Avatar f tn I have had a large abdominal hernia since last year after having some surgery. I went to see a surgeon about it in December 2011, he said that I needed alot of mesh with the repair as I have had several abdominal surgeries and he thinks it best to reinforce some of my abdominal walls. I am a little hesitant about the mesh as I have heard some horror stories about developing infection from the mesh. What do you think?
Avatar n tn I have a completely different view of surgery for a hiatal hernia than selmaS. I had the surgery several months ago with outstanding results. Prior to having a procedure called a Nissen Fundoplication I did a great deal of research, and discovered that patients who have had the procedure report a favorable opinion of their results by a 9 out of 10 ratio. I also checked up on the available surgeons and chose one with lots of experience.
Avatar f tn Hello, Testicular pain can be due to injury, infection (Epididymitis or Orchitis) or inflammation, testicular torsion -- most common in young men between 10 and 20 years old, excessive bicycle riding, varicocele, hernia or kidney or ureteric stones. Considering your son’s symptoms epididymitis or orchitis need to be ruled out. Get an evaluation done from a urologist to confirm the diagnosis.
Avatar n tn Does this mean surgery failed? is hernia back (now they are referring to this as a paraesophageal hernia) The doctors never told us herina might be back so I am wondering when I see x-ray report and it shos Pre-demonstartion of hernia, does that mean there is a new issue or they are seeing repaired hernia? is it typical that Nissen wrap would slip so soon after surgery?
Avatar f tn i have had chronic pain in my lower right abdomen for almost 8 years. what started out as a simple inguinal hernia repair has been a nightmare. the doc put the mesh patch in for "good measure". the adhesions are massive. from many doctors i have been diagnosed as having probably 3 nerve paths trapped in the adhesions. The inguinal, hypogastric and genital femerol nerves are all involved. After years and years of procedures I have not had any pain relief that lasted more than a day.
Avatar f tn My grandson was born with congenital diaphramatic hernia and only lived 2 hours. He only had 1/4 of one lung. I asked about a lung transplant and was told he was to young. How old do you have to be to get an organ transplant? I also don't understand why they didn't do fetal surgery. I know it is risky but it would have increased his chances from zero. What hospital do you feel is the best able to deal with this condition? He was born at Parkland in Dallas, TX.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the information about possible surgery, yes I also have a hiatus hernia buy surgery wasn't mentioned at all, just repeat upper endoscopy every year. They did find Barretts but biopsy didn't show malignancy (knock on wood) but have to take PPI's for rest of my life. I have several other risks for surgery, one of the worst is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, not sure if this eliminates me from ANY surgery in the future, except (knocking wood) an emergency.
Avatar m tn This is the second time that I had a HIDA scan and in one year I have gone from 30 down to 26. I have no stones and very little pain. I have an umbilical hernia which has to be repaired with mesh and they suggested that they remove the gallbladder at the same time. Problem is that I lost a foot of intestine several years ago to diverticulitis surgery and I am afraid that if they remove my gall bladder , I will be unable to hold rushing to bathroom after eating.
3210170 tn?1346884553 Hi. My primary physician referred me to a general surgeon for hernia surgery. I have doubts about a general surgeon's ability to perform a laparoscopic bilateral procedure. Several reputable sources note that this surgery has a steep learning curve and that <200 surgeries per year would ensure enough experience. How do I find out a surgeon's experience? Are there accrediting organizations for specific procedures?
Avatar m tn I wanted to do inguinal hernia surgery but was tested positive for hepatitis B (HBsag). Does hepatitis b effect my surgery?
7072585 tn?1387735006 I feel that the medical community is not working hard or smart enough in finding ways in which to treat patients; contradicting each other, ignoring or contradicting ENT findings. My personal experiences have been a litmus test and I believe you all have encountered similar experiences. We need to organize and do something or who knows when something will be done. Please contact me at if you have been unsuccessfully treated for acid reflux at USC, UPMC, or Johns, etc... Please advise....
Avatar n tn My husband was dianosed w/ GERD and hiatal hernia. He had a Nissen surgery done & hernia repair at the same time. He is still having difficulty breathing after meals. Especially when sitting and leaning forward postition. He has seen Gastro, ENT and no one can figure it out. He has had MRI's CT scans and they can find nothing. HELP!!!! He is so frustrated with the situation he won't see anymore doctors.
Avatar m tn I have an epigastric hernia so I have surgery and fix it right? Well, my surgery is scheduled for THIS FRIDAY (two days from today) and now I am reading all of the forums and all of the bad news from patients that are sorry they went through with the surgery. ARE THERE ANY GOOD AFTER SURGERY REPORTS OUT THERE? I don't know if I will make an already bad situation worse or if there is hope for me. Please help. Thanks so much!
7444176 tn?1390859012 I am very afraid and sadden by his condition, perineal hernia. He had surgery a couple weeks before X-mas a year ago, thankful it has only been one. But the vet never told me before or after costly surgery that this would be life long. I excepted the challenge because the love I have for my animal. I have tried everything from peas and carrots in his food, fiber, laxatives, olive oil, psyllium seed, etc.
Avatar f tn It comes out like pebbles and it looks like it has a layer of fat/oily or clearish white substance that incircles each pebble. I have had hernia surgery and have had 2 feet of intestines removed. Could you give me some insight please before I go to another Dr?
Avatar f tn You should have had a upper GI Barium Swallow to see if there is a hiatal hernia. However, I had this and it showed not hernia. When I had surgery for the funoplication wrap for my valve they discovered a hiatal hernia so bad that my valve and stomach were in my upper chest cavity. With a hiatal hernia it can cause breathing problems so bad that I got panic attacks with them. Also, it might be your asphogus is raw.
Avatar f tn My surgeon is not available for another month or so because he has also had to have surgery. This pain also disappeared for a couple days and I thought all was fine but now it is back again.
Avatar f tn Surgical repair is generally avoided unless there is severe pain suggesting the intestines or tissue may be pinched or twisted along with a persistent bulge from the hernia. Surgeons who have experience in treating patients with cirrhosis should perform the operation. If the intestines get twisted in the bulge it can be very painful and dangerous. I have a belly button hernia. My doctor told me the only way they would operate would be if my intestines got twisted in the bulge.
1666825 tn?1303252659 There is a manual manipulation of the hiatal hernia that may help to see if it is the hernia...at least b4 u consider surgery.....check around ur area for a chiropractor that specializes in this....but do have ur heart checked first to be sure there is nothing else going on, and that ur GI agrees.

Avatar n tn Hello, Testicular pain can be due to injury, infection (Epididymitis or Orchitis) or inflammation, testicular torsion( most common in young men), excessive bicycle riding, hernia, varicocele or kidney or ureteric stones. As there is no swelling or inflammation or redness of the scrotal sacs, so the chances of epidiymitis or orchitis are rare.
Avatar n tn Going in for surgery Nov17'08. The total hysterectomy, hernia and sling will be performed. I am very nervous after reviewing this site and the "horror" stories told. I have fibroids pressing against the badder, which is now, poorly distended, a overly large uterus ,as well as a hernia. I have a calcified kidney stone"which is being "guarded".
Avatar m tn Can anyone tell me why doctors try so hard to avoid hiatal hernia surgery ? Specifically, if a person has done everything reasonable to minimize the effect, such as low body mass ( I was underweight before the hernia), revised diet, limited lifting, elevated head of bed, and of course proton pump inhibitors. I already know the usually surgical risks. I am ok with those. Thanks for any insight.
