Avatar m tn My question is what will the recovery be like. I looked up the recovery for a gallbladder surgery and recovery for hiatal hernia repair and I think I am in for a lot of pain and weight loss. the weight loss I can take. But the pain I am not looking forward to. I will be home during the day by myself. Would I be able to take care of myself and what will the recovery be like. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

2042217 tn?1336527852 You may leave the same day but if the hernia was large you may be asked to stay in hospital for aday. After surgery your vital parameters will be monitored and depending on the parameters you will be discharged. Once back home avoid lifting or strenuous exercise for at least the first two weeks, light exercise like walking can be done. The recovery time varies person to person and depends on your general health condition and extent of hernia.
Avatar f tn I am having surgery to repair a Hiatal Hernia. Has anyone had this done recently? What can I expect? Is it in and out surgery, how long were you out of work, what could you eat, etc.?
Avatar m tn m taking my sibling to the hospital in a few weeks for a hernia operation. They said that the hospital said that I must stay at the hospital until after their surgery is complete. I've never heard of this policy before, I thought maybe my sibling is saying this because they have severe anxiety at times. Before I question them about it, I wanted to ask if anyone has ever heard of such a policy? Thank you for any feedback.
Avatar n tn Hi My sister has just had surgery for a hiatus hernia (360 degree wrap) but is very distressed as no-one (even the hospital) seems to be able to tell her about an aftercare. i.e Diet, what she should be eating after however many days and what to expect etc. When will she be able to do normal things etc.. Can anyone help please,.....
478868 tn?1209031705 Alot of times if it is bothersome or large enough, they will take you back to surgery, may place some mesh against the muscle to reinforce it and it can be day surgery. Most can do it laparoscopically, so less recovery time in the hospital. My husband developed 3 hernias along his incision lines after a liver transplant and the last thing he wanted to do was go back into the hospital for more surgery. Good luck at the doctors tomorrow. I will pray for good news.
Avatar m tn the surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure without hospital stay depending on recovery time and its sorta cheap depending on what you would call cheap, i had mine done overseas 18 years ago and i stayed in the hospital for two days because i had a tonsil infection (unrelated to the surgery) all for around $1200, nowadays a good urologist with laparoscopic surgery will get it done as an outpatient procedure and you'll be good to go work the same week and play sports within a month..
Avatar f tn Scared crap less and worried about my 2 yr old who has never been away from me. For those of u who have had the surgery how long were u in the hospital?? N was the pain tolerable when u woke up ?? Like I said first surgery ever and never been put to sleep .
Avatar n tn t know if all hernias are the same or not but my husband has an umbilical hernia and the surgery for that is a day surgery. Cysts done via horizontal cut are a 3 - 5 day hospital stay and much more involved.
Avatar m tn its not that expensive depending on where you live, and if you want to get back to your regular life/sport as soon as possible i suggest doing a laparoscopic surgery, takes one day stay in the hospital or even as an outpatient procedure depending on recovery, and within two to three weeks you'll be back in the game...
Avatar f tn Hi , I had a hiatus hernia ( sliding) and am in recovery (4th month) after key hole surgery for repair to the hernia. I had the hiatus hernia for the 10 years and suffered all of your mentioned symptoms. It got to the point where I was getting hard stomach pains ( felt like I was punched in the stomach) and felt like I wanted to vomit. I took over my life and I was afraid of eating so many foods.
Avatar n tn 4. How long will recovery take for surgery? Will he be limited in his activities. How about his quality of life during recovery from surgery? 5. Right now, my dad has to limit the amout of food he eats, and the type of foods, i.e. must stay away from acidic foods. After surgery, can he eat anything he wants, to his hearts content? Please let us know if there are other things we should research.
Avatar f tn My surgeon tells me he will insert a tube throught the stomach to hold it in place after my hiatal hernia surgery. Is this normal and how will it be removed? He said it would stay in about 2 wks. He also said it would not be a feeding tube, just something to hold the stomach in place. Anyone ever had this done?
1666825 tn?1303252659 The advantages of incisionless surgery over conventional laparoscopic or open GERD surgery include shorter hospital stay, reduced discomfort, shortened recovery, no visible scars, and typically higher satisfaction. I have not had ne surgery for my hiatial hernia so I can not speak first hand on the topic, only copy info I have read. Wish I knew more and had a bit more to offer, sorry.
Avatar f tn I am schedule for surgery 10/28...what should I take to the hospital? and is there anything that will make my stay and/or recovery at home smoother that I should get? I'm trying to be as prepared as possible. Thanks!
Avatar f tn t know what to expect. I have never had any type of surgery and I am nervous about recovery. I only have a limited number of days I can take off of work, how long is recovery? Is there any genetic link?
1330312 tn?1275341513 i was just wondering if anyone had any idea how long it is before you feel back to normal im on my second week of recovery i had surgery last mon 11th and i feel really rubbish this week .
1150700 tn?1288115608 Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum. We do have a thread to list your surgery date if you would like a Prayer thread started for you.....I will bump it up so you can find it should you decide to add your date. For me wearing over sized night shirts with a deep V was the easiest to get on and was comfortable.... How long recovery is will depend on you , how you tolerate pain and how well you follow post op recovery protocol..... It is very important to listen to your body....
Avatar f tn Hi , I had a hiatus hernia for 10 years and am in recovery from a repair ( key hole surgery ) to the hernia. Prior to the surgery I suffered with heart burn, waking up coughing acid reflux vomit, pain in my stomach ( over the diaphragm), bloating to the stage where I looked like I was 7 months pregnant, weight gain, wind and gave up alcohol, spicy foods and chocolate due to acid reflux.
Avatar n tn My husband had the surgery many years ago and he did just fine. You will have to take it easy for awhile though. Depending on how extensive the hernia is, I would'nt be too surprised if they do the surgery out patient. Of course you'll receive pains meds and the Dr will send you home with a script for pain meds.
Avatar f tn This was my second surgery (first... removal of ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids). My recent surgery was also to repair a small hernia and removing bowel adheshions (scar tissue). Both are believed to be a result of my first surgery - possibly returning to work and daily activity too soon. I have 2 questions? First, what is a recommend timeframe to resume daily activities (I.e.driving,etc.). My tentative return tobwork dare isn't until July. And...
329165 tn?1515471990 I was advised the keyhole procedure would mean a two to three day hospital stay, and an open procedure would mean a stay of about a week. I'm guessing that driving restrictions would be like our open heart surgeries, probably about a month to six weeks. I know you have just moved to a new Continent, so suspect you are worried about getting the kids from here to there, etc.
Avatar f tn You definitely need to postpone the trip. You will likely be in the hospital 2-5 days and your recovery will be 6-8 weeks. You doctor will NOT ok you to go on such a trip, much less ride any rides. If you plan on just watching, he may agree, but I doubt it. You are going to be in pain for at least 2-3 weeks. You are most likely not going to feel like doing much but sitting on the couch. Please reconsider your trip. You want to be able to enjoy your time at Disney.
