit carbohydrate intake to lose weight. When your body finds that it does not have any carbohydrate easily available to it, it will start breaking down the fat to get energy and ends up burning more calories in the process. You should be careful to include carbohydrates in your diet so that you do not end up developing a carbohydrate craving resulting in binge eating.
