hernia-surgery

Avatar m tn had hernia surgery in march ,hurt more now than before surgery, what the hell is going on?
Avatar f tn They are not only at an increased risk for complications from any surgery (particularly from infection) but there is little point in trying to repair a hernia while a person still has ascites. Beside the risks of the surgery itself it is very likely to hernia recur any way. The point is to treat the cause of the hernia. The person’s advanced, life-threatening cirrhosis. Does a person have to wait until strangulation occurs and risks are higher?
Avatar f tn I had cataract surgery in Dec. ' 07 and Jan. ' 08. My eyes seem to have healed properly, and my vision is tremendously improved. (The lenses had some correction built into them.) Now that I'm post post-operative, as you might say, is there anything special I should be doing to protect my eyes and the new lenses? Do I have "regular eyes" now? Thanks!
Avatar n tn My mom is 71 and will undergo a colon resection. I am extremely concern about waht to expect during post operative care. Please help! This discussion is related to Post Op Care for Colon Surgery Patient.
Avatar n tn Why does my cataract surgery card read 14.0 diopters, but my operative report reads 14.2 diopters?
Avatar f tn I wanted to thank everyone for their prayers for my surgery on July 16th. I did not post after surgery because I have been struggling with my recovery. Like misfit's daughter I had the same problems after surgery- pain in my right shoulder and upper part of my right chest. The doctors looked for a clot but did not find one. I was told that my my spinal stenosis in c5-8 was worse than thought before surgery and if known they would have recommended surgery on this before the decompression.
Avatar n tn There is about one tenth risk of recurrent disc herniation associated with microdiscectomies. The post operative care includes NSAIDs, and vicodin. You must undergo a stretching program to prevent tethering of nerve root by scar tissue. Back strengthening exercises should be started after initial healing has taken place. Early mobilization may help heal faster and walking postoperative is advised.
Avatar n tn t be sure from your post why you had colon surgery - for cancer or not - and did you end up having the ostomy? I had colon surgery and an ileostomy (temporary). The first surgery followed 8 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation. They gave me a lot of dilaudid (hydromorphone) for pain, both during chemo and at the time of surgery. In the weeks after surgery I was a mess, dealing with the bag, more chemotherapy, and healing from the previous treatment and surgery.
Avatar f tn While it is normal to have some post-operative discomfort related to the surgical procedure, any symptoms that have persisted this long or are new/worsening would best be served with a physical examination by a physician.
Avatar m tn glaucoma filtration surgery is high risk surgery. Risks include under and over filtration. However once the situation has stabilized and the tissues heal (say 4-8 weeks) the likelihood of these problems occuring in the future is very small.
Avatar f tn My Dad was diagnosed with Colon Cancer/Stage II at age 81. After a colonoscopy, they found a large cancerous mass that needed removed asap, so he was in surgery two weeks later. It will be one year, June 18th since his surgery and considering some post surgery complications due to blood loss and other health issues, I can only say that he's had a long recovery compared to most others.
Avatar f tn This may be a useless factoid, or it might help someone: postoperative ileus is the condition of the stomach motility after surgery. Mine is taking twice as long to return, even for digestive system surgery. I wasn't really too concerned, as my stomach was shutting down before surgery; it's more of a nuisance so far, but of course I worry about adequate nutrition.
Avatar n tn He is scheduled for a hernia repair (inguinal) outpatient surgery and is very anxious about a blood clot after surgery as he has had friends who have died from blood clots. Is there data available regarding this post-operative complication that would decrease his anxiety? He has been told to stop his Coumadin 5 days prior to the surgery and restart it after surgery.
Avatar f tn I am going to have open surgery (not laparoscopic) for repair of a hiatal hernia. Two years ago I had two critical levels for hemoglobin (3.5) and hematocrit, and needed a blood transfusion. After lots of tests, they never discovered any reason for the loss of blood. I had a lot of vomitting after eating, from the hiatal hernia. Presently, I often get severe chest pain from the hernia after eating even just a few bites of food.

Avatar n tn Two years after double hernia surgery, I am experiencing a burning pain similar to the pain I had prior to surgery, although more mild and intermittent. I have cut down on sit ups and other exercising, hoping that is the problem, although it hasn't helped(yet). Any suggestions?
454221 tn?1259445739 The risk of blood clots exits, but with an experienced surgeon, use of intermittent calf compression boots at surgery, relatively short operative time, and early ambulation, I have not seen this complication in over twenty years. Occasional seromas and minor wound healing issues are more common. Recovery time is usually about two weeks.
Avatar n tn I have discovered blood in the eye. What does this mean? All other post operative systoms have disappeared ( bubble, vision problems etc.
