I have to ask how bad is ur GERD u feel the need to have this surgery?I have a hiatal hernia and just wondered at what point people seek this option.

Hi My sister has just had surgery for a hiatus hernia (360 degree wrap) but is very distressed as no-one (even the hospital) seems to be able to tell her about an aftercare. i.e Diet, what she should be eating after however many days and what to expect etc. When will she be able to do normal things etc.. Can anyone help please,.....

This can be repaired through surgery. Recovery time varies depending on the size of the hernia, the technique used, age and presence of underlying medical condition. This was my second surgery (first... removal of ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids). My recent surgery was also to repair a small hernia and removing bowel adheshions (scar tissue). Both are believed to be a result of my first surgery - possibly returning to work and daily activity too soon. I have 2 questions? I am having surgery to repair a Hiatal Hernia. Has anyone had this done recently? What can I expect? Is it in and out surgery, how long were you out of work, what could you eat, etc.?

I have an epigastric hernia so I have surgery and fix it right? Well, my surgery is scheduled for THIS FRIDAY (two days from today) and now I am reading all of the forums and all of the bad news from patients that are sorry they went through with the surgery. ARE THERE ANY GOOD AFTER SURGERY REPORTS OUT THERE? I don't know if I will make an already bad situation worse or if there is hope for me. Please help. Thanks so much!

I was diagnoised in 1997 w/ breast cancer, bilateral masectomy/saline implants. I've had to have several implant replaced over the years along w/ surgeon dissatisfaction, so I was ref. to new surgeon & suggested tram surgery.

I thought it was all due to the surgery. Guess not, she thinks I have an incisional hernia. I see my surgeon Thursday for further evaluation. Has anyone ever had this? I thought after the hysterectomy, removal of the malignant tumor, I was well on the road to recovery. What am I in for now?

its a defect in the abdominal wall that usually holds back whats inside (could be intestines, fat, or other internal organs) the hole may become bigger letting more out, but it also runs the risk that something (say intestines) can push out and have the blood supply to them cut off which then becomes serious(and needs surgery ASAP)... but some people may have a hernia their whole entire lives and live with them with no complications...

I am scheduled to get an open surgery for an umbilical hernia on the 25th. The surgeon specializes weight loss lap band surgeries. I found a highly regarded hernia specialist that I could use but may be a longer wait. Is it worth it?

Once back home avoid lifting or strenuous exercise for at least the first two weeks, light exercise like walking can be done. It is not getting worse. I will be seeing the Dr. this week and will let him know. This surgery and recovery is at the least challenging. Hiatal Hernia repair is not to be taken lightly by those contemplating having it.

My question is what will the recovery be like. I looked up the recovery for a gallbladder surgery and recovery for hiatal hernia repair and I think I am in for a lot of pain and weight loss. the weight loss I can take. But the pain I am not looking forward to. I will be home during the day by myself. Would I be able to take care of myself and what will the recovery be like. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I'm almost 34 y/o. Have 4 kids. After the 4th pregnancy I now have an umbilical hernia that I would like to repair, but I might also need an abdominoplasty as well. Has anyone had an abdominoplasty/tummy tuck? Would like to know how the recovery part of it was afterwards. How much pain? Very nervous to do this. I'm not a fan of going under the knife. Want to know the risk involved? I've been told that abdominoplasty is one of the high risk surgeries for blood clots.

so i had the ultrasound and the cyst is not major thank god and now I just have to get surgery to take out hernia and close the hole so every thing is great and I will be just fine

My doctor suggested that I have the rectocele surgery repair. I'm hesitating because I've heard horror stories about the recovery and pain afterwards (from other posting sites and my Mom as well who had the surgery 15 years ago).
