Common Questions and Answers about Hernia surgery urologist

hernia-surgery

Avatar m tn I made an appointment with a urologist. After having hernia repair surgery one year ago, I am concerned about changes to my body. I'm asking for a thorough checkup and hoping to discuss my concerns. I decided to bypass my GP because I want to speak to someone who is knowledgeable about these specific issues. Am I right in my thinking? What should I say/expect from the urologist?
Avatar m tn The urologist told me that many men have complications after hernia surgery. He said that some have chronic pain. So, I guess I am OK, and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it. I still plan to talk with my physician about it when I go for a physical this month.
Avatar m tn t even evuluate me for that, and honestly I am not prepared to have hernia surgery anyway (I hope hydrocele surgery is a bit easier to recover?). I was wondering, is it pointless to repair the hydrocele only if I have hernia on the same side? It is causing me some discomfort and problems, and I want to have it fixed.
5959600 tn?1377396574 My boyfriend had double hernia surgery in the beginning of February, it's going on September and just recently he's had swelling of the veins that go into his sac, he said its very painful and it's followed by lower abdominal pain. Could this be serious and is there a certain type of doctor he should see rather than a regular check up doctor at a clinic?
Avatar n tn I went back doctor complaining of puffiness and pain in that area and she said there was a hernia and sent me to surgeon (was the same surgeon who did the previous hernia repair) and he said there was no hernia. I was then sent to urologist who said postatitis, gave me flomax and said to alter diet to avoid acidic drinks/foods. After 6 weeks of flomax and eating a bland diet there was still no improvement.
Avatar f tn 00 position but post-surgery is 4-5:00. Erection is evident but to move it to 2:00 it feels like something is pulling it down in the underside of shaft. It is now starting to have a downward bend in the middle. It's like something is attached below but not from above. I also have pain during sex most of the time. My surgeon has never heard of this. My urologist did not have an answer either.
Avatar m tn Well, if something went wrong with the surgery it might. I'm not an expert on hernia surgery, but if there was a complication, it might cause an infection. I mean, do the blood test for herpes, but make sure it's an IgG, not an IgM. At least rule it out, I guess. It won't tell you that it's causing your symptoms. Herpes doesn't cause cramping, though. Ask the urologist for an ultrasound at least.
Avatar m tn had hernia surgery in march ,hurt more now than before surgery, what the hell is going on?
Avatar m tn I am a 66 year old healthy male. Met with a highly recommended Urologist last week to have him check out my enlarged scotum. He diagnosed it as a Hydrocele (no hernia now or previous) and suggested surgery. He said that there is a 30% chance of reoccurance with the surgery. I told him I wanted to think about it. I did a lot of research and could not find a 30% chance of recurrance anywhere. The most I found on one site was 10% but most were 1%.
Avatar m tn He gave a me some antibiotics for the epidydimis and some Nsaid’s and painkillers for the hernia. He told me the hernia did not yet need surgery. Fast forward a few months the pain persisted and now it could be felt in my testicle, As my first urologist was not available i found another and went to him. This doctor didnt use the ultrasound and said he felt nothing out of the ordinary, and also told me about the hernia( without prior knowledge of my visit to the other urologist).
Avatar m tn You have to be examined by a doctor to know that. See a urologist. Not all urologists do hernia surgery, but he can evaluate all the problems and advise about surgery and do surgery for the other issues if necessary. He will explain all your options and surgery would not be done on the day of the first visit. It's just a consultation.
Avatar m tn After an inguinal hernia repair ~1 year ago, I am still experiencing erectile dysfunction and weak ejaculation. No issues whatsoever prior to surgery but issues immediately after. In the surgery report it said they had to sacrifice the genitofemoral and ilioinguinal nerve branches due to severe adhesion to the hernia. Post-operation I have not since had "morning wood" and have experienced somewhat of a decrease in size (both flaccid and erect).
Avatar m tn t complete the surgery due to the large hiatal hernia I already had. The surgeons instead changed mid-course, and performed a surgey called a vertical gastrectomy. They ended up taking out most of my stomach as it was highly herniated. I did lose quite a bit of weight, and am relatively healthy since then. Since the surgery, I have developed a problem with difficulty in urination. I have gone to the urologist several times for this problem.
Avatar f tn That sounds like the pressure of lifting has triggered an inguinal hernia. The hernia can actually go into your scrotum.

Avatar m tn Hello, thanks so much for reaching out regarding issues post-inguinal hernia surgery. Do you experience erection and ejaculation issues post surgery? Have you noticed any improvement over the years in these issues? If you have any questions for me please feel free, I've been trying to reach out to anyone who has experienced the same issues but have struggled to do so. I also found this one article that is quite an interesting read and seems to support what we are talking about: https://www.
Avatar m tn Hi, Pain in the testicle(s) should always be investigated. Reasons for a shrinking of a testicle can be due to many different causes. In 1999 I had a vasectomy, a day after my scrotum swelled to the size of an orange. Went to a locum doctor who dismissed it as swelling from the surgery. I went bag to the locum sinse it now was the size of a grapefruit. This time she sent me back to the surgeon. He immediately performed emergency surgery to remove a hematoma (blood clot).
Avatar m tn I had surgery for an inigual hernia on my right side ,open surgery. on january of 2007, soon after the surgery i started getting pain in my right testicle and severe cramping in my stomach area and extreme pain. I have seen 2 surgeons since the first surgery, the first surgeon thought it might be caused by the inigual nerve. On january 2008 i had surgery to have the nerve cut. It did not help and the pain in my testicle and groin area, as well as my abdomain has been getting worse.
Avatar n tn There are no doctors here, but I think you may have an inguinal hernia. A friend of mine had the same symptoms. He kept putting off a doctor visit due to plain embarrassment. That delay resulted in an emergency surgery to resect the dead bowel that had strangulated in the hernia. Don't do any heavy lifting and definitely go see your doctor!
Avatar f tn Recently had an epididymectomy following bouts of epididymitis after a recent inguinal hernia repair. Prior to the surgery I had isolated pain in only my epididymis. After a few rounds of antibiotics and an ultrasound my urologist recommended the epididymectomy. The first few days after surgery I felt little to no pain where it was before. However, three to four days after I have had significant pain in my groin. Very similar to the feeling you might get if you were kicked in that region.
Avatar m tn Sounds like this could be a hernia. I had ongoing, recurring pain in my testicle for 3 years before a doctor finally gave me a thorough exam and found my hernia. The hernia wasn't detectable from underneath, the standard turn your head and cough method of checking. It was only after a thorough exam of my lower abdomen that the hernia was found. the doctor actually said "A lot of times these aren't found because doctors just don't look!
Avatar n tn Hi, What you are referring to is known as Secondary testicular Ascent and it’s a known complication of inguinal herniotomy (hernia surgery). The small mobile prepubertal testis is either dislocated from its normal scrotal position or due to the tethering by the scar tissue prevents its normal scrotal descent. The incidence of this complication is from 1-3%. Actually, in some cases, the testis may already lying high in the scrotum and may be concealed by the hernia.
