Common Questions and Answers about Hernia surgery or not

hernia-surgery

Avatar m tn The last week I noticed a hard bulge behind and above my naval. What makes me question if it is a hernia or not is the fact that it is actually more prominent when I lay down? I have also been nauseous and my appetite isn’t as prominent. I don't want to go back to the Dr. for them to tell me nothing’s wrong again. Any ideas as to what is going on with me?
Avatar n tn My husband has had his for many years with no pain or tenderness. If the pain and soreness is new, then contact your doctor as this makes it a whole new ball game and may change his opinion on the surgery. Take care...
9405924 tn?1407809505 Went to all my doctor appointments today and last on the list was the general surgeon to consult about my growing hernia on the front of my stomach from a previous surgery. The doctor looked at me and went to the hall and started scheduling surgery! I'm 26 weeks and they want to fix the hernia! I tried to see if they could wait until my baby is a little more developed but he said every day is a risk for both of us with my intestines poking in the pocket of my abdominal wall. Still!
Avatar m tn My gut feeling,no I am absolutely certain about herpes zoster being the cause and the pain is of postherpetic neuralgia.I do not know about the presence of hernia but what I do know is that many a times this is mistaken for acute abdomen and operated too ie Zoster neuralgia.
Avatar f tn i took medication this afternoon and the pain has not gone away. what can or should i do?
354706 tn?1279470795 I have earlier posted in the forum about my mum's hernia 'bump' and my amxiety over the slowly rising CA-125. I am overwhelmed by all your good wishes and prayers. We went to see 2 doctors today. The first doctor think it is a normal hernia (also indicated in the previous CT scan)and have scheduled a surgery tomorrow. However, when the CT scan came back, the report stated that it may not be a hernia but they are not sure what it is except it is a 7 cm lump.
Avatar m tn Now having two missing would be totally devastating to the point where I was willing to wait now 23 years to see if the cyst or whatever is on my right and only testicle is cancer or not. Therefore, my question is: Since I was maybe foolish enough to wait 23 years since I developed this cyst like spot on my testicle, can pt be safe to say that if it is cancer, I would have known it by now and I can finally go to the urologist and have it looked at knowing it is not cancer?
Avatar n tn This approach allows the doctor to repair the hernia or other complicating factors at the same time as correcting the hydrocele. Some surgeons use a minimally invasive laparoscopic approach to repair a hydrocele. The operation is performed through a tiny incision using a lighted, camera-tipped, tube-like instrument (laparoscope) that allows the passage of instruments for the repair while displaying images of the procedure on a monitor in the operating room" www.surgeryencyclopedia.
1577722 tn?1310624684 t really feel it but that was typical of a c-section hernia. I am due to have surgery in March. After being told about my hernia I have been afraid to workout and gained 60 lbs. I would like to get fit again and do crunches and pretty much everything else. I'm scared that I will make the hernia worse. It doesn't stick out and only hurts when I lay a certain way.
Avatar m tn Is this a result of surgery, the accident or both. I don’t understand how a car accident can cause a hernia.
Avatar n tn I had a hernia operation years back it's not bad. The hernia was painful not the surgery.
1103592 tn?1274753561 Got the surgical consult - He said they would do surgery to fix it after delivery. If it becomes a problem or very painful they are comfortable delivering any time 36 week & on. Still going to try for a vag. delivery even though it may make it worse - he said as long as they can push the bowel back in (after delivery pushing) it's not an emergency (just NOT comfortable). It's a femoral hernia- so not the same as the abdomen ones (what people usually get with c-section scars).
Avatar f tn I am sorry to hear you have a hernia but at least you finally have answers to the pain you've been experiencing. I have not had a hernia (or don't think that is the cause of my occasional twinges of pain/discomfort) so cannot answer any questions about surgery. Hope all goes well!
Avatar f tn Hi, it depends on the extent of meshing that needs to be done. Laparoscopic hernia repair involves the placement of a mesh inside the abdomen without abdominal wall reconstruction. The mesh is fixed with sutures, staples, or tacks. The recurrence rate of the laparoscopic repair is reported as equal or less than that done with the open approach. So, discuss the possibilities with your doctor. Regards.
Avatar n tn Anyway my question is has anyone had a surgery other than the nissen fundo to repair the hernia. I am interested in having mine fixed but do NOT want my stomach wrapped around my esophagus. I'd like for a surgeon to just go in and pull the stomach to its proper position and sew up the hole in the diaphram essentially returning everything to its natural order.
Avatar n tn Hi Jenny, I have a hiatal hernia, but do not require surgery...I have known about my hernia since I was in my teens. I had a few flares that required meds...but, with proper diet and lifestyle I am able to keep it under control without meds. I just got my self off meds after being on them 2 yrs....I had flares from 3 diff surgeries....the meds they use to put u under alone can upset a balanced system.
Avatar n tn Does this mean surgery failed? is hernia back (now they are referring to this as a paraesophageal hernia) The doctors never told us herina might be back so I am wondering when I see x-ray report and it shos Pre-demonstartion of hernia, does that mean there is a new issue or they are seeing repaired hernia? is it typical that Nissen wrap would slip so soon after surgery?
341655 tn?1240368839 a half years after and I have been diagnosed now with a paraesophogeal hernia and a zenekers diverticulum. The first hernia was a sliding hernia and they are very common. Often not treated if no symptoms are present. I did have symptoms. As I do now. My paraesophogeal hernia is considered medium size. They are more dangerous as they can strangle the stomach and cut off the blood supply. It is important that you are under doctors care.
Avatar m tn ve had a hydrocele surgery at the age of six, left side inguinal hernia surgery at the age of 10, and a right side inguinal hernia surgery at the age of 24. My right testicle have been attached closer to my body since my hydrocele surgery and I can clearly remember how uncomfortable it felt to have such an abnormal position of your testicle. After 20 years, I still feel some discomforting pains (on my right testicle) when exercising.
