Avatar f tn my hernia surgery. I went in for minor surgery on one hernia; ended up a three-hour procedure involving two more very large hernias; the surgeon told me that there was a section of bowel lying outside the ab wall; apparently this had been going on for some time. Pre-existing conditions: a replaced mechanical aortic heart valve, have had three other bowel obstruction surgeries, among numerous other minor things. Have been treated for depression in the past.........I am a 72-year old female.

Avatar f tn Hi , I had a hiatus hernia for 10 years and am in recovery from a repair ( key hole surgery ) to the hernia. Prior to the surgery I suffered with heart burn, waking up coughing acid reflux vomit, pain in my stomach ( over the diaphragm), bloating to the stage where I looked like I was 7 months pregnant, weight gain, wind and gave up alcohol, spicy foods and chocolate due to acid reflux.
Avatar n tn I only experienced reflux during pregnancies, but recently had a violent bout of vomiting and have had reflux symptoms ever since then. MY only thought must be hiatal hernia ? Why is surgical repair of a hiatal hernia so last resort. Isn't there anyway that i could have my diaphragm tightened but not do the whole fundoplication thing? Also, is the LES being weakened the longer it sits in the wrong place.
Avatar n tn This can be repaired through surgery. Recovery time varies depending on the size of the hernia, the technique used, age and presence of underlying medical condition. However, a hernia can recur up to several years after repair. I hope this helps. Avatar f tn Hi , I had a hiatus hernia ( sliding) and am in recovery (4th month) after key hole surgery for repair to the hernia. I had the hiatus hernia for the 10 years and suffered all of your mentioned symptoms. It got to the point where I was getting hard stomach pains ( felt like I was punched in the stomach) and felt like I wanted to vomit. I took over my life and I was afraid of eating so many foods.
Avatar f tn This was my second surgery (first... removal of ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids). My recent surgery was also to repair a small hernia and removing bowel adheshions (scar tissue). Both are believed to be a result of my first surgery - possibly returning to work and daily activity too soon. I have 2 questions? First, what is a recommend timeframe to resume daily activities (I.e.driving,etc.). My tentative return tobwork dare isn't until July. And...

Avatar m tn ve had a hydrocele surgery at the age of six, left side inguinal hernia surgery at the age of 10, and a right side inguinal hernia surgery at the age of 24. My right testicle have been attached closer to my body since my hydrocele surgery and I can clearly remember how uncomfortable it felt to have such an abnormal position of your testicle. After 20 years, I still feel some discomforting pains (on my right testicle) when exercising.
1257808 tn?1322762215 I had an inguinal hernia. Got out of surgery around 14 days ago. I had an open mesh repair. I have documented my surgery and recovery here: www.myhernia.co.
Avatar f tn Reason for this is due to me having gallstones for so many years, surgeon believes it may be too diseased to take out laparoscopy method. What is the recovery time for this major surgery, cutting my body half way around from front to back? What can I expect after surgery? I also have two hernias to be removed while under anesthesia for gallbladder removal. I am scared and middle aged. Does anyone know how long the recovery time would be for all of this combined?
Avatar f tn I was diagnoised in 1997 w/ breast cancer, bilateral masectomy/saline implants. I've had to have several implant replaced over the years along w/ surgeon dissatisfaction, so I was ref. to new surgeon & suggested tram surgery.
478868 tn?1209031705 I thought it was all due to the surgery. Guess not, she thinks I have an incisional hernia. I see my surgeon Thursday for further evaluation. Has anyone ever had this? I thought after the hysterectomy, removal of the malignant tumor, I was well on the road to recovery. What am I in for now?
Avatar m tn I am scheduled to get an open surgery for an umbilical hernia on the 25th. The surgeon specializes weight loss lap band surgeries. I found a highly regarded hernia specialist that I could use but may be a longer wait. Is it worth it?
Avatar f tn Hi, 6 years ago i had my 2nd child and developed an umbilical hernia, which i had surgery for the repair. I now have had a 3rd baby - 5 months now- and have the umbilical hernia has returned.
2042217 tn?1336527852 You may leave the same day but if the hernia was large you may be asked to stay in hospital for aday. After surgery your vital parameters will be monitored and depending on the parameters you will be discharged. Once back home avoid lifting or strenuous exercise for at least the first two weeks, light exercise like walking can be done. The recovery time varies person to person and depends on your general health condition and extent of hernia.
Avatar f tn Having hiatal hernia (Nissen) surgery in a few days. My questions are : How soon would it be safe to climb stairs? When can I resume exercising? Some say that sit ups would strengthen the abdomen. Is that true? if so when should I start that? Reading the blog, most people are complaining about not being able to eat. Is this a normal? Would it be better to do a liquid diet for awhile? If so, How long should it be?
Avatar m tn Come to find out, I did have a ingual (SP?) hernia. Surgery/recovery was a breeze. It definately helped get rid of that pain. Now if I could only get rid of the adbominal pain.
1666825 tn?1303252659 There is a manual manipulation of the hiatal hernia that may help to see if it is the hernia...at least b4 u consider surgery.....check around ur area for a chiropractor that specializes in this....but do have ur heart checked first to be sure there is nothing else going on, and that ur GI agrees.
440989 tn?1281001534 It is not getting worse. I will be seeing the Dr. this week and will let him know. This surgery and recovery is at the least challenging. Hiatal Hernia repair is not to be taken lightly by those contemplating having it.
Avatar m tn After I had hernia surgery Surrey I was told not to do anything that could prevent by recovery.
Avatar f tn I am sorry to hear you have a hernia but at least you finally have answers to the pain you've been experiencing. I have not had a hernia (or don't think that is the cause of my occasional twinges of pain/discomfort) so cannot answer any questions about surgery. Hope all goes well!
Avatar m tn My question is what will the recovery be like. I looked up the recovery for a gallbladder surgery and recovery for hiatal hernia repair and I think I am in for a lot of pain and weight loss. the weight loss I can take. But the pain I am not looking forward to. I will be home during the day by myself. Would I be able to take care of myself and what will the recovery be like. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
454221 tn?1259445739 I'm almost 34 y/o. Have 4 kids. After the 4th pregnancy I now have an umbilical hernia that I would like to repair, but I might also need an abdominoplasty as well. Has anyone had an abdominoplasty/tummy tuck? Would like to know how the recovery part of it was afterwards. How much pain? Very nervous to do this. I'm not a fan of going under the knife. Want to know the risk involved? I've been told that abdominoplasty is one of the high risk surgeries for blood clots.
Avatar f tn How old is the child and has the hernia increased in size.? Has the pediatrician of the child suggested surgery to you .?.
