hernia-surgery

Avatar f tn This was my second surgery (first... removal of ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids). My recent surgery was also to repair a small hernia and removing bowel adheshions (scar tissue). Both are believed to be a result of my first surgery - possibly returning to work and daily activity too soon. I have 2 questions? First, what is a recommend timeframe to resume daily activities (I.e.driving,etc.). My tentative return tobwork dare isn't until July. And...
478868 tn?1209031705 I thought it was all due to the surgery. Guess not, she thinks I have an incisional hernia. I see my surgeon Thursday for further evaluation. Has anyone ever had this? I thought after the hysterectomy, removal of the malignant tumor, I was well on the road to recovery. What am I in for now?
Avatar n tn I had two in 2009 with the small five incisions and one open in 2010 with open large incision. All three have failed and now I have to have a gastric bypass for my gerd and reflux as I am so scarred and cut inside. Hope yours went well. How are you feeling and is all your gerd reflux gone?
Avatar f tn Has anyone gone through an incisional hernia from a laparotomy? If a small one forms, does it progress fairly rapidly to a full-blown one with a noticeable bulge produced? Or can small, visibly undetectable ones maybe go away on their own? Before my surgery to remove my two ovarian cysts, my doc said that with my "bikini cut" (horizontal) incision, it reduces the chances of an incisional hernia greatly, compared to an up-and-down vertical incision.
Avatar n tn I had open heart surgery 8 months ago - 3 bypass. Where my incision is on my chest, I have like a pocket of liquid. the size is about 1'' round and its swell out about 3/8'. Is this bad? What's the cause of this? What needs to be done? I am in some discomfort.
1262699 tn?1277854959 I had a c section on the 26th of April. Have had bad pain since. Was put back in the hospital 2 1/2 weeks after c section. That infection resolved itself, but now very bad pain right above my incision. The Dr is doing laparoscopic surgery next week, don't know how I can go another week with this pain, but she thinks that it is more of a nerve stuck. She said that she could not do both surgeries at the same time.
2042217 tn?1336527852 You may leave the same day but if the hernia was large you may be asked to stay in hospital for aday. After surgery your vital parameters will be monitored and depending on the parameters you will be discharged. Once back home avoid lifting or strenuous exercise for at least the first two weeks, light exercise like walking can be done. The recovery time varies person to person and depends on your general health condition and extent of hernia.
415684 tn?1257329318 My mother had a mesh put during her initial debulking surgery and not due to a hernia problem. She developed a nodule at the site from which they drained fluid to diagnose her OVC. She is now 4 months post op but still feels lot of stretch internally at the mesh site. Other than that she has had no problems. She was even able to take IP chemo with this mesh inside.
438877 tn?1224357489 Does anyone know if this could the a hernia, or just a normal occurence of using an old scar? the actual incision made for the laparoscopy is only about 5 mm long.
Avatar f tn came from the fact that it was supposed to be repair of one small hernia, and turned out to be two more very large ones; a 1-1/2 hour surgery turned into three hours, and what should have been outpatient stretched into five days, with an eight-inch incision and a drain tube to be worn home. And, I am two years older than my last bowel obstruction surgery. Many years ago I was treated for borderline personality disorder with clinical depression, which I had probably had most of my life.
Avatar n tn Despite that this is a “smallsurgery, it is a surgery nonetheless. In general, the recommendation is to take it easy with lifting and other strenuous movement of the affected arm. Swelling and bruising are not uncommon and may take time to resolve. It can take a bit of time to feel “normal.” Scar tissue and other healing takes time. It may be worth a discussion with your surgeon, though, to be sure he/she is happy with your progress.
Avatar f tn I had hernia surgery 7 1/2 wks ago cannot believe the pain i have had. It was a spagelian hernia and I am a female. After surgery my incision & other private parts swelled up the size of a cantelope and turned black & blue , so pain full couldn't walk. bruising and swollen from upper thighs to belly button and around both sides. Said it's a hematoma. Used mesh but that's all I really know.
Avatar m tn An incisional hernia can occur years after a surgery, including a laparoscopic procedure. I have a hernia which has developed at the site where I had a procedure some time ago. The weakness in the abdominal wall is created by the incision, even a perfectly healed one. Then the wall is strained through excercise, heavy lifting and even weight gain causing the weaker portion of the abdominal wall to tear (herniate).
1666825 tn?1303252659 There is a manual manipulation of the hiatal hernia that may help to see if it is the hernia...at least b4 u consider surgery.....check around ur area for a chiropractor that specializes in this....but do have ur heart checked first to be sure there is nothing else going on, and that ur GI agrees.
Avatar n tn If there are complications, such as the presence of an inguinal hernia, an incision is made in the groin area. This approach allows the doctor to repair the hernia or other complicating factors at the same time as correcting the hydrocele. Some surgeons use a minimally invasive laparoscopic approach to repair a hydrocele.
Avatar n tn s very helpful.. I just want to ask you how long was your incision and how long was your recovery.. thanks again and God Bless!
Avatar f tn Hi. I think the question of recovery from the surgery is best answered by the doctor who is treating you, since he can actually examine you and tell you what else you need to do to hasten your recovery. In general, the speed of recovery would depend on how strong the patient's body is prior to the surgery, and the presence of any other chronic illnesses (e.g. heart disease, diabetes, COPD) which may hamper full recovery.
Avatar m tn I have had 7 abdominal surgeries. Gastric bypass 2012, lap chole 2013, exploratory lap 2014, panniculectomy 2015, ventral hernia repair 2015, mesh removal from hernia repair with exp lap 2016, and recently open epigastric incisional hernia repair 2/21/2017. I am one month post op from recent surgery. Immediately upon opening my eyes from surgery I knew something was different. I had extreme pain, more pain then I've had with any surgery I've had.
Avatar f tn ( they are going to do it again in two weeks. I called them they said he didn't cry there at all just barked, which he does bc he has anxiety away from me. :( but now all he is doing is running in circles trying to get at the incission and crying.
Avatar f tn I had a Lap done one week ago. One incision at the belly button, one to the lower left. Doctor removed two small areas of endometrial tissue. Doctor's been very unhelpful regarding exercise post surgery, says it'll take four weeks to recover fully and if I want a hernia before then that's my problem--that's almost a quote. I am a fit 38-year old who has to exercise regularly to maintain pain in my SI joint and femur patella syndrome in my knees.
Avatar n tn I had an open repair of inguinal hernia. Incision is approximately 4 inches long. How long will I have pain and tenderness with this? I have no fever, and have already had followup with the surgeon with no return scheduled.
Avatar f tn He did however call me and inform me to have the incision checked to insure there is no infection/hernia. The doctor was quick and to the point. He ad be stand up and checked the incision....said it was scar tissue only...no need for ultrasound and he didn't do surgery so was unsure why I was having side pain. He aso kept saying...u had you left ovary removed but the incision is on your right......Ya He had a hard time grasping it. At lease I know it is not infected......
329165 tn?1515471990 Hi Flycaster! I was shocked to learn about your OHS and then the car accident! Please look after yourself. Yes, we moved from South-African to Australia, 3 months ago. We live in Roxby Downs and the closest City is Adelaide (about 600km from here) so it is a bit of a mission to get to Docs, etc. But I love Australia and I love living in Roxby. Would not trade it for anywhere else. Tell me: the keyholes - is it in the same area as your sternum-incision?
Avatar f tn My Gynecologist thinks I have a hernia. I have a CT scheduled for Friday and a follow up on Tuesday to discuss results and the plan. It's looking like, either way, I'm having another surgery. If it's not a hernia and nothing else alarming shows up, they will assume it's scar tissue and likely to a laparscopy to look for and break up scar tissue/adhesions. Anyone out there have a hernia after surgery?
18413069 tn?1466881965 ) My surgery was more extensive than just having a hysterectomy and cysts removal because they also did a hernia repair. My incision if roughly a foot long. Hubby said he wants to count the staples before they take them out. He's guessing there is around 40! As painful as it may be to get out of bed and walk, that is what it will take to keep your body from getting as stiff! One week post-op I talked hubby into taking me out to eat locally.
Avatar f tn t have an incisional hernia. Another possibility is a simple collection of a small amount of blood in the area. That happened to me after gb surgery (in the naval incision), and thankfully my doctor noticed it and warned me it might open up. It did. I was in the shower and all at once blood seemed to be everywhere! Had the doc not told me what to expect, I would have freaked. It only took a few minutes to finish draining and all was well after that.
Avatar n tn Second being phacoemulsification in which insertion, through a small incision on the eye, of a needle with a small device on its end that produces sound waves. Sound waves delivered through this needle break up the lens, which is then sucked out through the needle. This results in results in smaller incision but more exepnsive and more specilaized training. does one or the other produce better results? that is, will one have better sucess rate, less conplications, quicker recovery/healing?
