Avatar n tn Hi My sister has just had surgery for a hiatus hernia (360 degree wrap) but is very distressed as no-one (even the hospital) seems to be able to tell her about an aftercare. i.e Diet, what she should be eating after however many days and what to expect etc. When will she be able to do normal things etc.. Can anyone help please,.....
Avatar m tn I am scheduled to get an open surgery for an umbilical hernia on the 25th. The surgeon specializes weight loss lap band surgeries. I found a highly regarded hernia specialist that I could use but may be a longer wait. Is it worth it?
Avatar n tn Hi, It depends on how large the hernia is. I had one repaired with mesh in 2006. Now I can still feel a hard tissue at the sight where the hernia was. I can also feel something if I sleep on my right side, as well as when I sneeze or cough. There is no bulging like there was before, but things do not feel like it did prior to the hernia surgery. Mine was an incarcerated hernia and I was in hospital for about 4 days.
Avatar f tn m similar to megmeg where I had a section then umbilical hernia surgery then epigastric hernia surgery then my appendix removed so I definitely have numb spots on my skin but at about 24 weeks I started feeling real kicks and rolls but at 20 weeks its was weaker and very random...
Avatar f tn This was my second surgery (first... removal of ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids). My recent surgery was also to repair a small hernia and removing bowel adheshions (scar tissue). Both are believed to be a result of my first surgery - possibly returning to work and daily activity too soon. I have 2 questions? First, what is a recommend timeframe to resume daily activities (I.e.driving,etc.). My tentative return tobwork dare isn't until July. And...
Avatar f tn Hey has anyone had a robotic Hernia surgery done before? I have two inguinal hernias and I wanted to know if the recovery time is quicker than a traditional laparoscopic? Thanks!

Avatar f tn I am having surgery to repair a Hiatal Hernia. Has anyone had this done recently? What can I expect? Is it in and out surgery, how long were you out of work, what could you eat, etc.?
1257808 tn?1322762215 I had an inguinal hernia. Got out of surgery around 14 days ago. I had an open mesh repair. I have documented my surgery and recovery here: www.myhernia.co.
Avatar f tn I was diagnoised in 1997 w/ breast cancer, bilateral masectomy/saline implants. I've had to have several implant replaced over the years along w/ surgeon dissatisfaction, so I was ref. to new surgeon & suggested tram surgery.
Avatar f tn Hi. I think the question of recovery from the surgery is best answered by the doctor who is treating you, since he can actually examine you and tell you what else you need to do to hasten your recovery. In general, the speed of recovery would depend on how strong the patient's body is prior to the surgery, and the presence of any other chronic illnesses (e.g. heart disease, diabetes, COPD) which may hamper full recovery.
478868 tn?1209031705 I thought it was all due to the surgery. Guess not, she thinks I have an incisional hernia. I see my surgeon Thursday for further evaluation. Has anyone ever had this? I thought after the hysterectomy, removal of the malignant tumor, I was well on the road to recovery. What am I in for now?
Avatar f tn Hi, 6 years ago i had my 2nd child and developed an umbilical hernia, which i had surgery for the repair. I now have had a 3rd baby - 5 months now- and have the umbilical hernia has returned.
2042217 tn?1336527852 You may leave the same day but if the hernia was large you may be asked to stay in hospital for aday. After surgery your vital parameters will be monitored and depending on the parameters you will be discharged. Once back home avoid lifting or strenuous exercise for at least the first two weeks, light exercise like walking can be done. The recovery time varies person to person and depends on your general health condition and extent of hernia.
Avatar m tn I would suggest avoiding abdominal exercises that increase the tension around the region of hernia repair for sometime. For groin hernia/ repair walking, swimming, pushups are considered the best exercises. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn My question is what will the recovery be like. I looked up the recovery for a gallbladder surgery and recovery for hiatal hernia repair and I think I am in for a lot of pain and weight loss. the weight loss I can take. But the pain I am not looking forward to. I will be home during the day by myself. Would I be able to take care of myself and what will the recovery be like. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
454221 tn?1259445739 Thanks so much for responding. I have 4 kids and I think I fear the most is dying after the surgery. I don't want take a risk that could possible leave my kids without a mother. Might be silly worrying about it. I'm suppose to see another plastic surgeon on May 4th and I will ask if they use the same procedures to prevent blood clots. Is it common for 34 y/o to have blood clots after this surgery?
Avatar f tn Get you and can see you would be concerned ,it may have been that she was still waking up I think that you have to ask your pediatrician whether there may be any problems .If they told you they had to close the hernia then you couldn't have done the wrong thing in having the surgery, it is always done for the supra umbilical hernia which doesn't close by itself...
Avatar f tn I am sorry to hear you have a hernia but at least you finally have answers to the pain you've been experiencing. I have not had a hernia (or don't think that is the cause of my occasional twinges of pain/discomfort) so cannot answer any questions about surgery. Hope all goes well!
440989 tn?1281001534 It is not getting worse. I will be seeing the Dr. this week and will let him know. This surgery and recovery is at the least challenging. Hiatal Hernia repair is not to be taken lightly by those contemplating having it.
341655 tn?1240368839 Yes. The surgery for a hiatal hernia is the Nissen Fundaplication, where a portion of the fundus is wrapped around the esophagus in the area of the lower esophageal sphincter. As for the type, 90% of all hiatal hernias are sliding hernias, not paraesophageal, so it's probably a sliding hiatal hernia that you have.
Avatar n tn I had a seroma after surgery for a hernia in Sept of 2008. It is now Feb of 2010 and there is still some fluid. Dr.'s just say. OH well gotta live with it. Very disappointing.
415684 tn?1257329318 But that is mainly due to the fact that I am on non-stop chemo, and he wants me to keep my energy for the chemo insted of surgery recovery. Also he does not want me off of chemo for that long if we can help it. I do know of a few gals that have had hernia repair and done just fine. Which ever way you decided to go, I wish you luck.
Avatar f tn my hernia surgery. I went in for minor surgery on one hernia; ended up a three-hour procedure involving two more very large hernias; the surgeon told me that there was a section of bowel lying outside the ab wall; apparently this had been going on for some time. Pre-existing conditions: a replaced mechanical aortic heart valve, have had three other bowel obstruction surgeries, among numerous other minor things. Have been treated for depression in the past.........I am a 72-year old female.
